4th of July with the kids and friends to watch fireworks after dinner!
We visited Nerdvana on the 4th of July. Two adult couples in our group. We sat at the bar first and ordered drinks. Bartender was great! The video games at the bar were great and we made friends with a group sitting next to us.
Then we moved onto the patio for dinner prior to the fireworks. Worst waitress service in a long time. Food was fine - nothing memorable. But that would have been ok if the waitstaff had been better. She slammed my drink on the table when serving, forget to get us napkins and silverware (one of our party had to actually go get them despite asking twice). Forgot orders, rude, the list goes on.
I would go again - but can only recommend sitting at the bar for drinks and maybe an appetizer.
No booster seats or high chairs for kids. Should consider.
We actually never got served. The bartender was so backed up, after 15 minutes she never got to us. Yet people that were seated after us a few seats down got drinks right away... We used to think this place was cool. Guess not anymore.
We had a great time. We were celebrating a Birthday with 6 in our group. The booth was very cozy with 5 adults and one 8 year old but it was manageable. It wasn't as busy as we had expected but it might have been the Jimmy Buffett/ZZ Top concert going on the same night. We ate at a game table so it was equipped with 4 controllers ad multiple multiplayer games that were current and a lot of fun. The food was good, some better than others but no real big complaints. We will definitely be going back in the near future.
Food was good but coffee wasn't.. we expected the coffee shop to be a part of the restaurant so we were disappointed. I would also say it's not child friendly, no high chairs or booster seats which is rather silly being located in a Frisco. We probably won't go back.
Cool concept with the video games. Appetizers were really good. Beef Stroganoff was just ok. Service was so so.
Noisy! Uncomfortable seating -- Seated all half-moon booths first. Not easy to get in to or out of. Those seated at the ends had no idea what the others were saying. Not good for conversation. Fun drink and app menu. Disappointed in entree menu. Perhaps my expectations were to high.
Great place for date night
Food was subpar especially for the price. The Xbox One only had 5 medicore Xbox Live Arcade games but the kids still had fun.
Food was good, service a bit slow and disorganized. Games were fun to play, but for those that are not big gamers it would be good to have a quick start guide at the table. A little on the pricey side, but would recommend for a fun night out with couples, or family night with older teens or college kids home for the summer.
Fun place, food not as good as we had hoped
For a Saturday night the place was dead. It is way too big of a space and the food just okay. I don't think this place will make it that long.
This was great. Came here for mothers day with family. The food, service and outdoor dining was fantastic. Great value. Everyone in our party said this was a keeper. Thank you Nerdvana for a great dining experience.
Awesome food and great service! The whole family had a blast and truly enjoyed the entire experience!!!
So we thought we would try out a new place for brunch and felt optimistic about this restaurant from the online menu. The overall premise is a bit odd in my opinion, but we don't play video games. The service was horrible, food came out thirty minutes after we ordered and you could tell it had been sitting under a heat lamp for most of that time. Eggs benedict... cold and eggs were not runny, potatoes cold, scrambled eggs cold and rubbery. The only thing that was good was my husbands yogurt parfait and I am pretty sure no cooking was required for that. The thing that made us the most upset was the fact that you can't get a latte with breakfast -- they literally own own a coffee shop next door. We were told twice that to get a coffee drink you would have to walk over to the coffee shop to get one yourself. The reason they don't make high-margin coffee drinks in the restaurant is apparently due to storage....smh. After explaining to the waitress that it's just milk and coffee beans, she promptly scolded us and said "If it's that easy, you should just make it at home". Uh... we do...that's how we know. The two additional times she slapped the table and told us to have a nice day in a condescending tone, and being irritated that we asked her for salt and pepper for our eggs (which she slammed down as well) didn't help. To be honest, I am not sure how the food would be if it was warm, because we didn't eat anything. She did want to spend a lot of time telling us how much they are understaffed and how it was a bad managerial decision to only have two waitstaff working on Sunday for brunch. She's full of opinions...
