The food was very good, even though they were out of a few menu items by 7:30pm. They seated us ahead of our reservation, which was very much appreciated.
We were seated immediately and Doug was our very adorable waiter. He was friendly, efficient and kept us happy throughout our meal. We had the mussel special as an appetizer - seriously delicious!! For entrees I had the scallops over lobster Mac and cheese. It was yummy even though I didn’t taste or get any lobster. My husband enjoyed his shrimp and grits! Then to top it all off we had the chocolate pecan tart, which was good but nothing amazing.
We would definitely come back - it was a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
Love this restaurant and haven't been in 18 months due to Covid. Had a celebration last night and went for Julia Child week. Food was AMAZING as always!!! Great service, never felt rushed, just wonderful food and a fun evening.
Fantastic food. Fantastic service. Great specials.
What an incredible meal! The scallops were perfectly prepared and the lobster Mac and cheese was delicious. Had blueberry lemon drop martinis and they were amazing. Highly recommend for an outstanding dining experience.
Great bartender. She had great recommendations. Very good food and drinks
A very nice cafe. Excellent food and service. Chicken and biscuits are a must have.
Great food and service.
As usual, lunch at Midtown was perfect. I had the Thai chicken Salad and a Midtown first-timer had the Sea Bass and Lobster Risotto. Cooked to perfection!! It is my go-to place downtown for a nice lunch or dinner. Waitstaff is always excellent!
Very friendly service, and the food came out super quickly
Always great food. I found it a bit too crowded. Even without Covid the space was tight. I was surprised they they were back to regular seating so close together. Especially with Tn having one of the highest infection rates in the country. So, I felt very uncomfortable, which effected the enjoyment of our meal.
Had an 8pm reservation in a Tuesday and walked into a full restaurant. Even the bar and bar area was full. We were not in a rush and didn't mind waiting, but others canceled their reservations and walk-ins were turned away. Now I know these things happen, a couple large groups stay longer than anticipated and the restaurant gets backed up. This is a small restaurant, tables are close together and not a lot of bar space. That being said the food was fantastic, one of only a few places in town with veal! All in all great little place!
Our server, Herman was absolutely fantastic. Around the table we enjoyed a filet, chicken scallopini, chicken saltimbocca and sea bass. All were really good. My only negative is the restaurant has a bit of a musty smell when you first enter. It was 90 degrees outside, which I’m sure had a lot to do with that. The tribute to Julia Child dishes sounded interesting. Might go back soon and try one!
The service and food was so awesome with Waiter Herman we went back the next night!
We eat at midtown frequently and it is ALWAYS excellent. We love to eat there and ride their bus to downtown venues but the food.....the food is an even bigger draw. I've never been disappointed.
Wonderful brunch. The service and food were both wonderful.
The service was very good and I enjoyed ambiance
Dale and Gina (wait staff) were extremely friendly and service was excellent. Highly recommended.
Nice place - food was pretty good. However the service was not really up to scratch. One of the Appetizers was either forgotten or not put in, so the one person who had soup had finished before the humus finally arrived only after a reminder. The medium rare steak was at least medium well so was returned. The second steak was good but again the meal was done in “two sittings”. A token gesture of a free desert was nice but didn’t really cut it. To be fair the server did seemed slammed but they knew how many reservations they had. Disappointing.
This is one of our favorites and they were great last night. They were slammed with the biggest crowd I've seen since Covid but they handled it. Service was great and the food is always great too.
Delicious Southern style food combined with excellent service
Food was delicious and the wait staff was very attentive.
Food and service were great as usual. We live in Franklin and wish MidTown was here.our favorite place to go.
I had dinner at the Cafe with my elderly mother; we had plans at another restaurant which were unfortunately cancelled with little notice (due to a positive COVID test among the staff of that restaurant), so we scrambled and made a reservation at Midtown Cafe. It turned out to be a wonderful meal.
The exterior is deceptive, as it is very unassuming…… one wouldn’t realize the quality of the food and service from the outside. The dining area was somewhat dark (not much lighting), but we were seated quickly in a room with several tables….. quickly ordered drinks, and looked at the menu. Lots of good classic Southern dishes. My mother and I both ordered salads, and enjoyed them. She ordered the crab cake (entree), where I got the shrimp and grits. Mine was particularly good, with the sauce having just a perfect amount of heat. We saved room for dessert; my mother got the chocolate chip pecan pie, and I had the bread pudding - again, they were both delicious.
