At Merriman's, which first opened on the Big Island in 1988, that translates to updated Hawaiian classics like macadamia-crusted mahi mahi and taro falafel. The group blazed trails across four islands by 2018, and the latest Honolulu location stands out for its wild green-and-white floors and jungle prints.

I got the special the fish probably the best fish meal I’ve had in over 10 years. It was outstanding.

My friend's salmon was fine. I had the steak frites. They delayed my first order as they overcooked the steak. When the did bring my steak, the doneness (i ordered medium rare) was a little over done, but the steak itself was terrible. The taste was fair, but the steak itself was very tough. I had trouble even cutting it. I was up all last night from a headache from my jaw aching, and I didn't even finish the steak. About a month ago, I ordered the ribeye (a menu special that week) which was also terribly tough. I liked the restaurant, The service staff was polite, but slow (they were busy), the atmosphere pleasant although a little noisy. The menu is a little limited. However, I would recommend not to order any steak items, especially since they are the most expensive items on the menu. It seems inexcusable to have such tough steaks.

I had high hopes for Merriman’s, but unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the hype. The steak was overpowered by way too much peppercorn, and the green beans appetizer was just okay. The service was the highlight, they were so sweet and even sang happy birthday to my daughter, which meant a lot. But overall, for the price, I expected better. I won’t be dining here again.

Recommended Merriman’s to my childhood friends, one of which had never been there before, and we all loved it. Food and service were great. Definitely will be back.

Excellent food and great service. Kind of pricy but quality of food was great. Noise level was very high-need some noise bufferers for such a large place so you don’t have to yell across the table.

By far one of the greatest experiences from food to extremely exemplary service. We started with the tako escargot, then Mac nut covered fish and steak with frites. It was such an incredible experience we cancelled our Saturday dinner plans and came back for dinner. We come from big island and every time we come to Oahu, about seven or eight times a year, we eat at the merrimans. By far the best of the merrimans on the various islands. Thank you to Jackson for great service.
