Mr. Tipple’s heralds back to a 1950s NYC basement. Cozy. Dark. Boozy. The intimate setting features local jazz artists up close and personal. It’s a joint where you come as you are, hear great music, tap your toes, and sip a properly chilled cocktail.

My name is Mr. Tipple. Just a simple and laughable bloke hailing from London. I run a recording studio. My friends joke that you’ll oft find me spinning cocktails, not reeling tape. After a few too many, I usually just sit back and enjoy the music, having forgotten to hit record. Regardless, the band is always jiving, the whiskey is always cold, and we’re having a smashing good time.

What a find! We have never been to this club despite our frequenting most music venues in the city. We went primarily to hear the SF Symphony Jazz Ensemble and they were fantastic. Such accomplished musicians, accompanied by an amazing saxophone player and pianist. The ambiance was terrific - I felt like we were in a NYC jazz club but it was nicer!!! The dim sum food was good and perfect for the setting. I wouldn't change a thing. This is truly an incredible venue for music, food, and ambiance.

Amazing Experience! We absolutely loved it. Everything about the room was perfect—cozy without feeling cramped, and thoughtfully designed for comfort. The drinks were incredible, and at just $35 for tickets, it felt like a great value. Plus, the location is super convenient—close to both Van Ness and Hayes Valley. Highly recommend

Absolutely love this place! An affordable price for a night of amazing music. Tasty food from next door, super fast and attentive service, and excellent sound engineering.

This is a wonderful, intimate jazz club with a great atmosphere. The music was excellent, the organization was smooth, and the overall experience felt very welcoming. We really enjoyed the food as well — everything we tried was delicious. It’s definitely worth a visit, and if we come back to the city, we would absolutely go again! Highly recommended. 🎶🍷✨

What a wonderful musical and culinary experience. Rob Woodcock Quintet thrilled us with gorgeous sound, and the entire staff was kind and attentive from the moment we arrived. We took a table near the bar for our dinner, and had a great view of the musicians while enjoying our dim sum feast (with vegetarian options!) Special shoutout to the wisdom and hospitality of Franquinho who worked his magic behind the bar and kept our dinner marvelously paired, and our conversation convivial, with excellent cocktails. We all look forward to our next visit, and highly recommend this cool spot for another friends dinner, a cozy date, or even a quick drink with some delicious jazz.

Such a cool spot for live jazz! The food was overpriced for what it was but the drinks, music and service were 10/10. Will definitely be back!

We sat in the Opium den which was a first for us in the three visits we had. We liked the area and as there were 7 of us it provided opportunity for us to interact and visit while enjoying the awesome music. One note, the bar didn’t carry simple and expected beverages such as ginger ale or 7up…unable to make a 7&7. Otherwise our experience was superb!

Sat at the front table during Dylan Hayes Trio. Was able to converse between sets. The sound was strong while not overwhelming.
