Items were missing from food before we ordered. We weren’t told till after we ordered. Food was delivered in awkward times. Half the table had food and the other half had to wait 15 mins before it was delivered.

Although the service was wonderful, I was not happy with the food. I ordered beef hearts and it was tough and chewy; my fried plantain was very small portioned; my daughter barely touched her chilliquilies. I would recommend the Mochica to a friend as long as they know what they are ordering.

Overall a very positive experience. Food is creative, yet authentic - exceptionally good quality - and very very tasty. The whole place is paneled with wood so it's quite noisy even without many people there, so keep that in mind. Service can be hit or miss, but it's not maligning - just slow. Food really knocks it out of the park, though. Flavors are all at a higher level than the price might suggest and portions are NOT Tapas portions... they're enormous! Nicely done, Mochica.

Food not bad for a casual quick fix, but not a fine dinning experience. The cebiche was fresh and good, but the prepared dishes were made in a more mass scale rough manner; the lomo saltado used tomato sauce... - a no-no - turning into more of a stew, not a saltado. The aji de gallina too much spices and too thick. Not bad, but being connoisseurs of peruvian food, we expected more original flavors and structures.

I was celebrating my son’s birthday, PHD qualifications with him and a friend. I made the reservation based on the reviews. I was not disappointed and glad I made reservations in advance. The food was exceptional and the many delicious cocktails was the highlight of our dinner. We shared a selection of different drinks and were pleasantly surprised by the verity of great tasting drinks. I highly recommend this Mochica.

We arrived early for our reservation, no problem, seated quickly. The service was top-notch and our litany of questions were answered. The food was great. A beet salad, pork shoulder and Aji chicken. Churros and an ice cream float for dessert. Great value for a meal to boot. We don’t make it to Portrero Hill often but when we do this is a great place for a meal.

This was a favorite restaurant of mine when I used to live in SF so hadn’t been to Mochica in several years. It was as good as I remembered...Waitress was awesome and the food was amazing (ceviche, octopus, tuna was on point)!

Overall the meal was good. One of us had the Lomo Saltado but found it to have a chorizo flavor which she didn’t like. The asparagus was a miss too for all of us. I did find the coconut rice to be excellent as well as the sangria.

This Peruvian place is definitely one to recommend. The Ahi Tuna Ceviche is very delicious, the plantanes were amazing, and the Mexican shrimp with sweet potato purree was our favorite. Many great vegetarian options available too.

Meh. Paella was soupy, not a real paella. No bread available. When the paella arrived and I asked for bread with it and was told no bread available, I ordered garlic bread instead, but wasn't told it would take a while and it didn't arrive until after the paella was finished. Small plates were too big for appetizers and too small for main courses. Pricey in relation to the quality of the meal and service.

We received two menus for dessert. Same menu, different prices. One showed a plate of churros at $12, the other showed them for $10. We joked about this with the waitress, who apologized. We received our bill noting the $12 price. Any decent restaurant would have given it to their customer for $10 as an apology for the mistake, and to take ownership of it. I could care less about two dollars, but it was the principle of it. Left a bad taste in our mouth. Not impressed.

The worst experience ever. I made a reservation and it's empty. 92 seconds of my life lost. I think dinner is better than brunch. The girl that took the order was lost, confused, lost in translation. My friend got her food 3 hours later because their menu failed to say it was fried food.

I'm just not happy, drinks are great, but the food left a lot to like, I'm just no that interested.

So this is the last time I will visit this place. Their excuse is that their printing machine was running slowly. The issue is the people taking the order, hire new people.

Love Peruvian food and know several top restaurants both in Lima, NYC, and SF. Came here with good expectations that weren't met. Service was confusing (4 different servers, overlapping, and the restaurant wasn't so busy) and lackluster. The ceviche was quite good, but there weren't alternatives for enjoying it other than greasy too-fried yucca chips. Beet salad was also good, but was drowning in dressing. Chicken was perfect. They were closing and encouraged us to leave -- fair, but we came for a nice meal -- ordered wine, pisco sours, and a lot. Tough to recommend this spot -- it could do better.

The quality of food has deteriorated. And while Ceviche was something that Mochica did really well, the Fosh of the day (Red Snapper) ceviche did not taste right. The quality of the fish was not up to the mark. Mentioned this to our server who looked into it and got us another ceviche which was clearly made with fresher fish and much better.

Overall luke warm experience.

The dishes certainly have unique flavors and presentation, but the price for such small portions is a bit outrageous. You have to convince yourself you are doing a good deed by supporting a family-owned Potrero Hill-located, eclectic-chef run struggling restaurant,... but it’s hard to swallow a $125 bill for two entrees, a starter ceviche, two beers and the tiniest (really simply a ‘shot’) of pisco sour ($13). We went home feeling nourished, but slightly pick-pocketed, but now we know. Also, that advertised Happy Hour (which has enticed us) is only available @the extremely small bar (couldn’t be more than 7 seats, so roll the dice there!

Food is decent but at top tier prices it doesn't measure up. 8 pieces of fried yucca for $9. Are you f$@king kidding me? Service was all over the place. Didn't find out there was a second side to the placemat menu until half way through our meal. They say their suspiro is made with manjar blanco and it might be but they turn it into a pudding so don't expect thick caramel. They don't take AMEX and for those prices they should be more service oriented. It's hard to enjoy your meal when you just feel taken advantage of. Not worth it. Won't return.
