Our waiter didn’t have time to serve us since he had too many tables to serve. We had to pour to ourselves our own cool wine bottle and water.

Aron and Alp were gracious and kind. Plates were delish! Never disappointed with service here. Saw the legendary Mert and exchanged warm greetings. Great food, fantastic service and wonderful ambience. This place is a gem. Thank you all at Mey House!

We liked Meyhouse, and the food was certainly a nice change with lots of items we had never had before. The appetizers we liked the best were the hummus and the artichoke bottoms. The fried sardines needed some additional taste or salt or something, but I was glad we tried them. For the main courses, the lamb was a stand out. Three very large chops cooked perfectly. The fish dishes were also good but the portion size was smaller so my husband was happy that I'd ordered the lamb. The problem with the meat dishes is that they are quite expensive, and the only vegetable that comes with them is a form of potatoes. Rather than being encouraged to order so many appetizers, we would've been better off to order salad or some other vegetables because the food is quite heavy. The restaurant is clean and cheerful and has an upbeat atmosphere. But there are a few reasons why I would rate it maybe a 4.4 rather than a 5.0. First, I felt that our waiter oversold us, and we just ordered way too much food! We hadn't had Turkish food before and asked for his advice about how much to order. Secondly, the craft cocktail that I ordered was expensive – $20 - and too sweet/not that interesting - tequila with pomegranate juice and a few other items. Not worth the money or the trouble. Additionally, our drinks took a long time to arrive because the bar was too busy. Lastly, the food is expensive and the restaurant also adds a 4% charge on top of everything including tax. Our total was roughly $130 PP, rather stiff for a casual weeknight dinner. I would return, but we would certainly order much more selectively. But only go if you're really hungry because the food is pretty heavy!

Turkish cuisine is a treasure house of dishes picked up form all over the Ottoman empire though the ages, and is also modernizing. There are very few high quality restaurants for this sort of cuisine. Meyhouse is certainly one of the best I've seen in the US - certainly in Silicon Valley. There are foods that don't get much love here like sweetbreads and liver, but also a great selection of vegetarian/vegan dishes, seafood and grilled meats. There's a good selection of Meze, and it's a good idea to start with a bunch of these, and then move on to a main course. It works better with more people or bigger appetites.
