My best friends 30th birthday was amazing. We had great food, the ambiance was superb, and the service was great!
They chased us outside for a bigger tip😐
It was good but they should spiel the outdoor dining in the parking lot. Give you an option oppose your simply walking you out towards the lot. A heads up or an option to wait for indoor would be nice.
Best go-to place for date night.
Be careful look at your bill. We were charged twice on all beverages and wines. Major Rip-off
It was wonderful but that only thing was the added things they don’t tell you the price for. I was charged $15 for a suggested bone marrow butter that was just a suggestion to make the steak taste better. Didn’t even eat it and got the bill for $15 at the end
We have been many times. Knowing Covid issues we were impressed with the distance, etc. unfortunately the steaks and lobster were not anywhere near what they used to be. Disappointed.
Compared to other high end/fancy restaurants the servings are bigger than you expect. The steaks (20 and 30 something oz) were huge and perfectly cooked. The service was great and they gave a complimentary desert of our choice for my girlfriends birthday. All around this place was great!
Very accommodating and great service
Unfortunately my father’s 50th birthday celebration dinner was ruined by Mastro’s Ocean Club where they are not following or enforcing CDC guidelines to keep their guests safe.
I am considered high-risk, so we have been quarantined and maintaining social distance this entire year. So when we decided to return to our favorite spot to celebrate a momentous birthday for my dad, it was a big deal.
Sadly, when we arrived we observed hardly any guests wearing masks or practicing social distancing, and well over the maximum 100 people seated and walking around indoors.
In Newport Beach, it’s well known that no one cares about anyone but themselves, and Mastro’s proved that to us perfectly. It was extremely disappointing that not a single member of their staff was enforcing guests to keep their masks on when not eating at their table. I felt powerless and I had a panic attack when I realized how exposed and at risk I was in the restaurant. I cried at the table and in the bathroom, hardly ate any of my food, and begged my family to leave early. I now have to be retested for COVID because I was exposed to so many people at Mastro’s.
When I called to explain my grievances to the managers, I was assured that they were sorry I felt so traumatized and was promised a call back... it’s been 48 hours and I haven’t heard from anyone...
I’m writing this review because I want the public to be aware of the risks they are taking when dining here. You would expect a restaurant that has such high-quality standards and a luxurious reputation would do their best to protect their guests and staff. If you are like me, and you care about surviving through this pandemic, I promise their butter cakes taste just as delicious at home.
Beautiful location and amazing ambiance. We had an excellent time celebrating my Fiancé birthday.
The ideal experience, exactly what you would expect at Mastro restaurant. :)
Food good; extra charges on a dish should be listed on the menu; brussel sprouts $15; additional $15 for pork belly addition which was not listed on the menu.
Love this location!!
The way they have set up in the parking lot is fantastic!! We love it!! Wish they could keep it like this, it’s fun and fresh❤️❤️Well done guys
I love This restaurant a lot but unfortunately last night my steak was almost not cooked and when I asked them they take the same steak put in microwave and back and still was bloody which is really disappointing.... not acceptable for high end restaurants like mastros ...
once same thing happened in bungalow and they brought me new steak ... everything is amazing in this restaurant, I’ve been in this restaurant many times but my guess they should really consider when they don’t do a good job they should bring you the new decent food like the price that they charge !
Not the same level of attention as pre covid. Outdoor area looked nicely set up for diners.
Great place to eat.
Ally was our server. She was fantastic. Steak and lobster tails were delicious but my favorite was the sautéed shrimp app.
I come here probably once a month and this will be the last time. We spent $3,000 food and wine. Worst service ever! from the server to the manager!
Cold food, fat all over the steaks, so bad we could not even eat the food and they recognized and admitted how bad it was!
This place is trying to take advantage of the people, because of the virus and limited places to eat....never again will I step foot in the "JOKE" of a restaurant until things change!
