We eat at Monkey Cat often, always loving it. The last two times though were not good. Once there was a guy with his kids with a basketball game turned on...on his phone with the sound all the way up so they could all watch the game. Waitress or manager should have had him turn it off. This time, we received the wrong food, it was cold and my to go bag we had to ask for since she took it away to have packaged but didn’t return with it. Then only my meat was in the bag.
The food was very good. I had short ribs and my husband had steak. We had calamari for appetizer which was also good. We ordered salads which were not delivered. When we were finishing the appetizer, the entrees were delivered. At that point we told them not to bother bringing the salads. Overall the staff was friendly and the food was good. We will give it a second try.
Great restaurant. The food was wonderful as usual. Love the ambiance
We were seated promptly. Our server, Urka, was cordial and attentive throughout our visit. We can't wait to return.
We had a wonderful meal. Our waiter Tony was great. The food was delicious and service stupendous. The short ribs were perfect and fell off the bone. We will return as soon as possible.
Salad swimming in dressing:-(
We each had appetizers because we like the variety of choices.
They use excellent quality ingredients and each dish has many combined to make the taste perfect.
The salad has nuts and fruit included with just right dressing for instance.
They present a tray of desserts to pick from so you don’t guess what will arrive.
The server takes a long time to arrive and usually there all only 2 for whole restaurant
Nice place to eat in Auburn - the food was good for the price and the service was very good.
Excellent service, and the Halibut was awesome. Cooked to perfection!!
We always love Monkey Cat! Great food, service, and atmosphere!
My husband and I celebrated our 38th Wedding Anniversary! It was a very nice evening. Everything was wonderful!
The food was awesome as always, service was great! Best place in the foothills by far.
My wife and I moved to Auburn a year ago and have been to many local restaurants - Monkey Cat is our favorite. We came from the Bay Area and Monkey Cat could easily make a place for itself in a sea of excellent dining establishments.
We were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary on April 1st. The service was outstanding, food was delicious, and the ambiance was fantastic. When we ordered dessert, our waitress surprised us each with a glass of Port. She said this was on them, and wished us a Happy Anniversary. If you're looking for a special place to celebrate or just want great food, the Monkey Cat is the place to go.

Went early (5pm) on a Sunday. Food was fantastic and service was attentive and friendly
Service was friendly but slow. Asked for water and never received it. Meal was prepared well but lacked flavor. Didn't have top shelf Rum. Not a full bar service as expected.
Not enough wait staff so we did not get good service. One of the meals (steak) had been asked to be medium well and came out medium rare so had to be sent back so rest of our table of 4 were done with their meal before he got his steak back. Had to wait along time for drinks to be ordered and then along time for them to come. Same with meals. Then took forever to get our bill and it was wrong so had to wait again. Waitress had a very bad attitude.
Food was amazing!! Needed more staffing as a little slow on getting water and our drinks. Food came pretty quickly. All and all no complaints. I have been here many times. Great 👍🏼
We didn’t appreciate that we had to pay for two more pieces of bread for dinner came with two pieces we asked for more and we had to pay that is ridiculous we ordered salad appetizer main course and dessert and cocktails and we had to pay for our bread what a shame !
Delicious, fresh cuisine. Nice variety of wines. Charming ambience. Very friendly staff.
Consistently good food which is the chief reason we return as well as our preference to patronize local businesses. Our server was very polite and friendly, but was not sufficiently attentive to our (basic) needs. It seems as though she had too many tables assigned to her or was otherwise occupied.
Went with my husband and 22 year old daughter, we had no idea what to expect but Monkey Cat exceeded our expectations in every way. We were all very hungry and probably over ordered, nothing was left at the end. Loved the fried artichoke and brie crostinin appetizers. Asian chicken salad was a great entree size portion and delicious. My husband loved his ribeye and daughter had the burger all very good.
