Matt's Stock Island Kitchen & Bar at The Perry Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Great setting with tropical waterfront, upscale look and attentive service. Creative menu featuring local seafood with daily specials. The shrimp ceviche, crab beignet, grilled cobia and corn salad are standouts. Well worth the drive from Key West. We'll be back for lunch just to see the view in the daylight!
This is a tough one. Bar none the best food in Key West coupled with the worst service. Took forever to get our food and there was no communication. I guess the server knew she had a built in tip, so why should she care. 3 hour meals usually involve at least 5 courses. We started asking random workers about our food. When it finally came out it was delicious. They offered us dessert on them to make up for the ridiculous delay. Sounded nice, until that too took forever and they put $3 on the bill for everyone who decided to take part in the ‘comped’ dessert. Dessert took forever too. And the automatic 20% tip for lousy service was equally ridiculous. If they can get service together, it will be great. If not, be prepared to wait a long time while being ignored.
We booked for a nice, sunny breakfast, as we were waiting for a car repair. The hostess was friendly and accommodating, The cafe was busy'ish with hotel guests. Our server was pleasant but way too chatty, the chef was off that morning and you could tell. The huevos rancheros were excellent but the breakfast scramble was dry and stuck to the pan after being left in the oven for way too long. Both our coffees were very milky but we did get another espresso to try and fix them but still not enough oomph. The place is very nicely designed and looks great but has one massive flaw. The indoor AC ducts are loud and basically there to extract the heat from the open kitchen, unfortunately they are directed at the diners which makes for a chilly experience , i did point it out but not well received, Anyway next time we would sit outside which has a great view of the marina.
We just had a fabulous Christmas day dinner at Matt’s. The citrus bacon vin salad dressing was to die for. Our server John was amazing. He was attentive and able to answer ever question we had. Another server Debra was super friendly as well. We will be back Wednesday or Thursday night again this week. You must stop here if you are in town.
Since we had an exceptional experience for Thanksgiving Dinner, it was an easy decision to attend the Christmas Dinner. We were seated immediately and were warmly greeted. I am so sorry to say the service was really unacceptable. Our server neglected us and our table during the entire meal. Our server appeared to be 'brand new' and he had far, far too many tables to take care of. Our server spent more time cleaning up broken dishes the entire evening and he was visibly upset about his accidents. On the other hand, the FOOD WAS QUITE WONDERFUL. The Chef is creative and the quality of ingredients appear to be very high. We enjoyed the food very very much. We will not be attending the New Year's dinner for fear there will be more experimentation with the wait staff. We will be patient and hope that, as time passes, they will have more choices for better servers or perhaps they will have time to properly train the existing staff. We understand the strain Key West is working through with lack of housing for staff of all levels. Since we love the ambiance & we love the food, we will try again in 4-6 months!
We came for Christmas dinner, which was an advertised prix fixe menu. We were seated promptly and then forgotten about...literally...for 20 minutes. The waitress apparently assigned to our table must have seen us sitting there, because after 20 minutes she came over and apologized for forgetting about us. She was very nice and got drinks quickly.
The food was good...not amazing, but good. I would order it again. It included a soup and salad, bread, prime rib, ham, three family-style sides, and a dessert sampler for two. It was more than enough food and priced correctly ($40 each, minimum 2).
Atmosphere was nice, we sat outside.
Matt's has a first rate menu with plenty of variety including a sizable wine and beer list. Currently they provide a great alternative to fine dining at some of the other well established Key West restaurants and will soon make a name of their own as more people try it out. Prices are competitive for the area and certainly a better value for the high quality of food they serve.
My family and I had a wonderful dinner there. We sat outside and had a beautiful view of the marina. The shrimp was delicious as well as the grouper. Steak was also ordered and enjoyed as well as the candy bar dessert!! Special drinks were also whipped up!
Afterwards, we enjoyed after dinner drinks by the fire pit!
A great experience!
I would recommend it!!
Went for their Thanksgiving fix prix menu ($40). Based on reviews and their menu, I thought this wold be very special. It was not! The service was terrible, we were seated promptly as we had made reservations. We were seated approx. 10 minutes before someone came and took our drink order. Still, I had high hopes for the meal and was pleasantly surprised when they brought out the family style salad bowl which was adequate for the 3 of us. The salad was very good and the entire table was impressed. After finishing the salad the table was cleared and we waited another ~15 minutes without anyone coming by to ask how we were doing. The main course was very disappointing; Turkey and ham was served to each person on small dinner plates and sides consisted of collared greens, stuffing and mashed potatoes were brought out in 1 cup ramekins to be shared by the entire table. The meat was covered in a very sweet gravy and was luke warm as were the sides. The food quality was mediocre at best. During the entire meal no-one stopped by to as how we were doing. After finishing the main course the table was cleared promptly however, we waited ~20 minutes before dessert came during this time no-one came by to see if we wanted anything. Dessert came and consisted of two pieces of pie (key lime and Pumpkin) and two cookies with melted marshmellow and chocolate on the side (there version of scores) which fell flat. If any of this was homemade I would recommend they hire someone who knows how to bake because non of the desserts were very good. We live here in the keys and were very hopeful that this place would be a place we could come for a special meal. Based on this experience I will not be back given the poor level of service and quality of food. This was diffidently a let down on this very special day.
We had better food and service on previously visits. Took 45 minutes to get an appetizer. Burger and fries were dry and overcooked. "Chowder" was way too salty. After saying we didn't want dessert, it took an additional 30 minutes for our server to give us our check, pay, and leave.
Our second time at Matt's. First time was with overly lit dockside dining, good food and service. Second time we knew enough not to sit dockside and ate poolside which was much better, the under staffed wait staff was clearly in the weeds and many simple requests were left undone. ( ice, menus). The food was good and our table had a good time anyway. This Sunday we will try brunch with out of town guests hope the service is better.
We are local and had not tried this new spot but got a babysitter and decided to give it a shot. We were happy to enjoy creative, unique food so close to our home on Big Coppitt, and were impressed by the sleek atmosphere and excellent service. We ordered too much food but really enjoyed the crab beignets and cornbread mash.
The restaurant is inside the Perry Hotel. The outside/inside of the Hotel is beautifully done. But keep in mind that Stock Island is still an industrial area and marina. Parking for the hotel is off to the side. First, the food was great and so was the service. The bartender Seth is a bit standoffish but knows his stuff. Could be a bit more customer friendly. We had a lovely hostess and a great server, John. So the whole dining experience was great.
The only issue I had, ladies keep this in mind, was I wore wedges with a lift. So on my way back I met a bit of fate with the parking area. See, the parking spots are in a bed of rocks, the rocks spill out into the paved roadway, no side walks, etc. So walking back to my parking spot at night, I stepped on a wayward rock throwing me off balance causing me to fall. So I recommend you either do not wear heels, watch where your feet are going, get dropped off at the entry or have an arm to hang onto. It is not heels friendly. But that isn't stopping me from visiting again.
