Mastro's Steakhouse - Palm Desert
Service was very good. Felt sized of most food(esp meats) were ridiculously large. Noise from band/singers annoying. Singers not very good.
Whole experiences as very old world dinning and expensive. For example some martinis and other cocktails were $22+
Disappointed... Having been to Mastro's in Beverly Hills I guess I had expected more of the same here in Palm Desert. Not so. The bar was nice but the drinks were overpriced. Our table was ready at the appointed time but it went downhill from there. We were ultimately met by our server and despite promising to return and take our drink orders we didn't see him for a while. When he did return he promised to return with some bread but we finally had to ask for it. It was just one disappointment after another. The wine list was long an varied but provided few if any choices between $50-$150. They were all overpriced. The menu was as published on the website, but I can see why they leave the prices off. Appetizer choices weren't that varied or exciting. I would recommend that lobster bisque. The Mastro salad appeared to have been made over an hour before, yet took its time in finding our table. The steak is of good quality but was unevenly done. The sides were less than inspirational. The dining room (in front) was small but combined with the noise from the bar made table talk difficult. The room was also cold to the point that we kept our coats on for at least half of the meal. There were plenty of servers but they seemed to be more interested in conversing among themselves than in attending to guests. We paid our $425 bill for two drinks each, two shared steaks, a soup or salad, and a couple of sides for the four of us. If you want to see what a real steak house is like go to LG's. You won't be disappointed with the ambiance, food quality, choices, service or value. Suffice it to say that Mastro's Steakhouse in Palm Desert is off my bucket list.
The service and atmosphere in this location is brilliant. Although prices may seem expensive, the pours and portions are huge, so ideal for sharing. Never lets me down!
Food was yummy, service was great but it was way too noisy for a conversation to have without shouting at each other.
Terrific evening! We were there to celebrate a birthday and the entire experience was exceptional. Order the bone-in 12 oz filet with Butter Cake for dessert!
As you would expect, steak, potato, mushrooms, bread and salad were really great. Sushi, tuna tartare, Brussel sprouts were actually not very good. And I have to say, at $85 for steak how is the spiced butter not included? Or at least when it’s sold it should be said it’s an add on for $15. It’s not the $15, it’s the sneakiness that is bad juju. Overall would not recommend. It’s just not noteworthy enough for the price. We probably should have stayed with our Ruth Chris reservation.
Fantastic service! Amazing food! Steaks, chops, appetizers, the whole sha-bang was perfect. The only downside was the noise level was almost unbearable with the band playing. Was looking for more of a quiet setting. Other than that it was 5 stars all the way!
This place is first-class all the way. A bit pricey but worth the investment. The bar is very lively, great entertainment.
My husband and I were referred to this fabulous restaurant in Palm Desert before our Michael Feinstein concert . We arrived early, headed to the bar for a glass of wine. Raul was was our bartender and was so delightful and helpful when our table was ready. We were seated at the perfect table, we had numerous attendants and never wanted for anything. Lauren was our server and is a fabulous asset to Maestros !
Couldn’t have been better from start to finish. Great recommendation
Service and food were excellent. Live music in room adjacent to dining so it was loud.
Service was great. Food was great. In fact both were incredible. However they set a loud table of 12 next to us halfway through our meal and unfortunately it affected the experience.
I make sure to visit Mastro's every time I come to visit; my mum-inlaw. I usually get the Lobster Bisque; which is amazing and a lemon drop or wine! My husband flew in to town to meet me for the weekend; so it was a special night for us. I ordered the Alaskan King Crab stuffed mushrooms, they were delicious, until I found 2 pieces of a hard plastic in them :-( My entreé was the twin lobster tails. They came to me under cooked, and the spice on them was too salty:-( They took the lobster back to cook it some more and it still was NOT cooked through. My husband had the Oyster Rockefeller and the Pepper Steak, which he enjoyed. I live in a small town, so I was really looking forward to this "Experience" They did comp us the Butter Cake which we took home and the crab mushrooms.
Best service from the beginning to the end.!! The food was great. Our waiter was a 5 star. Best restaurant in town.
Thanx for a wonderful evening!!!!
Bit into a broken piece of ceramic in my salad. Also my friends Veal was horrible, no flavor. Disappointing because normally this is my favorite restaurants but I go to the one in Newport Coast. My first time at this location.
My husband & I love everything about Mastros, the food is so delicious, the music is perfect & romantic, dessert is spectacular, the service is great, we celebrate all of our special occasions only at Mastros.
First time here and the place was amazing. All of it, food, service, ambiance, will be returning soon.
Great food and service. Butter cake was awesome finish.
The singers were great, the bartenders were great, the veal chop was "ok", and the corn was great.
Crab cocktail was outstanding. Everything else was amazing.
Food was fantastic and Stephen our waiter wasjoutstanding
Great food and great service!
We came on the recommendation of a golfing partner and we were not disappointed! The food was excellent (the bone-in filet was incredibly flavorful and soft as butter!), the service was perfect. We had heard the noise level was high, but we were placed in room off to the side, and had no problems.
Always fantastic service. Food was delicious.
The food and service was excellent. We sat in the lounge and the live entertainment was terrific and not too loud so that you couldn't speak to each other. It is not cheap to dine there but the food is excellent.
Birthday Desert was wonderful.
For a quiet space please just ask up front before being seated as the bar area is very loud.
As for the food it gets 5* out of 5. Our bone in fillet was a true treat. The service is outstanding in every aspect.
