   Took my wife out for her 40th birthday. The food was hit and miss. Over priced for a vegetarian meal. Out of 5 cocktails could only drink two, which weren’t anything to write home about. The other three were undrinkable. Especially the Bloody Mary. Awful. Won’t be back

   What a fabulous experience it was having dinner at Monster. We enjoyed a vegan degustation - so many delights. Excellent attentive service. Highly recommended.

    Disappointing While the tasting menu with paired wines was a delight and the easy way my dietary requirement was accommodated, unfortunately what was supposed to be a special dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday was let down by poor service. More than 20 minutes after our pre-dinner drink glasses had been removed, we had to hail a passing staff member to request to place our order. 'Our' waiter, who had been standing at the back of the restaurant appearing to not be doing anything, explanation for the delay was that he didn't realise that he was looking after our table and it was "my bad". There was no apology. Unfortunately, our service didn't improve. Our paired wines either arrived significantly before or after each course and on one occasion we had to request cutlery after a course had been delivered. We went from being the first people seated to being one of the last to leave more than 3.25 hours after our 6pm reservation. Overall, our experience was not what I expected especially given the cost of the tasting menu and paired wines.

    My husband and I had Valentine’s Day dinner here 🙂 It was absolutely amazing. The set menu had a tomato theme so all the courses, including dessert and the paired beverages, featured tomato. Everything was extremely creative, well presented and tasted amazing. It was really exciting as we didn’t really know what to expect. Normally I wouldn’t think tomatoes would work for dessert but it did 🙂 Each course was paired with a different, equally creative, drink. My husband chose the alcoholic pairings and I, as the designated driver, chose the nonalcoholic pairings which honestly were just as creative as the alcoholic ones. The meals were also able to be made vegan 🙂 I highly recommend Monster

    Loved the food and the staff. We were not told the booking was only for two hours so needed to move to the lounge to have our desserts and finish our drinks. Not a problem but it should have been made clear to me when I booked or when we arrived. The lounge area was comfortable and was fine for finishing our meal. Having a different view of the space and the kitchen was also lovely. Great food, friendly and helpful staff. Will be back again (good to see it so busy on a Monday night!) Thanks to all the staff.

    Usually love Monster Kitchen and Bar for dinner so we thought it would be a safe bet for a good breakfast. The hot breakfast was okay, not worth the trip. The house made granola, coconut yoghurt, mixed berries? Disappointing. Two blackberries and one chopped strawberry does not constitute mixed berries. It’s a garnish. I’m guessing you’re aiming for hotel guests who won’t go elsewhere for breakfast, not for people like us. We’ll stick to your dinners.

    Just okay. For a restaurant that proudly touts its vegetarian menu, nothing was a particularly a stand out making the tasting menu not much more than a gimmick and quite mundane.

    Monster is amazing! This was our second time there with the summer menu. Even if vegetarian is not your thing, it’s really not mine! It’s so delicious! The head chef Matt has created and outstanding menu that celebrates vegetables and not how much vegetables can be like meat, so none of that fake meat stuff. Jake has been our server both times and his service was beyond believe both times. I cannot recommend Monster, Matt and Jake highly enough. GO THERE!

    Monster is a wonderful alternative from the usual hotel restaurant. It’s change to fully vegetarian is no reason for us carnivores to give it a miss. Everything is spiced up and beautifully served to allow you to care a lot less about your missing eye fillet. The staff were exceptional, the ambience laid-back. The share plates are fun and generous, you can order as much or as little as you want. Pay Monster a visit, I’m glad we did.

    Food was creative, complex and excellent quality. Flavours were amazing. We had a wonderful wine which really complemented the food. We are not vegetarian and had previously been put off by the ‘no meat’ concept - more fool us! A great meal and we will be back

    My only complaint was the noise level. The restaurant is not the place to have a conversation with others at the table. The noise was at times, unbearable and we left earlier that we would had decided. Pity, the food and service were great. We won't be coming back in a hurry.

    Love that Monster has gone fully vegetarian - it’s great to have an upmarket option for special occasions. The food was great - the corn ribs and cabbage rolls were amazing. The pumpkin dumplings and cauliflower were nice, but a little one-note and didn’t have the layered flavours of the other dishes. Also, if you cannot handle spice like my partner, you will not be able to taste anything but chilli with the cauliflower. Likewise, if you don’t like your drinks rubbing-alcohol-strong, the “gin bowls” are not recommended (our one also had whole peppercorns, which felt like a drinking hazard) - I had to peer-pressure my partner to finish half. Service was also quite slow - although good came out fast, we spent a lot of time with our water unfilled and waiting for food to arrive so we’d have an opportunity to order drinks. Also to be quite pedantic - when a bill comes to the table I assume so will the credit card machine, and you shouldn’t have to hunt down a staff member to process a transaction while carrying your bill tray around the restaurant after waiting twenty minutes for someone to visit the table. This review is a bit nit-picky, but when dinner is around $100 per person, you do want your food and service to be top-notch, especially in our case where we were visiting for our anniversary. Despite this, I do think this might be a case of their being unprecedented demand for a Thursday night and perhaps they were understaffed, and I would return to Monster, and will continue to go there for special events as I have in the past (and try get a table most in sight-line to get someone to the table with more ease).

    Plant based and absolutely delicious. We ordered burrata and tomato carpaccio,zucchini flowers, pumpkin squash in katsu curry and amazing cabbage rolls with filling that tasted and felt like beef.

    The lady who served me was very considerate. She put candles on my cake and also offered me a free drink! It was sad I had something urgent come up and couldn’t finish all of the drink.