Eastern brunch with family. We've been for dinner before but felt brunch was better. Loved the lavender mimosa and my husband ordered the Bloody Mary which was outstanding, albeit the most expensive item of the meal. The console booths are great, kids get to play video games. Eggs Benedict, French toast, traditional egg dishes, etc. Love having the place nearby.
Although our waiter was attentive, he missed on some of the small details such as straws for the children's drinks; didn't ask how we wanted a burger cooked (came to the table quite raw). We were there for Easter brunch. My husband did not care for the potatoes, as stated earlier, my son's burger was raw and my daughter-in-law's steak benedict meat was not great. I had the crabcake benedict and it was quite good.
It was some of the little things I thought were missing, such as a simple ranch dressing. Not sure if I would go back.
LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! From the greeting to the exit... the food was amazing highly suggest the potato wedges and the cheesecake!!! Oh and our service was phenomenal thank you Justin!!!! Plus He gave us great insight on the menu; what his favorites were and what we may like!! We will be back!!!
I took my husband here for his birthday thinking it would be fun to play games while eating dinner. WRONG! First of all, I thought, because I read it in a review, that they had video games and board games. WRONG! They only have a small number of video game consoles and no board games. We were a party of 7 so we were initially sat in the far back corner of the empty restaurant (there was only one other party in the place). This table had no games, which is the only reason I chose this restaurant, so they had to separate us into two tables so we could play games. We got an X-Box that had only 3 lame games on it. Very disappointing.
The food was OK but definitely not worth the price they charge for it.
The drinks are over priced as well.
The service wasn't anything spectacular either.
The place has the potential fun and unique restaurant but is far from there. We will not be returning.
Service was very low on the attentiveness scale...both at the bar and the table and waiting for our table. They were not busy and the hostess even told us they were slow. The entire staff seemed to be more self involved in their own personal lives as opposed to the task at hand...which is service to the customer. Won't be going back.
Me and my gamer husband went here and had a great time. Every booth has a gaming system...even the bar. Amazing drink menu and the food was incredible. Definitely will be back for more!!
Our server went on about the weather, his car, and his life for approximately a minute (felt like 5)before offering me a beverage. He was slow with service. The food came in a reasonable time, but extras we needed such as extra sauce, refills, etc.
The food was great! We both got the Game Over and enjoyed that the meat was cooked perfect and the dish was seasoned well. The rest of the menu looked creative and left us wanting to come back and try different items.
The ambiance is super sleek, and modern. Very clean looking.
We will definitely be back, but please give us a different server.
Fun atmosphere with the games at the bar but I wish we had known that only the bar seating has video game access my husband was looking forward to playing a bit since it's a neat concept but since we made a reservation we were seated at a table without.
The food and drinks were great
Very loud. I'm not a gamer so I'm not their target customer. Food and service were good but it seemed expensive for what it is.
@nerdvana feels like a restaurant that can't find itself. Is it a fun, hip place for young people to go have a drink with friends and play video games? Well, not exactly: the entree price points are way too high for that. Is it a foodie mecca, where you can go enjoy a well-prepared cocktail, consistently great tasting, beautifully presented dishes and have a choice of good wines? Uh, not so much: waitstaff doesn't know what types of spirits they carry (can't name one), and when asked about bleu cheese olives for a martini, respond with "No, we only have the green ones." Ordered a bottle of wine.......never came............never came........we're almost done with our entrees at that point, and a manager comes by to ask if everything's "ok." Well, NO. Goes away to check on the wine situation, and comes back with a story: "We lost the key to the wine cabinet." Enough said.
I took my super nerd fiance there for date night. They just happened to seat us at a booth that had Super Smash Brothers, his all time favorite game! Our server, Nicole, was great! She made drink recommendations based on our tastes, was attentive, and made sure that we had everything in a very timely manner. This place helped me win date night! Would definitely recommend it to friends and might even plan a double date with some friends very soon. Super fun atmosphere with great selections on the menus and excellent service.
We made a reservation under the assumption that we would be able to have a booth with the option to play video games. Once we got there we realized there is only a limited amount of space/only a few booths that offer the video games. The menu is already limited/pricey, so being sat down to not be entertained but pay the same for a meal was not an option. The hostess was lovely and tried to put us on a list to be sat at a booth with the games, but I think the whole please needs to have this feature, not just a few booths.
