We were running late for our reservation and called the restaurant only to find out they don't receive reservations from Open table. Why are they even on here? The food was awful. I ordered sliders. Instead of a bun, they made some sort of dough and cut it out. It tasted like canned pizza dough. My husband had the Flatbread which was on the same gross dough. On top of that, they had a DJ set up and blasted rap music. We left without even finisher drinks. Stay away from this place.
Not what you are expecting. More of a cheap bar ambiance than what one might expect of a "Wine Cellar". They did not honor our open table reservation. "Yeah, we don't really do reservations." Most expensive wine is $10. They must have ran out of pork shoulder because my Cuban slider came with deli ham without forewarning, explanation or price adjustment. They seem content with their current clientele so as not to need to put the effort into earning new business.
Apparently used to be better? More specials, better food and service. It’s a shame. Could be a good spot. I’ve never been to a wine bar that doesn’t have wine flights and serves food and drinks with plastic. The bingo was fun, but I believe I’ll go elsewhere in the future.
Our server Kelly worked very hard to make sure that we were taken care of!
Matthews Wine Cellar provides a delightful and enjoyable casual dining experience in downtown Matthews. They have recently expanded but still maintain a cozy, neighborhood ambiance.
We really enjoyed sitting on their lovely patio on a recent spring evening. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The patio is also dog friendly.
The wine, beer and mixed drink options are varied and reasonably priced. The appetizers, including daily specials, complimented the beverages.
Live music is available on the weekend.
We are looking forward to returning soon!
Came on a week night to avoid crowds and to try something new. When I arrived it wasn't crowded and there is plenty of parking in the shared spaces all around the building. They offer indoor and outdoor seating with heating laps if your outside. It's a nice cozy spot near small shops, a library, etc. I was greeted immediately upon entering. I had a reservation, but you don't need it. When you come in you can sit wherever you desire or a spot that's available. We didn't have one dedicated waiter, but several people coming around to do different things. No one shared their name with us. Despite the state mask mandate one employee had on a mask. They have wine tasting on Tuesday and Thursday so my friend and I gave it a try. They change the selection regularly we were told. The wine tasting is right up my alley. The wine enthusiast was super excited about the wine he was selling. He seemed knowledgeable, but a bit out of it. The quesadilla I ordered was burnt on the inside and the cook just flipped it over and still served it as if I wouldn't taste it and it wouldn't impact the texture or flavors. No one checked on us while we are, maybe because their was no assigned waiter. The crowd picked up prior to my departure and getting someone to pick up the check or give you the check was a task. I don't know if I will return. It was a nice spot and a great staple to the community, but there was nothing great that stood out or that made it special. I wish they had one person to help us and stayed with us to make the experience better and they threw out the food that they burned instead of serving it to us.
I absolutely love this place, will be back very soon!!
Great Band Playing- Not too loud- great songs. Food was good. Good Service
Live music was a blast! Everyone was dancing including us and the charcuterie board was generous and colorful:) Haven't had that much fun on a date in a long time. Thanks, Matthews!
