Monkey Cat Ratings and Reviews
Monkey Cat is a great go to dinner out spot. We look forward to having dinner there for two primary reasons, great food and upbeat professional staff. Our servers are always pleasant but not over the top. They understand when to interrupt to ask if anything is needed so your conversation can continue or you aren't caught with that bite you just took. The atmosphere is pleasant, cozy and eclectic. It's a reliable, go-to, restaurant. We always leave happy.
Went here for a Birthday dinner and it was a Sunday night. So even though they were busy it wasn't crazy noisy, which was nice. Waiter was amazing; great feedback/suggestions, joked around and made our special night a lot of fun. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the hostess we felt welcomed and comfortable. Wonderful Desserts too
We had a very impressive meal with warm, attentive service. The crab cake appetizer could have been hotter temperature-wise and that is my only negative comment. The flavor of the cakes was excellent. We followed with the wedge salad, which came with housemade blue cheese dressing and a generous amount of bacon. For our entree we had the filet, and it was out of this world tender with a delicious brandy mushroom sauce. We tried two desserts-the praline cheesecake and the chocolate mousse/flourless cake. Both were outstanding! Great, friendly service and a cozy atmosphere rounded out the experience.
Really enjoyed this restaurant. I got the chicken udon and it was very flavorful and I thought the broth was incredible. My mom got the Asian salad, it looked good but the dressing was a little strong for my liking (and hers as well). My aunt got the tomato soup (the special of the day) and it was very good and my husband got the burger with the side salad. The side salad looked a little disappointing, would recommend getting fries as a side instead!
The service was incredible... I forgot the name our our server, but she had blonde hair, was very friendly and knowledgeable and quick. Will be back to try more of their food offerings soon!
Caesar salad dressing was watery. Ribs were not flavorful. Salmon was good. Service was okay. It was Christmas Eve, and unfortunately, a mediocre dining experience. We recommend it and have gone there several times with very good experiences. We overheard the table next to us tell the waitress they never got their salad course, so spotty service wasn’t just us.
Nice upscale, warm, and welcoming environment with a tiny bar should you have to wait, but our reservation was on time with a great window table for two ready. Intentionally limited and well designed menu with additional daily specials, offering both appetizers and entrees. Well suited for a light or multi-course meal of well executed choices. Service was very good and personable. We were able to order appetizers before having to make up our minds on the main course, making for a leisurely dinner. Busy, even during the week, so reservations advised because it is popular with both local clientele and has a growing reputation as a discovery for tourist that pass through Auburn frequently. A great evening for two friends catching up over a really good meal.
I've already talked to the owner about our abrupt, impersonal, then inattentive waitperson. It was my first experience of that at Monkey Cat. She had no people skills or finesse, and left us for long periods when we needed water or something else. She had no charm or grace in her job. The food was good, as usual. I had salmon and asked that the sauce on it be light. The waitperson took it upon herself to ask for the sauce on the side -- not what I wanted. My granddaughters and I felt rushed to order dinner, rushed to decide if we wanted take-out boxes, and rushed to chose dessert.
Monkey Cat is my go-to place for lunch with friends and for dinner with my husband and other relatives. Most often meals there are very nice experiences.
Always reliable for great food and friendly efficient service. This is our favorite local dine out choice. Year round lovely environment. New menu doesn’t have our favorite petrole sole but the scallops were new to us and absolutely delicious! Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice lunch or dinner experience in auburn.
We had a party of 5 at 6pm for Thanksgiving. We eat at the Monkey Cat about once a month or a little less. Normally, the food and service is excellent. They not only seemed to be short-staffed on Thanksgiving, but they ran out of mashed potatoes and lamb chops! Who in the hell doesn’t make enough potatoes?! It took a long time to get cocktails and wine as well. When we spend $225+ for dinner for 3 people (the other two paid separately) we really do expect something better than average.
We had reservations for Thanksgiving and everything was perfect. There were 6 of us and we had a private booth which kept the feeling of having dinner with family. The food was very good and they gave several options for the main course instead of just limiting it to turkey. The server was very nice and prompt. We had a great time and will be back.
We (party of 4 adults and one child) arrived at 5:25 for our 5:30 reservation. While everyone there was very nice, we were very disappointed in the service: had to ask twice for the Shirley Temple, (which was made with soda water, not 7-up); never did get the Coke ordered, we had to wait 30 minutes for our order to be taken, then wait another 35 minutes for our food to arrive and one person only ordered a salad, two were already-cooked fish stews, another was appetizer of ribs with the most difficult was seared scallops, which was delicious. After ordering dessert, another wait of about 15 minutes before two small $8 cake slices arrived! When our bill didn't show up after having finished dessert and waiting another 15-20 mins, we finally just stood up and walked to the door, having to ask someone for our bill, another 5-minute wait for our server to appear with it. No one was at the check-in desk for me to leave my signed receipt with so we just paid it and left it there--not happy about that either.
I realize it was Saturday night but people were coming in after us, eating and leaving by the time we got our food! There was no one behind the bar and the kitchen must have been short-handed too because our server disappeared for long periods of time--cooking? This Auburn store needs to staff-up for a Saturday night.
It was a special occasion for us and we left feeling more than a little frustrated, disappointed and, frankly, embarrassed by our choice of dining places.