The food was great but it was a little disappointing that there were no high chairs/booster seats. My child was one of at least 5 kids (not an exaggeration) that could have used one. It wasn't busy at all for a Sunday and that may be due to the fact that a pretty large percentage of Frisco's population has kids. I would definitely recommend it for the food, service and atmosphere.
We were so excited to try Nerdvana for the first time tonight. My 18 year old asked for us to celebrate his birthday dinner there with his friends. I made a reservation earlier in the week, thinking it would be for all of us to be seated at the tables with games. Unfortunately, we were not. They were able to work the birthday "boy" and friends into a game booth, but they only had two controllers. Our two younger sons that are 12 and 14 were not allowed to sit in a game booth, even though the games were Galaga and Mario Brothers and we, as their parents, were going to sit with them.
After feeling unwelcome and the 18 year olds sitting and watching just 2 play the game, we all decided it would be better to order pizza and play our own video game system at home. We left before ordering the $20-$40 a piece food. The waitstaff was very apologetic when we told her we were leaving before ordering. She even commented that she was so sorry for the bad birthday dinner.
Not a very family friendly place in family friendly Frisco. We are curious to see how long this place makes it. We were really rooting for it, but won't be back.
Great food! Very fun atmosphere.
We were seated promptly and greeted by our server quickly. Server was always available if we needed and ALWAYS smiling. The chef stopped by more than once to check on our experience, which was amazing. Our family ordered the french toast, steak sandwich, chicken sandwich and eggs with bacon. The eggs were a bit dry but everything else was very delicious. Next time the kids can share an entree, servings are huge. We went for brunch and I didn't eat again all day. Also ordered Tiny Tina's TKO and it was a meal and drink in one. I can't say enough good things about the experience and have mentioned it to almost anyone I see. It is exciting to have a place this great in the square to compete with Testa and offer a different experience. This place will be packed on FCD game nights. The only request is to have a kids menu but I think they are looking to keep this more as an adult place competing with the pubs on the north side of main street. We will be back either way!
It was our first time there and our Date night. The food was excellent However it was very open and loud so difficult to hear each other. Video games were at the booths and watching grown men play video games at the bar was not what the atmosphere we wanted on our Date night. Overall it was a fun place.
We prefer the coffee shop with board games next door.
I love going to game-centric places, so I was really excited when great food and games intersected. The concept is great- the execution, not so much. The restaurant is still pretty new and the food is good, but pricy for what they offer. The service has been pretty lackluster for the past two times we have gone. They also don't have enough game systems- if you're in the bar, there's plenty, but anywhere else you're just paying for ambiance. We were hoping for a go-to spot in Frisco, but we'll have to sit it out until they figure out how to run things.
Really great experience! Good service. Good food and drinks. We will be back.
A combo of high dinning and video game entertainment. Possibly one of the better ideas a restaurant could have. PS4's and Xbox 1's at the bar, and more old school consoles at the tables. The food was amazingly tasty. I would recommend the cherry lamb chop.
The food was very, very good! The decor and atmosphere were awesome. We didn't play any of the games this time, but we will be back!
I went with a small group of friends for the gaming atmosphere and were very disappointed. The place was pretentious and the food overpriced. The staff was awesome, but the manager was extremely rude! She either didn't communicate with her staff or was on a power trip because after we had checked that we could bring in games from the coffee shop side she came and told us we need to take the game back. Employees at both nerdvanas said it was fine and that people do it all the time. For a place that promotes gaming, it sure was difficult to play anything!
I wouldn't describe the noise as "energetic." I would describe it as way too loud. We were seated at a round booth and could really only hear the people right next to us. Forget chatting with a friend across the table. Bummer since we only get together once a month. I'd also add that it seemed like a manager was shadowing our sweet server for some reason. Sort of lurking behind her as she spoke to us. I'm not sure if that's customary, but it was... different. I'd like to take my family for the fun aspect of it, but the loudness is a huge deterrent for me.
