Mistral - Sherman Oaks Ratings and Reviews
Went for Dine LA, took the 3-course meal; food and service were excellent! Alex, our head waiter, took excellent care of us. Also, the owner, Henry, stopped by to confirm everything was acceptable. Highly recommended if you are looking for a quality French bistro...
This was our first visit to Mistral, a place we had wanted to go to for many years, but somehow had never made it there. It lived up to its reputation. The preparation and quality of the food could not be bettered. Service was perfect and attentive, yet not the hovering kind. The restaurant is smallish and warmly decorated. The only reasons I rated the ambiance one notch below outstanding were (1) it's a tad to noisy and (2) our table location adjacent to where all the waiters gather or come out from the kitchen -- a very high traffic spot. As a heads up to future diners, it's a rather expensive restaurant. We were fortunate that it was included in the semi-annual 2-week DineLA program. For $49 we received a choice of starters (the scallops I chose were cooked perfectly), a choice of entrees (my wife chose the rack of lamb - perfect) and a choice of desserts (do not miss the chocolate souffle). On the regular menu all this would have been about $25 more. We will return when we a looking for a special evening and, of course, for the next DineLA in July.
The overall atmosphere was nice...
Regarding the food it was a big disappointment and over priced relative to the level of the food.
My first order was the Spicy shrimps - nothing special ... just shrimps - not worth the price ...
Next I ordered a New York Stake - priced around 50$ - I got a big piece of steak that was dry and hard to cut with a sharp knife. The stake came with an enormous amonut of french fries that had a smell of old cooking oil. My guest had a half of the Onion soup - She didnt want to eat anymore ... oh, And they lied about the wine (they told me it was 'brunello' and it was something else) ...
Not worth it ... They need Gordon Ramsie to fix their kitchen ...
I've been to Mistral twice -once we just sat at the bar and had a chocolate soufle and glass of red wine. The second time was for dinner. I highly recommend the scallops. The owner greeted us, and the waiter was nice. The food was good, and the atmosphere is warm.
Not Great. After years of reading praising reviews of this restaurant, we expected a lot more. It is a store front location in a busy commercial area, nothing appealing or anything that would make you want to go in. The service was excellent and they really tried to make this a pleasant experience. The food was just not that great, average or just OK at best. It became very loud the longer we were there. Just not the kind of place you want to ever go back too. The prices on the regular menu were very high, the sort of prices that you would expect at a high class restaurant with excellent food. Many better choices in the area.
The occasion was DineLA. Stunning food! Great service. The DineLa menu was composed with great expertise. Unlike so many other restaurants charge extra for expensive ingredients,Mistral menu included large Maine Scallops, Wagyu beef, rack of lamb, chocolate souffle .
DineLa is a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with this top level restaurant at a reasonable cost.
Celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary at the same place I proposed in 1982, when it was Albion's. Honestly this was one of the best meals I ever had. Service was wonderful, food was amazing, and everyone who worked there seemed to really care about making this a special night. 100% highest rating.
The food was incredibly good and the service was excellent. The restaurant was decorated for Christmas beautifully. My only complaint is that the chairs at the tables were uncomfortable (wooden, fairly low backs) and slightly wobbly. For the price of the food I’d expect cushier seats that make you want to linger for a few more glasses of wine. Overall, it’s a fantastic restaurant.
Extraordinary restaurant with excellent food and impeccable service. We went for the prix fixe Thanksgiving dinner, and the menu was outstanding. Classic fine-dining fare with a hint of Thanksgiving flavors and presentation. We've been for the regular menu as well, and it's just as good. Just great food served by good people who are happy to have you and work hard to make your experience special. I love this place.
Wonderful Thanksgiving meal. The food could not have been better, and the service was attentive and professional. Everything was well prepared--fresh and expertly seasoned. The portions were most generous. For starters, my wife had shrimp cocktail with with five huge, perfectly cooked shrimp. I had an arugula salad which was superb. For the entrees, my wife had the John Dory which was excellent, and I had the traditional turkey with almost all the trimmings. I missed the dressing, but there was more than enough on my plate. For dessert, my wife had chocolate souffle, and I had the pecan tart with a huge scoop of vanilla gelato. Plus a fine bottle of Pino Noir which our waiter helped select. A wonderful Thanksgiving feast. This was our first time at Mistral; we look forward to enjoying lunch here.
I hope you accept my revue as objective in spite the fact that my wife and I have been steady customers pretty much from the get go nearly 30 years ago. Food is outstanding. They use top notch, fresh ingredients. Cooking is extraordinary. Attention to detail is unfailing. There is a large selection of California as well as French,Spanish and Italian wines. Mixed drinks are fabulous. Now the best part: SERVICE! The best. Friendly, professional, helpful ,informed and fast.
Reservations are essential. The restaurant is completely booked every night.
