Meso Maya-West Plano
Chef Nico’s love for the culinary arts started at age nine, when he worked for a bakery, making deliveries and assisting in the kitchen in Mexico. Nico honed his skills at several restaurants throughout the country, in states such as Vera Cruz, where he learned about seafood, dried chilies, and making sauces from scratch, and Oaxaca, where he perfected tamale-making techniques. In 1996 he left Mexico for Dallas so he could pursue his goal of becoming a renowned chef. By traveling from state to state throughout Mexico, Chef Nico learned many of the culinary skills that patrons in the area enjoy every day. Chef Nico earned his reputation within the Dallas restaurant scene by working at Cuba Libre, The Porch, Hibiscus, and Meso Maya. His food is celebrated for its complexity, unique presentation, and fresh flavors (thanks, in part, to his love of gardening—he grows peppers, tomatoes, squash, and onions).

First visit. Much enjoyed. Great mango sangria and pineapple habanero margarita. We shared a Ceviche which was also very good. Our waiter was patient and helped me make my best best choice by allowing me to taste the mole poblano sauce. Loved it. Booth seating was private and safe. We will return.
Tough right now as the restaurants are understaffed, staff was doing the best they could.
My order was the easiest (tacos) but I had to wait the longest and the carne asada tacos were horrible. Too chewy/rubbery. Two others in my party ordered Budin Azteca and the potatoes were undercooked. It was not nearly as tasty as our waitress described it. The waitress was very accommodating and brought me a free soup even though I didn’t ask for it nor do I eat soup, so that was a waste of money on the restaurants behalf. It wouldn’t been nice if she just comped my meal or offered a free drink. No one in my party enjoyed their meals and the drinks were way overpriced for the amount of alcohol you get. It was like drinking syrup with ice and a splash of alcohol. Totally NOT worth your hard earned money. Will NOT be going back again.
Delicious, fabulous service from beginning to end, enjoyed absolutely everything!
First time here and will definitely be back. Everything we ordered was delicious! Be sure to try the chicharones. It’s a very yummy appetizer. Also enjoyed their chuletas and mango strawberry margarita. Great service as well!
Excellent food, excellent service. People were waiting but we were seated immediately because of our reservations. Service was excellent (Rhosa). We'll be back, and we'll reserve a table with Open Table every time.
Great service and great food.
Outstanding food, cocktails and customer service!!
We were a party of four. Two of our dinners were good and two were not good. When we told the server that we were disappointed with the dishes, the comment was “I am sorry to hear that”. We ate them anyway, but doubt that we will give it another try for a while.
Our waiter was great. Food was delicious. The mango sangria was excellent. We had a great time a d will definitely be back soon.
Creative menu choices and everything so fresh and delicious!
Under staffed for a Saturday- so we waited extra time to order. Food was great.
Fresh, delicious food. Amazing service even though it was very busy.
The food was delicious, the drinks were good and the service was great. We had a great meal!
Great food as always. Love the outdoor patio
Great prices. Delicious food. No up charge to sub sides. Happy hour!!
Isaac our server was wonderful!!! We had a lovely time.
Outstanding food and cocktails!
It was ok.. our chips were mainly crumbs and the steak quesadilla wasn’t the best cuts of steak.. it was tough and grisly. Not the best I’ve had here. Table was a little sticky, but other than that the ambience was ok. We were near a table with a baby and another loud table.
Amazing start to finish!
Food was good overall: queso appetizer, carne tacos, enchilada poblano. The service was interesting - while the waitress was really nice, she disappeared for long periods of time, and on multiple occasions tried to clear plates that we were still working on.
Went on a Friday eve, 6:30 and the restaurant was dead. We spent close to an hour there and it got busier, but not by much. I can’t say that there is a vibe of any kind here, there’s definitely a lack of energy. I’d consider going to another location if I go back. Sometimes it’s a management problem, not a staff problem.
Fabulous food and service! Love their Budin Azteca dishes.
Got in quickly at our reservation time. Service was fast and efficient. Sat outside and the tables were clean.
Margaritas were strong and the food was delicious. Will definitely go again.
Great food and atmosphere.
Good and drinks were great. Reminded my country! I do recommend Cochinita pibil ! Ceviche was also great!
Great experience, delicious food, and friendly service. We loved it!
We visited Meso Maya with a party of seven on a Thursday night. The food and drinks were great and came out very quickly. Our service was excellent, and we had a great time.
Salmon is great!
Biggest issue here was that the food was not all that great. I ordered the shrimp and crab enchiladas- SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DON’T ORDER THIS ONE! I literally had a thumbnail size piece of crab (and just one) in each enchilada. So truly not even a half of tablespoon of crab total. That’s ridiculous. Will not return even though atmosphere was great.
Had brunch and it did not disappoint!!!
I loved the carne asade, which happens to be the most popular dish at Meso Maya. I enjoyed being able to converse with those I sent there with. The waiter paid particular attention to us, giving us superb service. I will definitely be going there again and will be inviting my family and friends!
Great food, sat outside on porch. Lovely evening.
Service was great, food was great. All around great night.
Service way too slow. Bartender took too long and waiter was especially poor. I am not likely to return - this was second time with same issues.
Great atmosphere and food. Wonderful drinks
Great mexican food. Go for queso, Mexican martini, and carnitas tacos! You won’t be disappointed!!!
Server was awesome! Food was fantastic! We appreciate your service and will definitely be back
Great food and service!! Definitely I'll come back.
We’ve been here a few times, and this was by far the worst. Service was not good and food was slow. The manager did come to our table and apologized, so that was good.
Service was super slow. We were there for 2 hours and missed our next reservation for the evening. Also, food was not prepared and served as the menu description for any of our meals.
