Mastro's Steakhouse - Thousand Oaks Ratings and Reviews
I want to love Matro's but I don't. It's far too noisy and our waiter was seldom seen (albeit very nice). The prices are ridiculous and honestly, don't really seem to match the quality of the food. For those prices, I'd like a far more intimate and attentive experience.
We were celebrating a family success so we wanted a special place and Mastros fit the bill. Steaks were amazing and we shared the profiteroles for desert which was perfect. Wish the had some options for children, we had our 8 year old granddaughter with us.
I made the reservation on Open Table with a request for a round table if possible- not only did they honor my request but they set us up in one of the semiprivate rooms. It was a great birthday night celebration for my wife and the 8’of us. Food, service and ambiance was perfect - definitely worth the price and the Butter cake is killer!
The worst steak I've ever had. I ordered the rib-eye and it was super tough!!! I've been to several steakhouses and I had fantastic experiences and some of the best steaks ever! The side dishes weren't anything to rave about, but they weren't awful (baked potato and chopped salad). The thing about it was the lemon drop martini. For this to be a steakhouse, I would have expected the steak to be the featured menu item, not the libation. I had high expectations for Mastros, and since this was a special occasion, I was stoked that this was going to be superb! Super disappointed and won't be returning.
For the price that they change, I would like to see that the fish is wild caught (not farm raised), and have at least a couple of small vegetables, even if it's a couple of small slices of zucchini, served with the food! The steaks, the fish, the chicken...they all look so lonely and plain on the huge plate :)
The sides are huge but we weren't crazy about their tastes. The sweet potato fries didn't taste like sweet potatoes (they seemed very light in color too), and the onion rings were just way too oily. There was so much oil at the bottom of the plate. Disappointing!
The sea bass and the filet mignon tasted above average. The chocolate cake was a bit too sweet.
Our waiter and the busboys were very nice and helpful. Although, I think our waiter had a cold because he kept sniffling!!!
I had eaten at Mastro's in Las Vegas and Beverly hills and had better experiences.
Normally we have a great time at this location, but this time was terrible. Staff was constantly standing by our table and conversing, they rushed us out of the restaurant when we were almost done, and our waiter was less than stellar. Don't know if we will be back.....
I’m a regular, couple things bit off this evening. Meal (bone-in NY, mashed potatoes, creamed corn) was luke warm, if it hadn’t taken so long I would have sent back. Marrow very sparse for cost & butter cake usually top notch but was over cooked & dry this time. Very friendly server but we lost her as it became busier. Had to stop another server to take care of bill. Love bar but the minute live music trios start up, always WAY too loud, tends to be more disruptive than enjoyable because of extreme volume....always too loud, no matter what day or what trio.
My dinner was outstanding from start to finish. All of the food entrees were great including the bread basket (awesome pretzel rolls), lobster bisque, filet mignon and tempura-battered lobster tail (special request), and tasty sides including creamed corn and regular-cut French fries. Lastly, the signature butter cake is one of the best desserts anywhere. The entire staff was friendly and even swift making sure we would be finished, with time to spare, for a musical show across the street. I will definitely return again anytime I am in the area for travel.

Service was absolutely amazing! From the valet, bartender, waitress, busboys, even a manager coming to our table to ask how everything is. Just wonderful. Then there was the food which was delicious, as expected, every time I come I’m always fully satisfied.
We have been to mastros before and had excellent service, I mean excellent service, so for my 23rd anniversary I knew exactly where to go to make it and amazing evening!! My food was excellent and amazing! But ,The waiter was beyond awful!! I saw him 2 times all evening if it wasn't for a gentleman cleaning tables 2 tables away I would have never ever received a refill on my ice tea.. my husband ordered a beer it took 20 minutes to get the beer the waiter said the bar is backed up your just going to have to wait.. I tried twice to get more bread and I not successful at all.. the dinner was ultimately ruined due to the service!! I really made a mistake in choosing this for a really special occasion!! ☹️ I'm not to sure if I'll go to mastros again to be honest... it is kind of pricey but the food really is amazing..