The service was excellent; friendly and helpful, and the pacing of the meal was perfect. What ended up being a bit of a scramble (in our having to find a replacement from our originally-planned destination) ended up being terrific. I would absolutely go back.
Food was wonderful. Specials were sea bass and lamb. Lobster Mac and cheese delicious. Cooked perfectly. Brussel sprout appetizer was delicious. Cozy atmosphere. Make a reservation only 20 tables. Good portions. Waiter was Herman and he was so wonderful! Happy, great service and just a wonderful person! All waitstaff was busy and helpful! Loved Midtown Cafe food, service, location and atmosphere!
Service exceptional. Food great. Excellent experience as always.
This has long been one of the best restaurants in Nashville, TN. It is a hidden gem on a side street that offers all you can want including valet. I have met clients there, brought friends for lunch or dinner or just had a lovely meal with my honey. Do make a reservation though as it is a small place with a great vibe and has many regulars!
We have followed the fine offerings of restaurateur par excellence, Randy Rayburn, at least, since the 1990s (F. Scott’s, Sunset Grille, Cabana and MidTown Cafe. He and his associates always deliver an enjoyable experience. We had not visited MidTown in a number of years but did have an anniversary lunch there yesterday. The Lemon Artichoke is as delicious as always, but it was definitely on the salty side. The Fried Green Tomatoes were tasty and pleasing, both in terms of flavor, temperature and texture. However, the dish may be incomplete and could possibly use one additional counterpoint element.
The star of this lunch was the day’s special: Sautéed Sea Bass in a Champagne Beurre Blanc, accompanied by a Mixed Veg Sauté and Lobster Risotto. The Sea Bass was a very generous portion, and it and its sauce were delish. The Veg Sauté was also spectacular. The Lobster Risotto was also quite good in flavor and texture, but the presence of Lobster could definitely have been improved if a amped up a bit.
We also added a Side of the Charred Brussels Sprouts. Even as a very reasonably priced Side, it was quite a generous portion. However, they were overdone and therefore tending towards the bitter side. One almost had the impression they had been cooked twice. They were all but saved by the presence of minced fresh Green Apple and chopped Walnuts. The Mandarin orange sections might be more appreciated by some but seemed like unnecessary hitchhikers to me.
It was great to see Randy, as affable as ever. I also enjoyed returning to an older, once very regular and familiar haunt of ours. The Paul Harmon art always adds a friendly touch. The building’s interior has aged and could use a facelift and some freshening.
It is a romantic spot for a special occasion. Another plus is they are now also serving Breakfast. So, bottom-line for me is MidTown is, albeit an aging one, still a good choice for a business lunch, lunch or dinner date and now also a breakfast spot.
I had the “always on the menu” lemon artichoke soup. Never fails to let me down. Also, I had the delicious crab cake appetizer. My friend loved her Florentine omelet.
All was perfect. Thank you, Midtown!
Sunday brunch. Our wait person was great. Very attentive even though the restaurant was quite busy. I regret I do t remember his name.
Came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Great food and fantastic service.
The service was wonderful. The hostess was so gracious as we had ever changing seating requests. The Sea Bass was the best ever.
Great food, service, and access!
One of my favorite restaurants. Food is always spectacular, as is the service. Noise levels get a little too high for a romantic ambiance. Food prices seem to have SOARED over the past year
Great place. Hidden away. Worth finding. Ask for Herman.
From the street this is a restaurant you might pass by and that would be a mistake. Cozy dimly lit charming environment. I've been here numerous times, and took friend along this time. We were welcomed at door after several changes to accommodate our group, all done professionally and with a desire to please us. Our server Doug greeted us right away for drink orders and then provided excellent service throughout the meal. Food options are varied and in my experience all excellent. Wine list is a good compliment to the menu. All in all this restaurant is an excellent hidden gem.....and is always busy.
Consistently excellent food and service -when I come to Nashville, I eat there at least once a day!!!! Best mimosas ever!
Midtown has consistently been one of my Nashville favorites for over 30 years.
