MAX's Wine Dive Houston - Washington Ave. Ratings and Reviews
Have always heard great things about the food at Maxs. Food quality was average with a few dishes we ordered far less than average. Tables are WAY too close together to enjoy a dinner with just YOUR friends. Music has to be extremely loud to cover the noise of other tables next to you and the kitchen so close to the dining area. Average experience at best. Plenty of other Houston eateries for this food quality. HIGHLY Doubt we would return. P.S. Bring back the drunken bread.
It was my birthday it was listed in my reservation but was never acknowledged I guess they were too busy . Our sides came out cold fries were extra greasy. The manager was our waitress nothing was acknowledged about the cold food another waiter assisted so I guess how they resolve issues
Went for dinner with my teen-age daughter before seeing a play downtown. The service was prompt and friendly and they kept us on schedule. The fried oyster appetizer was amazing!! The place was packed even at 6:30pm. The music was great. I really have nothing negative to say - it was perfect! I'll definitely be back with my husband!
I’ve been to this location before, back when the red velvet pancakes were popular, along with the fried chicken entree. However, on this visit I was very disappointed, not only with my food but with my service. I know it was busy but our waitress barely checked on us and when she did, it was in passing. My food surprisingly was disappointing and I didn’t get the chance to send it back or get something different. It was a waste of $20 (tax added). I will not give up on Max’s, but I will try the other location.
We had only been once before and while not bad, had not been back in awhile. I am really not fond of the narrow layout in a strip center. If you are a 2 top, there are only small high top tables sandwiched between the bar and the line of larger tables along the wall.
That being said, on this visit, the food, wine, & service were all great.
Valet Parking is gone so I will be back much sooner after this visit.
Food was great as was the wine - we went during happy hour and had the fried chicken for dinner!! Our waitress was wonderful - helped us out to get cash to tip the valet. That is the only negative for the location...forced to valet when the spots are right there. The valet just gave us the key as we parked right by the door. Why do so many places in Houston do this ridiculous “complimentary” valet?! So many people don’t carry cash. Valet is totally appreciated when there are limited parking or the lot is far away, but not the case here.
Disappointing experience. I would have preferred not to have been seated at the bar despite the restaurant being 2/3 empty. I witnessed an attitude problem among the wait staff which was not properly resolved by management during my time in the restaurant. Despite my disdain for unnecessary people touching my car I was forced to use their valet parking. As for the food: I spent thirty dollars for three pieces of fried chicken and a glass of beer. The food tasted alright. The beer was cold. Not good value for the money. When a restaurant disappoints me I do not return.
Frequent diner here but this trip was disappointing, the restaurant was busy, but the music pushed the noise level over the top and actually made dining unpleasant. We asked for a "low table" and were denied although there were empty low tables throughout our meal. I think I will give the restaurant a break and enjoy the many other local options instead.