The service from our server was perfect, she was very knowledgeable and helpful with the entire meal and recommended great drink choices. We will make that a regular choice for dinning in Auburn. Btw I do not write reviews but we enjoyed our experience, I very much wanted the restaurant to know.
We had reservations we went right into our cable did not have to wait or server came right to us we had cocktails we had appetizers my husband had a fillet and I had a ribeye both were outstanding the only thing is I got french fries with my mail and my husband got roasted potatoes roasted potatoes would be better with the ribeye instead of french fries we also had a lemon cake dessert which was outstanding had a wonderful time we’ll be back .
Excellent dinner. Good service.
Had the watermelon soup, which was very creative and very tasty.
Have been there several time. Always had a good experience.
We had a nice dinner, I recommend the tomato blue cheese soup and their bread!
It has always been a treat to drive up the hill for a salmon dinner at Monkey Cat. The sea bass was not as good. We tried their tomato blue cheese soup that was unique a actually very good. The service was great. We got there early (5:30) so no wait and not noisy. This is one of our favorite places for anniversaries or birthday dinners.
One of the best dining establishments in Auburn. When friends visit from out of the area, MC is typically our first call. Always a wonderful menu, with well prepared food.
Yes, I would recommend it because it is convenient and the food is good - not excellent, but good. The menu has changed and I see fewer real options for those of us who are vegetarian (not vegan). The service was very nice. The music awful - we asked it be changed and turned down.
First time here for most of our party. We will definitely return. The ambiance is attractive, the service wonderful, and the food was delicious. Three in our group had the Udon with Scallops and raved with each bite. The artichoke appetizers were crispy and zesty.. just as we liked.
Each of the four of us had a different dinner and all were awesome! Service was great. Dessert was yummy. We can't wait to return.
Great food and location in Auburn; the service a bit slow.
The person that seated us was just wonderful with my girls. He was very personable. I felt the menu had price variety which was nice since everyone didn’t get a $25 meal by default. The bread is absolutely divine. I wasn’t too thrilled with the duck. I refer a berry sauce and crispier skin, but that might just be me. The snap peas with if were great! The lemon cake with marscapone for dessert was also really good. Nice little upscale local place.
Excellent local lunch/dinner/cocktail spot in the historic district of Auburn. Food is always of the finest quality and the friendly management and service staff make it a must go to place when in the area.
My wife and I truly enjoy Monkey Cat. Although the menu is not extensive, the food is always good. On our most recent visit our neighbors joined us and MC did not disappoint. As usual the food, service and ambience came together to make it a nice evening out.
PS - The fresh, hot bread is always "the Bomb".
Great Service, a little pricey but I always order the Seafood Pasta special because they do it right!
I often forget what a great place we have hear in Auburn. The steaks are fantastic, great service and varied menu. So happy to have re-discovered Monkey Cat!
Always a pleasant experience. Crab cakes are wonderful. The seafood pasta is fabulous. More fish, clams and muscles than you would expect. The creamy pasta sauce is delicious.
Good food, local wines available, we could carry on a conversation; cozy spot on a stormy night!
Ultimately didn't dine here - but hear me out. We arrived for a 6:45 reservation (we drove over from Rocklin and were excited to try someplace new that we discovered on the Open Table app). As we scanned the room we could see three or four available tables for two scattered around. We were shown to the worst of the available tables (noisy and wedged between other diners). When we asked if we could sit at one of the better tables we were told no, that those tables were "reserved". OK, get it. There's us Open Table Reservations pedestrians, then there's the truly important people. We took our seats as crisply requested. After a few moments we both looked at each other and said "no". The seating thing and the way it was handled were "just lousy enough" that we didn't want to spend our money there. Instead we randomly walked into a nicer place across/down the street, got a great table with no reservations, and had two of the best steaks we could recall in a long while. Monkey Cat... you lost $98 for two, plus all return visits. Sorry things didn't work out... we're sure the food would have been great.
A nice surprise from downtown Auburn!
