This once fantastic restaurant has lost its luster with mediocre service and uninspiring food. There are good options in town that are better money spent where the food is memorable and the service delightful. Go elsewhere.
We had a wonderful time - wait staff was very attentive the food was good although they gave us mini muffins at the end of our meal and we ordered coffees to go with it - I think they charged us for the muffins in the end which doesn't seem right. I'd go again though, and highly recommend the restaurant but you need reservations!!
Good food, good service. A bit pricey for lunch.
The food was just okay. The noise level was too high.
Excellent food, excellent service! The only problem was that they were out of their chicken pot pies. The salmon was excellent and the ribs were tasty! I would highly recommend this restaurant to friends.
Service was shabby
Love the summer barbecue series!
Always s very nice dining experience. Delicious food, great service, but too noisy.
After ordering, we waited over 40 minutes and our food still hadn't arrived. We asked the waiter to check on our order, only to find out they had "lost" our order. They apologized and within 10 minutes our food arrived. We had to eat as quickly as possible in order to make it to a concert on time. Not an enjoyable dining experience. Won't be returning.
The last time we went to Mayfield Bakery and Cafe, we requested a table outside but had to eat inside where it was VERY noisy and difficult to have a conversation. This time when I made the reservation, I requested a table outside under the oaks. This time we got one, and it was much more pleasant, with conversation possible.
My one complaint about food was the French toast which tasted good, but it was very hard to cut through the crust. I should have asked for a steak knife.
They were OUT OF nearly everything on the menu! How can that happen at 6pm on a Friday?
Great food! Quick to get seated and no hassle.
I've been here several times and always found the food to be flavorful and creative. This time it was disappointing. The heirloom tomatoes were not 100% ripe--and they really ought to be spectacularly ripe to justify serving a whole plate of them. The steak preparation was so-so; I ordered medium-rare and it came out medium; and serving it on an underseasoned bed of cucumbers really didn't work.
The young host and hostess are not professional and rude! The server is just ok and doesn’t really make much eye contact. However the food is good
I always go here for breakfast on the last morning I visit family in Palo Alto. The food is spot on. The ambiance both inside and outside are relaxed. Patio is dog friendly.
Attentive service but they would interrupt conversation without excuse. The old fashion cocktail was well made.
I had a Caesar salad with salmon. The salmon was good; the salad was mediocre --- not enough lemon, not enough garlic, too little shaved parmesan cheese. The meal didn't live up to the price. With a glass of wine and a tip, my meal came to $50!
The Service was fantastic. Ambiance was wonderful. The Food was OK (the eggs, bacon and potatoes were great) but there were some serious misses. The fruit plate had some moldy berries and the apple ( why an apple on afresh fruit plate in July in California ?) was a touch mushy.
The toast was hard.
Maybe I hit the kitchen on a bad day?
We always loved going to Mayfield’s but with kids it’s not been as frequent. It’s been several months and we haven’t gone for summer in a long time but things felt a tiny bit different.
The bread did not seem like it’s usual fresh baked bread. The fries were prepared differently- like different ingredients and not the same quality as previous. Lastly, the changed the way we pay. The waiter stands there with a device in his hand watching and waiting for you to calculate tip and sign. That was strange. I wanted to tip more because we had a few free items but it felt strange having him there while I did mental math.
Otherwise the waiter was great as they usually have been. It wasn’t anything he did. I think it’s just the design of having somebody with a handheld device. I suppose it’s quicker than waiting for them to bring the bill. We will still keep going but we hope those little items were just that day.
I think things have dropped in quality a bit since I started eating here. It’s also quite loud in the restaurant.
Noisy. Food OK.
Love their menu. I like that their menu is not like anyone else's. The staff is so friendly. They are attentive without being overbearing. The food tastes wonderful and fresh.
This place has excellent service and a menu the caters to all tastes. I had the blackened salmon and it had just the right amount of seasoning. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs and he said the meatballs were the best he has ever had: a little bit of red pepper flakes to liven things up, and the pasta was cooked al dente perfectly.
