A New Concept by Chef Howsoon Cham, originally from The Gambia, West Africa, Chef Howsoon Cham started cutting his teeth in the high end restaurant scene and eventually went on to own several restaurants in the D.C. area. Fast forward to today, he realized there is a lack of American food with a West Africa flare in D.C. so he decided to launch Moi Moi.

Pleasr avoid this place called moi moi, the food is terrable we ordered beef suya and it was boiled not grilled, the red snapper was fried with canned whole tomatoes poured over it, and did I mentioned the oxtail was mixed with stale rice and beans. The seats were so uncomfortable, too low. Please if you are looking for a real authentic african dish moimoi is not the place. The waiter described their food as african food with a twist. Please do not waste your time and money.

Came here super excited to try the food! Service was great, our server Daniel was very attentive and friendly. The Suya Platter, plantain and greens were excellent. However the Suya spiced New York strip was trash, very poor quality steak, dry and very little Suya flavor to it. Would not recommend! The Jollof was also disgusting! Ended up sending it back! At the end of dinner when we got our bill we noticed that there was an up charge on the items ordered with a pay with card it’s this amount and pay with cash it’s this amount (maybe 5% less) this was wildly inconsiderate because no where on reservation or menu did it state this would happen! I would have brought cash to avoid the upcharge so beware! I would probably rate this place 6/10 and I was so turned off with the surprise with the bill that I wouldn’t go back.

Terrible service. Walked in and was never greeted. It took over 10 minutes to just be greeted and sat down. The waitress was rude. Will not be returning!!

Good wasn’t hot rice tasted like it had sand gravel in it. Told waitress about it didn’t offer to give us new rice nothing. Read reviews and thought this would be a nice place with great food all lies.

The experience was AWESOME! I truly enjoyed the fried snapper dish along with the wings and peach cobbler! Will visit again!

The food prices has risen up and Moi Moi seems to have lost it appeal as the place to be. It’s was very quiet with few dinner guests. Our serve was great and so was the rest of the staff.
