We were extremely disappointed by our experience tonight at Mesu. We were rushed to order our food and then had to ask another server to order a 2nd drink. Our server rarely checked on us and we had to ask 3 times for our bill. He was definitely preoccupied by other tables. We were rushed through the dining experience and then waited over 30 minutes for our bill. We will not go back.
Interesting concept and the fusion of Asian and Mexican was decent. The service was poor. He almost got our entire order wrong. He was slow. They seem disorganized. Many good choices in Charleston we won’t be back.
Great meal and great service.
Very crowded, tables too close to each other. Food was great, drinks were awesome. People who ordered tacos got their food about 10 mins before those who got sushi. Both were delicious though!
Great food for restaurant week!
The food and drinks were great! I want to try more soon.
Our group loved being able to chose Mexican or Sushi. Food was tasty- street corn was a favorite. Service was slow - we often had to chase down our server
Great concept. Great sushi!
Everything was great except they put wasabi in the fish bowl and you couldn’t tell so it was a surprise to eat the big chunk of it. Should have been on the side or the server should have told us about it.
Our experience was smooth and positive vibes.
Loved it! Food was amazing and the service was on point! I’ll be back.
Wonderful staff, wonderful
Food. Good Tequila recommendations.
This was our first visit. Our server Cheyenne was amazing. He made very helpful menu suggestions and was very pleasant. We had the best sushi ever.
It was great!
Probably the best taco and sushi I ever had! If you like either of those things, Mesu is a place you need to go to !
Very cool place. Nice servers. The food was amazing. Fun music, but not too loud where you can’t hold a conversation. This was our favorite place in Charleston.
Mesu is incredible with Japanese and Mexican cuisine in one building, which makes for a perfect compromise for most couples on most nights. They sell art off the walls and an awesome selection of sake, so in general, Mesu is a refreshingly unique spot in downtown Charleston. Sushi is the best the city has to offer, and they import from Hawaii. I could go every night!
The restaurant and atmosphere were both ok. The food was great but on the expensive side. Our server was not busy but didn’t come back to the table to check if we needed anything. We had to track her down anytime someone at the table of 6 needed something.
Food was good but not great. Server a little hurried and not so customer friendly.
Close pin tacos are delicious and tuna nigiri also fresh and good!
Food was good but we were met with an extremely strong smell of grease. There was clearly no venting system and the fryers were too close to the seating area so the smell was very strong, to the point we almost didn’t stay. The food was very good and the service was good.
First time here last week and was pleasantly surprised! Short menu but everything we tried was excellent starting with Guacamole and tuna and ending with carnitas, poke, shrimp. All were quite good.
The service was actually exceptional and really made the difference.
Food was okay. Service was great
The staff was great, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun!
Loved the mix of Japanese and Mexican! Very fun and eclectic décor!
Lots of fun. Great vibe. Awesome idea for a fusion! And of course the food was really, really good. Could eat the Honolulu bowl every day. We will definitely come back next time we’re in town!
We made a reservation through Open Table 2 months ahead. For a Monday night. The reservation was confirmed through Open Table the day before. We were on vacation. We showed up on time for our reservation only to find the restaurant was CLOSED on Mondays. As a restaurant, do you really not check your reservations ahead of time, or let Open Table know you’re closed on Mondays? This is inexcusable, particularly considering what restaurants are going through right now. I will NEVER go to this restaurant after what they did this time.
My daughter and I enjoyed our meal. We shared the beef nachos and the Hawaiian Special Bowl. We topped it off with churros stuffed with caramel.
We sat outside great concept, just college crowd was a bit much (next time we will go earlier)
Nice because my husband likes sushi...and I like Mexican. Worked quite nicely!!
Cool vibe, awesome food and service! We will definitely return!
Great rolls. Nice fusion concept. I would definitely recommend this place.
The food was delicious and very unique! We had great service and the drinks were amazing! I do wish there was a larger menu especially for the sushi. We would definitely come back when in Charleston again!
We had a great meal and were happy to see that the staff was following the guidelines for face masks and distancing in the restaurant. I ordered a drink that was not listed on the menu and bartender was not only happy to make it - it was fantastic. He even came over to the table to chat about it and check that it was okay.
Delicious! We got the tempura lobster roll, the chorizo spring rolls (more like deep fried egg rolls) and margaritas. All delicious, served quickly by amazing staff!
Just visiting Charleston.
Clothespin tacos are a must. Was a busy Saturday night but worth the wait. Server was really apologetic and very nice.
We very much enjoyed the food and the great idea for a restaurant that combines flavors. Our biggest gripe by far was the table spacing during these times. Outside of covid times it would be a great place to eat , but if you are concerned with social distancing probably not a great idea. Overall I would suggest eating here just be aware that they have very limited seating that leaves for little space between tables.
Delicious and great service! Orders tacos, sushi, queso and churros...all outstanding! Atmosphere was fun.