This was our first but certainly not our last visit as it now ranks number 1 for steaks, salads, potato offerings
and SERVICE !
This was our first visit to Mastro’s as recommended by a family member. The restaurant is very nice, and our server very pleasant. But, our 12oz Filet arrived almost well done when ordering medium. Our waiter firmly agreed and took our steak to replace it. 20 minutes later(cold sides) the steak arrived CORRECTLY cooked. Then the bill arrived with a charge for 2 Filets! The bill was corrected, and we received a butter cake due to the service. We would consider going back, but should have been given a coupon or certificate for a return visit. Very nice restaurant, BUT.
FAVORITE STEAKHOUSE OF ALL TIME!!! LOVE THAT YOU SUPPORT LAW ENFORCEMENT!! THANK YOU FOR THAT!!
Our waitress was phenomenal!! I only wish I new her name to write her an excellent review. We followed her suggestions and everything was awesome! Great food!!
Fun place in El Paseo area. Lots of noise so not ideal if you want a quiet or romantic evening. The food is delicious and expensive but not unexpected. Excellent wine list. I think the portions are excessive. I would rather have less food and less to throw away.
Our dining experience started well. We were given a table in the bar which we had requested. We had notified though Open Table that is was our birthdays, and they gave us a birthday card signed by the staff. We ordered Petite Filet - it was way to salty & sea bass - it was fishy tasting. They gave us complimentary desserts for our birthdays, but they were very dry tasting. We had a gift card to use, but they wouldn’t accept it. At the end, they just wanted us to leave so they could use our table again, which was very rude and condescending. We wouldn’t go back to the Palm Desert location.
First visit. We live in La Quinta and it's about a 30 minute drive. I'm also a big fan of LG's which is much closer to home.
Forget about having a drink at the he bar before dinner!
This one of my pet peeves about desert restaurants, they serve dinner to people at the bar. We arrived at 6:00 with intent of having a drink first. Forget it, the bar was full of people who wanted a cheaper meal!
By the way, LG's doesn't serve dinner at the bar, so you can always enjoy a drink before dinner.
I'll get to the food and service in a moment - both were excellent, but the atmosphere was probably 2 1/2 stars. My second biggest gripe was the noise level. There were three of us and we could barely hold a conversation.
Now the good news - the food and service was excellent.
I ordered a Gray Goose Martini ($22). This is the most I ever paid for a Martini, but it was huge and perfect with 4 blue cheese olives. It is served with a chilled sidecar and probably the size of two traditional Tuni's.
The bread tray was also huge and a work of art.
Our server - Amber knew the deep details like the back of her hand and showed up regularly to top off my Martini from the sidecar.
The ladies split a wedge salad and it was great and the half portion was the size of a normal starter salad.
I ordered the 22 ounce bone-in Rib Eye ($60) medium rare plus and it too was flawless. The ladies each ordered 6 ounce filets ($49) and races and well. We had bernaise and sauteed blue cheese butter on the side.
My side was shoestring potatoes ($13) and the ladies split Scalloped Potatoes ($13). Both were huge and could have been shared by four.
I enjoyed a glass of Daou Cab ($19) with dinner. It was a nice cab and also huge, probably a quarter of a bottle.
We were celebrating my wife's birthday and they brought out an incredible desert ($7.50 - which was comped). The three of us shared it and each portion was a normal amount for a small dessert.
We dine out often and were looking forward to our Anniversary dinner at Mastro's. Our waiter "Bill" was rude and condescending. His demeanor was bitter as if he did not want to be there or did not want to provide service to us. We had a $100 gift card that we presented to Bill along with our credit card for payment. Bill took the gift card and credit card and returned to our table shortly with our gift card and "stated" Mastro's is a member of the Landry's group of restaurants and does not offer "points" for this card and handed us a bill for the entire amount of our dinner. When he returned to the table I advised the gift card was for $100 and I had no idea abount "points". He grudingly had to rework the bill to include the $100 gift card. We tipped Bill based on the full amount of our meal and continued on our way. The meal was fine... the service, specifically Bill was a a gigantic disappointment. In retrospect we should have registerd our disgust with the Manager, I guess we just wanted to get away from Bill ASAP. Bill, if you hate your job, find another profession.
Food is always good. I have been to Mastro’s for many occasions.
However this time the service was ok, the server smelled of cigarette smoke really bad.
I’m allergic to smoke and so this was uncomfortable.
Ordinarily we love Mastro’s. Tonight service was slow and unattractive. Not what you expect for Mastro’s.
From the shine of the crystal glassware across the dining room to the dry ice bubbling/smoking martinis to the fabulous sides for two to the rack of lamb, two lobster tails and filet mignon dinners, we had the dining experience of our lives! Truly 100% awesome ambiance, service, entrees and desserts!
I wouldn’t trade this restaurant for any... I love being treated like gold and this is the place that does exactly just that... I own 5 businesses and this is my safe haven after all my hard work ! Thank you mastros
If you’re planning on dining at Mastro’s, Palm Desert and you want a quiet dinner, this is not the place. Food is very good, service was above average but the noise level was terrible. Rushed through dinner just so we could talk.
Restaurant was great about getting us a table as we were there one night before reservation (my error).
Negative was VERY loud you had to yell to speak to your neighbor.
We were too close to the bar where they were extremely noisy.
Wouldn’t go back unless they could guarantee a quiet table.
We loved the bread they brought out especially the pretzel bread. Also the lobster mashed potatoes were unbelievable! Topped it off with the butter cake which was rediculously good. I recommend for sure.
