The boozy shakes were great, but the food was not hot and the sides were not great. Heard multiple other people complaining about food quality, temperature. There is a lot of better barbecue in the area.
Super good food
We were visiting Durham and looking for BBQ. We found this place on open table but when we got there it was really fast casual - not a problem at all. We over-ordered (highly recommended) and everything we ate was delicious. Cravable-delicious. Even great local beers! There was a small staff probably because of Covid but food came out reasonable fast and like I said it was delicious. I would go back again for sure.
Very good food. Was a bit load but it didn’t bother us at all. :)
Try the chili... it’s amazing!! Loved every single thing we ate!!
This was so disappointing!!!! Do not go here. The food is horrible. Loud rap music playing. The wine was bad. There were two other tables of folks in the restaurant on Friday night!
Second time there. First time was great. Good food. This time was awful! The food was bad the service was ok. Got order wrong.
The portion size of the barbecue and the brisket was slim but tasty. The mac and cheese was dry and the sweet potato fries were just ok. I would still go back.
First time at Maverick's and the food and service were excellent! Would definitely recommend if you want to go to a great smokehouse. Prices were reasonable and platters were easily shareable between two people. Make sure to order extra huspuppies because meals only come with three.
Went there to grab a quick dinner and it was so good. Service and food were fantastic, and one of the better frozen margaritas I’ve had in a while. Highly recommend checking it out.
Service spotty and slow, food nothing special, not great not bad, best described as ordinary stuff. Waited too long on slow night for order taking, food delivery and water refills. Fries greasy but bourbon beans very good. Memphis ribs best choice, chicken and cue fair and unremarkable. Prices very reasonable
The food was pretty good but still quite comparable to other BBQ places. The service was not the best. We ordered some margaritas that were WAY sweet and sour and instead of offering to fix our drinks or bring us something different, the bartender chalked it up to the mix.
We heard great things about this place and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately it was not a good night for the staff as they where short. Our waiter had lost his voice and from what we could u derstand- he was needed to work as a waiter so not sure what his original position is but hoping it is not as an asst manager because his service and responses to our problems where NOT customer friendly at all. We placed our orders and waited 40 minutes only to be told they were out of several things we had ordered- like Mac n cheese! He blamed it on catering and a big wedding that day. After we selected our substitutions we waited another 30 mins. Although the food was ok, some items where cold or had been sitting around. Totally disappointed in the waiter as he made no attempt to correct how our meal went. A simple offer of a Comp dessert or partial Comp of a meal that was still brought out wrong and missing items that we had to select a second time is just unforgivable. We will not make an effort to come here again as it is obvious that management is not watching out for their customers. This is just my honest opinion and so dissapointed because this was also a special night for our son who is graduating and we had a surprise that was delayed due to this meal.
Drove from Raleigh specifically for the smoked wings which they were out of by 630 on a Saturday night. Also out of the smoked sausage which apparently is one of the favorites. Food slow to come out even though restaurant was not very busy nothing we had was particularly delicious.
We have been to Mavericks twice on trips to Durham. We love their smoked wings, beef brisket, gruyere mac and cheese, hush puppies and extensive draft beer offerings. The service is good, and we especially love the ambiance when the large doors are open.
Our waitress was very nice but inattentive. Food was very good.
Had a great meal. Quick, friendly service. Good value. Will be back.
Food was terrible, will not go back
Cole slaw was1/4 ate,
chili was not even fixable with sour cream or barbecue sauce 1/3 ate
Deviled eggs were sour to much vinegar ate 2
Bourbon baked beans just as good as out of a can 1/4 ate
Memphis ribs were very tough and way to much seasoning 1/2 rack was ate
Service was slow, but my waiter also had a table of 16
Paid at the bar, wasn't going to wait for 3 girls folding silverware and napkin.
I lived in memphis and i have eaten bbq in many states south and north.
They do offer bbg and sauce from north and vinegar for south.
Been to four other barbeque places in the Triangle and this was the best.
Apparently they had a 2000.00 order that they accepted and they could not handle. Peple walked out. Our order and meal took an.hour. wish they did not accept our reservation when they new they could not handle. No discount. No owner or manager appology. No warning. Just unproffessional.
Terrible. Zero organization or management. After being seated we waited for 20 minutes while multiple wait staff asked us if we had been taken care of. Finally got a waiter. Ordered and were told food was running behind and it would be 20 minutes or so. 20 minutes went by and we asked if our drinks were coming. Were told that drinks were tied to the food order. Made no sense. Another 20 minutes go by and we asked where our food was. Told it would be another 10-20 minutes. Asked for the bill for the drinks as we were not going to wait that much longer. The waiter went away and appeared 2 minutes later with the food. And it was cold. Stay away.
