The Mountain House has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Serving as a rest stop for travelers, loggers and homesteaders in the Santa Cruz Mountains- we have evolved into a beloved destination known for our Coastal Countryside cuisine and rustic, intimate ambiance. Offering a menu highlighting game meats, locally sourced ingredients, and a curated selection of California and Old World wines, the Mountain House is one of the most unique settings in California. From a roadhouse to fine dining, the unassuming red cabin has stood the test of time along with the majestic redwoods that surround it.

Today, the restaurant is owned and operated by distinguished chefs Dmitry Elperin and William Roberts. We offer a three-course prix fixe menu for in our dining rooms and additionally, we serve an à la carte menu in our bar and lounge, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Take the scenic route to The Mountain House, where nature, history, and hospitality converge.

The Mountain House features a three-course, prix fixe menu with a selection out of five choices within each course for each guest. Priced at $87/person with a 20% service fee in lieu of gratuity.

                                    When we first walked in, it was very familiar from when we used to come up there and go to the mountain house. This time, though it was like watching a well oiled machine everybody was on the same level. Everybody had all the information for everything explained everything it was quite a well oiled machine. Servers were great cocktails were great, food was excellent different things we haven’t had before. It was really a treat. Yes we will be returning. Thank you for the excellent service and food.

                                    Very nice experience. Food tastes great - like the venison (+10) and ribeye (+25). Only we were 16min late so missed the 15min window for forest room. So make sure you are on time.

                                    5 stars – A Hidden Gem in the Woods! I had an amazing experience at Mountain House Restaurant. I was seated in the Forest Room, which felt like dining right in the middle of nature such a magical and peaceful atmosphere. It’s rare to find a place that offers such a beautiful setting and fine dining at such affordable prices. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and definitely exceeded expectations for the price. On top of that, the staff was incredibly helpful and kind, making the whole evening even more enjoyable. I will definitely come back. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a unique, relaxing dining experience without breaking the bank ^^

                                    Been a long time since we've been to the Mountain House, but its food, ambiance etc. still live up to its incredible reputation. Thank you Madison (our server) and to the chefs. I had the Venison (amazing!) and all the flavors were incredible. Still one of the bay area gems!

                                    This review is only for our latest visit, in the past MH has been superb. The waiter at our most recent visit was inattentive, ill-informed and rude. This type of service is a concern because I hope it does not reflect a shift for the restaurant, it also make the 20% automatic tip hard to handle since the service did not warrant this level of compensation.

                                    This is one of my go-to restaurants for celebrating a special occasion. The "Forest Room" is especially magical as you dine surrounded by beautiful, tall redwoods. The food and service is excellent.

                                    Our server was excellent... And the place is always a delight. I was surprised that they had a fixed menu..meaning that you paid for a full meal. You choose your entree, your salad or and desert. I was not expecting that...so I was surprised. I think it is a good idea but it is too much food for me.. Soup was superb as was the cake for dinner....But I was not excited by the chicken entree. I was dry hence I did not eat much of it. Everything else was excellent but the entree was a big part of the meal. I think chicken is hard to get right. Anyway, I think that I will do the bar menu next time. You can not sit in the main rooms but it will be better for my appetite and budget..

                                    We had a reservation at 7:30, we arrived on time and we still have to wait another 20 minutes for the table. Also I had notice, me and my partner are one of the few Asian costumers in the restaurant, and we had notice the service difference between us and the other costumers. The service we got was not worth it for 20 percent of tips that they automatically added to our bill.
