Mercato Italian Kitchen & Bar is the latest concept and restaurant for Market Hospitality Group (MHG). The interior of the restaurant is comprised of iron and custom glass, reclaimed barn wood and inviting booths to complete the industrial yet rustic feel. Warmly greeted upon entry. Set us at type of seating I requested. Delivered food on a timely basis, it was warm and fresh. Right amount of customer care not over the top.

Despite a reservation, we had to wait thirty minutes to be seated. The manager stopped by once to tell us five or ten minutes but NEVER stopped at our table. It was two of our birthdays which I mentioned on the reservation and told our waitress but we did not even get a 'happy birthday'. Our bread for the table came after about ten minutes and our waters were never refilled until after the meal. The Rigatoni Bolognese had very little bolognese on it and the Caesar Salad which inexplicably has balsamic dressing on it was not good and should be avoided. The manager never came over. Epic fail and a terrible experience for our birthdays.

The food was beautifully presented, on time, and was delicious. Our server, Phoebe, was so friendly and efficient, very conscientious. Overall, an excellent dining experience.

From top to bottom we were disappointed. I work near the Shelton location and people rave so when my husband and I had an opportunity for a rare date night we opted for the southbury restaurant (near our home). We arrived and were met by what I assume was a hostess in her first day, she dropped the specials and ignored it, and brought us to a tight table for 2 even though I requested a better space (and they had them free) in my rese. Our server I also think must have been new. She couldn’t answer our questions about the menu and a knife in my husbands foot (thank goodness for boots) . The food was fine but wholly overcooked. The tomato and burrata stole the show… minus some blistered tomatoes you don’t cook that though, sooo it tracks. Cocktail was fine but nothing to write home about. Overall - and overpriced meal.

Great waitstaff. Delicious foods! We ordered dinner and dessert, everything was amazing! Try the fresh bread and olive oil dip.

The food and service were excellent. The noise level was high which is expected during a busy Friday night BUT I dont understand why they have to crank the music higher than the noise of customers and screaming children! Otherwise it was overall a good experience! The ricotta cake special was delicious!