Prices are very reasonable and portions are adequate - 3 meatballs was a nice touch as I got to eat one of them.
We had horrible service that was incredibly slow for basic brunch items that we ordered.
Front desk not welcoming.. and not honest about the seats. Why is it so hard to give tables when they are available and not ok to treat customers differently.
Always have mixed feelings coming in.
Used to be my most favorite go to brunch place on Palo Alto.
-We noticed 2 additional charges on bill, one was for employees (cover benefits), we wish restaurants would
Make it known beforehand on menu. Not a big deal, now we know. . Also waiter asked if my husband wanted toast so he assumed his eggs came with it...another $5.00 on Bill so total of $8.00 extra. Being that the food is a little pricey (I.e omelette $18. And coffee $4), just have to be aware.
-We had a crying little girl next to us outside the entire time we were there. Not the fault of the restaurant, parent or grandparent did nothing about it . Several people looked frustrated with the ongoing sobbing/whining. We left sooner than expected : / disappointed.
- We really like the mayfield bakery so we will return.
Clean, nice staff, delicious choices.
Would have preferred to eat inside but it was so loud we had to ask to sit outside. Outside was great until some very loud music came on. We asked if they could turn it down but it was still loud. Maybe we were near speakers.
Hamburger was well done when we ordered med-rare.
Fried chicken sandwich was good
The manager is wonderful-very competent and super willing to address any problems.
My only dislike is that the restaurant is much too noisy
Great outdoor brunch -- server placed a space heater near us to ensure we were comfortable in the shade.
Inattentive service with lackluster food.
Most expensive uninteresting food on the Peninsula.
Way out of line....
Everything was fresh, luscious, and delicious.
The place was overpriced for the the casual atmosphere and food quality. Good serving sizes, very capable waiters. The pizza was saggy, you could not lift a slice, the cheese slid down, the dough all wet. The tomatoes in the caprese salad were overly soft; we paid an additional $6 for a microscopic piece of burrata cheese. The cream of corn soup was thick and way too sweet, it was like having a dessert but the kernels were intact, it needed blending! The barbeque prawns were really good together with the sour dough bread. The best part of the meal was the chocolate melted cheese cookie. I would go back just for coffee and dessert.
Nice breakfast /lunch menu with tasty standard dishes done with a bit of flare. Service is very friendly and the ambience is pleasant and comfortable. The pancakes with berries were good but the avocado toast was not as tasty as I've had elsewhere. They offer the Impossible Burger. Frankly, if you want meat, just eat meat. Vegetarian food should take like delicious vegetables or legumes, and not try to be "meat". The restaurant is in a convenient location with a reasonable amount of free parking. We've had amazing breakfast food at many restaurants in the area and while the food is fine, it's not the best we've had. We go because the location and overall experience is perfectly fine for a weekend meal.
Several of the dishes were not hot, and were barely warm when served.
I had spagetti and meatballs. Warm, not hot. The meatballs were very good, the sauce was ok.
I remembered in the past that you had trumer pilsner on tap, which isn't the case now, but it's possible my memory is wrong.
Great locaation, great oak tree outside, make the food better, please.
We went there for Saturday brunch. Service is good and attentive. Just that the menu is limited and the food is a bit on the salty side. I also bought some pastries from the bakery which I think they are a bit too sweet.
Food was disappointing. Pizza was soggy, for example
On a Friday night we had the chance to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. The margaritas were excellent and light.I had the corn soup which was good but a little overpriced at $15. Watch out! The croutons served on top are quite spicy! The Waldorf salad is delicious and generous which at $24 should be . We had a wonderful server by the name of Diego.
At the end of the evening once I got home I took a look at the bill and there was an issue, however Nolis took care of it. I appreciated her time and attention to my query. Mayfield is a beautiful spot with excellent food. Tip-They need to watch their details in charges and prices.
Great food (as always) - overall good service.
