Executive Chef Michael Gulotta was named a 2016 Best New Chef by Food and Wine Magazine and Maypop was named a 2017 best new restaurant by New Orleans magazine as well as a 2017 peoples choice best new restaurant by Gambit Magazine.
The restaurant was tastefully done, very modern, with a great ambiance. The fusion between asian and southern is very evident. A lot more Thai in my opinion between the use of curry, coconut milk and spices. We sampled most of the dimsum & it was delicious, loved the calamari. We had the semifreddo for dessert and that was the highlight! Such a palate cleanser for all the different things that you’ve eaten. The chef provides an amuse bouche on their take of a fusion beignet & truffles at the end of your meal to sum it all up. This is a must try if you’re visiting New Orleans!
The food was beautiful and our server was efficient and sweet.
So good! Refreshing and delicious, it’s now on my favorite restaurant list in New Orleans !
Very delightful experience!!
I’ve been here multiple times since they opened and every visit is outstanding. The menu is constantly being updated with fresh, unique dishes accented with many special items that are created in-house and sourced locally. The service is always on point - you can feel that everyone who works here enjoys their job; they do their best to make guests feel as comfortable as possible. Even when it’s been extraordinarily busy, all of the staff are smiling and patient. I’ll be back again and again!!!
Maypop never disappoints! Everything we had was delicious.
What an awesome happy hour menu! Everything has great spice and flavor. Menu is eclectic but so yummy. Highly recommend the spicy steam bun and s’mores dessert.
Superb, inventive food and cocktails, good wine selection.
Birthday celebration with my sister. Wonderful waiter and amazing food. Will definitely be back!
I had a lovely dinner early on a Monday evening with two colleagues from work and a visitor from out of town. The menu was diverse enough that we all found exciting options, and my colleague was delighted to discover that one of his favorite wines was available with a very minimal mark-up over retail. My only complaint is that we waited a very long time for our cocktails when the bar did not appear to be at all busy, but once they were served everything else came along in a timely manner. Our server was excellent, made great recommendations and knew the menu backwards and forwards. I will definitely be back soon!
I found the menu to be limited, but overall the experience was great.
I found Maypop to be a little overrated. The food was interesting - we love fusion foods but the sauces seemed a bit over salted and/or over sweetened. We tried one of everything on the dim sum menu. The soup dumplings did not have soup in them. They were tasty but when poked open, they did not have soup inside like we'd expect from traditional soup dumplings. The sesame balls were very yummy. We did not get the baos because the steamer broke? but i feel a kitchen should be able to improvise how to steam something, especially since they were not that busy at the time. They did however more than make up for it with comp desserts which were delicious. I would still recommend this restaurant because the service and atmosphere were impeccable and the food is interesting with neat flavor combinations.
Best fried oysters of our lives. Such an amazing fusion of so many styles and flavors. Eat here!
Innovative menu, and every app and entree simply delicious. Desserts, too, unique and memorable (in a good way). Excellent service and fun ambience. We’ll be back on next trip to NOLA.
Food was good and too noisy for me
Splendid food, perfect service well done!
I wanted to love this place but didn't. The ingredients were fresh and of high quality. I did not feel the fusion aspect of the food was well executed. To me, it was not Vietnamese nor New Orleans fare. We had good food but it didn't excite me. I won't be back.
Very nice and friendly and young staff. Modern decor which is welcoming.
The menu is limited to a few appetizers, noodles and entrees.
The oyster appetizer is expensive at $15 for 6 small fried oysters. There just fried oysters with cheese on them and they weren’t fried that great.
The gumbo was hardy, unique and tasty. A nice surprise.
The grilled gulf fish with pumpkin and beans was ok. Nothing that I’d get again. I didn’t expect tuna to be served when it was labeled “gulf fish”. You’d think if it was tuna they’d say “tuna”. I’ve had much better tuna every where else I’ve gotten it.
The fresh pasta with shrimp was ok. Maybe a bit too much shrimp flavor on the pasta.
The dessert menu was not interesting.
It’s a nice place, but I wouldn’t go back and I wouldn’t recommend it. There are too many other places that deserve a try for the same money or less.
The food was amazing; however, very small portions. My husband and I ordered two appetizers and each ordered an entree and we were still hungry (we are normal size eaters). For the price you pay I expect not to leave hungry. The service was super slow, our drinks took approx 15 min to arrive, waiter just apologized, and then took even longer to get our second round of drinks later. Food is great, but won't be back for other reasons listed above.
Loved this restaurant. The food was delicious and the presentation was great. The service was excellent and the decor was cool. Definitely recommend!
Every bite was fantastic.
Amazing food and experience. One of the two best restaurants in New Orleans
Wonderful! The waiter and chef were very accommodating with our request for vegetarian menu items. Everything was delicious!
The cuisine and service was amazing! New favorite spot for downtown dining!
Salad too soggy. Lettuce was so bad I could not finish it. Menu not my type. My kids would like it .
A Beautiful discovery in NOLA, recommanded to everyone
Connubio di sapori molto interessante. È un posto che consiglierei!
Had read rave reviews of this place...was pretty disappointed. Service was glacial. Our server looked like he was dragged in off the street, kept disappearing for large swaths of time, and kept blaming he kitchen for the issues( never a good sign). It took 45 minutes to get just our 2 main courses on a night when the restaurant was 1/3 full. Had to complain to the manager...in her defense, she did comp our drinks and dessert, but only because we were about to get up and leave. As far as the food goes, the best item we had were the fried oysters, which were phenomenal. The desserts were also quite good. The starters we had as well as the mains were a bit average and without a lot of flavor. Not sure why this is considered an asian inspired menu, there was nothing asian about it. Honestly there are SO many other tops restaurants to try, give this one a pass...unless you want to pop in for the fried oysters and a dessert.
Great very creative menu! We were two couples and each ordered something different and loved everything! Amazing food!
Limited menu but always creative. Love the Casian (Cajun/Asian) fusion!
The food was terrific!
This place is very underrated. It was delicious!
Food was subpar- particularly for the price.
Garganelli and Bibb salad are the best. Best pasta dish I have ever eaten. Absolutely divine.
Great staff, great atmosphere! The food options are also super unique. We had the quail and it was impressive!
Delicious. Perfectly balanced, unique flavors.
this is the kind of restaurant you want to find after a lifetime of trying great restaurants. the food is a revelation, has clarity but most importantly simply taste great. truly memorable dinner
Food was wonderful.
