Nanas is a neighborhood restaurant in Durham, North Carolina. Helmed by Chefs Matt Kelly and Nate Garyantes, Nanas pays tribute to Nana’s, our beloved predecessor, while reimagining all of the details. Abundant, local ingredients shine on our seasonal menus, which feature dishes like Twice-Baked Grits Soufflé, Duck Ragout Tagliatelle, and the iconic Nana’s risotto alongside seasonal wood grilled whole fish, crispy lamb shoulder, and fresh-baked breads and desserts made daily in house. In our cozy bar you'll find finely executed classic cocktails and local beers, while the wine program offers upwards of 250+ labels of impeccably curated, farming-first wines. If your desired time for a reservation is not available our bar seats are open on a first come first serve basis. Call your nana, it's time to eat.

Our trout was fantastic, the special of the day. We recommend the dinner rolls as an appetizer as they literally melted in our mouths! We shared the risotto and also the okra (both yummy) and the icing on the cake was the chocolate soufflé with ice cream and chocolate sauce. We were celebrating a special occasion, our wedding anniversary, but already decided at the next event, we will be back to try other dishes.

Sever was fun, helpful responses to questions, and gave a personal kind of service; e.g. addressing each of us by name. Our specific food requests were happily accommodated. Nana's never fails to deliver.

This was an exceptional wine dinner featuring wine from the Jura region of France. Impeccable pairings, just the right amount insight/info from the importer, great ambience in the new private room... Even as an avowed wine dinner hound they can occasionally be a slog, somehow underdelivering by overdelivering (bottles, pours, details). This one really nailed it. Credit to the chef, staff, and of course the winemaker Stéfane Tissot. Doesn't hurt that there's such a nice bar to grab a nightcap in either.

I took two out-of-town guests for dinner last night (a Tuesday, when the restaurant was less than half full). While the quality of most of the food was excellent, the evening was marred by major blunders by the wait staff and kitchen staff. I ordered a bottle of wine for three but our waiter brought instead three glasses of the same wine (charging us more than a whole bottle costs). We then ordered two appetizers to share and at the same time ordered entrees. One of the appetizers appeared immediately without the waiter telling us when we could expect the second (the grits souffle) to arrive. Soon after that, our entrees arrived and -- only after asking about the missing second appetizer -- did the waiter explain that "there was a problem with the quality of the grits souffle." We ordered in its place a beet and strawberry salad that arrived with bits of hard, sharp pistachio shell mixed through it -- making the salad unsafe to eat. After alerting our waiter, the kitchen overseer came out to apologize and comped us for the salad. No apologies were ever offered by our waiter or by the hostess/maitre de for the mishaps and substandard service. A most disappointing evening for all of us. Nana's can, and should, do better than this.

Nanas didn't disappoint. Food was exceptional. Clover our server was outstanding. Thank you for making this a wonderful night. The taste of the food was fresh and elegant.

This was out first time dining at this establishment, and it was amazing. The service was perfect, the food was delectable and the overall experience made us fans. We will be back.

We went to a "fancy" restaurant to celebrate our 65th wedding anniversary. The warmness of the waiter to our celebration was very nice (as was the offered glass of bubbly!) We especially enjoyed food presentation (and the chicken liver pate starter). We went early so were not bothered much by the noise of the rapidly filling tables as we were leaving. That said, the accompanying "fancy" prices were not something we are likely to get used to!

Great experience for my birthday! They really make special occasions feel special. The food was delicious, pasta is a small portion so I’d do as an appetizer. Chicken & lamb was good portion. Great drinks!