Nothing about this place was stellar, I'll be honest. We arrived and gave them our name and they said "uh we don't see the reservation but we'll seat you" - but they didn't even seem to look. Then they said with a broad wave of a hand "you can have that table" as they swept past 4 empty tables a few feet away. So we just sat down at one and they looked over and seemed confused "oh you want that table ok." - What?? Our waiter was ok, the food was ok, but we weren't overly impressed. The food did come out quickly, and I'll give a plug for the Okra that it was delicious and perfectly salted, and the pork bbq was good. I felt like the mac and cheese and particularly the bun of my sandwich could've been alot better. We happened to leave something there when we left, I called multiple times to see if I could come and pick it up, but each time I called I was told "oh your waiter already left so call tomorrow", "oh i was your waiter we don't have it", "no one that was working at that time is here call back later", and then without hesitation "nope we don't have it". Very frustrating that they don't have a place where they put things that are left, and that it took me almost 24 hours of calling to get so many different answers. The actual meat was good, the other food was fine, but the general lack of customer service was disappointing.
Great for a first date. There were a few other restaurants in the area however, the reviews for Mavericks gave me confidence to set an appointment. Awesome experience!
Great food, wonderful ambiance. Want to go back soon.
Excellent new spot in Durham. Very convenient for a pre-concert or show meal and easy access to DPAC. Excellent local beer selection that matches well with the barbecue.
Just stay away. Save your money and your taste buds.
Great BBQ and service! The hush puppies were amazing!
Great Birthday celebration. The wings were everything. Just amazing!! The servers were very attentive. Great place!!
Exceptionally good brisket and fun atmosphere. Will return!
Overall the food was tasty but served cold with the exception of the sweet potato fries and hushpuppies. There seemed to be serious communication issues between the wait staff and kitchen. On a night when they were not that busy we waited over 30 minutes for our food and it was served cold. The waitress indicated she was going to bring us hot bbq which should have taken 2 minutes from the kitchen. Instead we waited another 30 minutes. The chef brought out bbq with sides we didn't order and apologized but said he was the only one in the kitchen. The place has great potential but the manager really needed to put away his laptop (yes we could see you on the patio) take care of us and support the wait and kitchen staff as they were clearly frustrated and under staffed.
I brought my husband for his birthday. We love smoked meats and the authentic smokehouse is hard to find. The brisket was perfect, the smoked wings were crispy, smoky and sweet, the meat quality was top notch. The service was friendly and helpful and the location is great. We'll definitely be back.
Terribly disappointed. Ordered the 2 meat plate. Chicken was great but the brisket was cold. Green beans were good but macaroni was cold. Best part of the meal - hush puppies.
Prompt service, friendly, and great food.
We made a reservation for Monday evening and walked over to celebrate our son's birthday (he wanted BBQ), but found out that they are closed on Mondays... I'm not sure why they accept reservations when they are closed, but it was a pretty poor experience.
The barbecue was excellent and the sides were exactly what you would want and expect. We found the service to be a bit slow for drinks considering the sparsity of other patrons when we were there. The food came very quickly.
Enjoyed eating outside on a great spring evening. We each tried bbq from a different region and they were all good.
Great meals. We all had something different and shared. Everything was delicious. But the best was the banana pudding . Be sure to get one. But plan on nit sharing it.
I can’t speak to the food, because we never got that far. The service was atrocious. We had a reservation, arrived on time, and waited for 10 minutes, while the 2 servers completely ignored us, walking past many times without a word. There were only 2 tables with people. When a server finally came to see us, he was extremely rude. We left at that point. There are too many good restaurants in Durham to waste our time.
Best brisket in town!!
We made a reservation for 6pm and arrived at our scheduled time. We were seated by the hostess, ordered drinks from our waitress, looked over the menu and finally decided on our choices.
It was our second time there having come back because our boys craved the ribs that Mavericks is known for.
My son ordered the ribs only to be told that they don’t have any. The oven (or smoker) was not functioning and we were told they may have some around 9 or later.
Now I understand things happen, but we certainly could have been told no ribs were available when the reservation was made, or when the hostess seated us, or when the waitress took our drink order. I mean this IS a BBQ place!
We paid for our drinks and headed to The Pit instead. They had ribs.