Great experience and will be coming back
I'm a loyal customer and celebrate all major events in my life at Mastro's. The experience is usually outstanding. I was extremely disappointed with my last visit. We waited almost 10 minutes before our waitress came over and introduced herself. We ordered a bread basket and when it arrived with a container of butter, we realized we had no silverware. He had to flag down a passing server to ask for a butter knife. While waiting for the waitress to come an take our drink orders, a second waitress came over and said she would be taking over our table. We both ordered crab cakes for appetizers. Our crab cakes were over cooked and crunchy on the outside. I was so hungry , I ate mine. My companion tried hers and send them back for the same reason. The waitress did take one order out from the bill. The rest of the meal was delicious, no complaints. One of the main reason I go to Mastro's is for the the usual VIP service of the staff. I hope the manager takes a look at this review and instructs the staff that there is no excuse for the poor service I experienced at the restaurant.
Our server, Emalina, made our experience special. She is a definite asset to your company. In my opinion she should be a supervisor. She was seasoned.
The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. Steak melted in my mouth. Food was hot, bread Basket was so good and warm.
I ordered Irish coffee with my dessert, it was perfect but I would have appreciated a dollop of real whip cream on top. We did enjoy the music selection this night and appreciated that we could listen but still hear each other to talk. We were asked if we were celebrating and told them yes for our 39th anniversary. I wondered if they had something planned but nothing happened. Overall a good experience.
This used to be our favorite place to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries before Covid. Not sure why the service and food quality has become compromised but it has. We could barely get the attention of our servers and the scallops we ordered were overcooked. We will NOT be returning. There are too many wonderful Laguna Beach and Newport Beach restaurants maintaining their service and food standards during this pandemic.
Rachael, who was our server, was the kindest and most friendly server we had at any restaurant we've been to ever, including 4 other Mastro's locations.
Wonderful experience as usual .. Perfect for any occasion. The music is always first class as well as the food and service.
I have been a #1 fan of Mastros since they first opened the Costa Mesa location back around 2006. I have been to both the Costa Mesa, Newport Coast location each dozens of times. I have also been to Las Vegas and Scottsdale locations. Until recently each occasion has been outstanding and it is always my first choice for ANY special occasion.
I feel like since they sold out things have ever so slowly gone down hill. The plates don't have as much butter, the Champagne and wine pours are smaller, the seafood is a little less fresh, the horseradish seems different, less whipped cream on the butter cake and the Mac and Cheese didn't seem as creamy and decadent. Those are a few things that I noticed during my recent visit. I understand cost cuts but not at a restaurant like Mastros. I would much rather pay a little more and have the old Mastros back.
I will try again, because I do love Mastros but I can't go too many more times and spend $800.00 for a less than "Mastros", Mastros experience.
The restaurants' main sitting area is very attractive, however we were sat at an 8 person table in a side room with a door leading out to the patio. Under normal circumstances, I would have requested another table in the main dinning room, however because of the current health crisis, I was okay with our table. We were spaced far from the other two tables in the room and I didn't feel worried about having too many people around us. Overall we had a great experience. Food was good and staff was attentive & friendly.
I come here for special occasions with my family and we expect the experience to be amazing for the price we are paying. We finally got seated after waiting a half hour after our reservation time. There was no apology from the host and they tried to seat us inside at the bar area even though I specifically asked for outdoor seating. They said that they assumed that we wanted to switch but I’m still not eating indoors at restaurants, and who would want to sit at a high top by the bar? Seemed odd and felt like they were just throwing us into an undesirable table. The service at the table was great, food was mostly great but they overcooked my med rare steak. Most pieces were medium-med well. I didn’t want to complain but they really shouldn’t mess up your steak temp at a place like Mastros.
We chose Mastro’s Newport Beach to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary. Awesome experience in artistry of food, ambiance and service. Server Hannah was on point, cordial, attentive and professional. Sommelier Michael was steeped in knowledge on Italian wines, our favorite. Steaks, bone in filet and petite filet mignon were beyond terrific. Cooked to perfection and served hot with lobster Mac/cheese and broccoli. The butter cake desert is decadent and wicked in its scrumptious melt in your mouth flavor. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend Mastro’s Ocean Beach Club, Newport Beach for any special occasion.
This is the place that has kept us sane during these difficult times and we absolutely love it!!
Dining experience at Mastro’s was amazing as always.
Fantastic birthday! I loved my cake!
Our usual Mastros is the Beverly Hills location, but there were no openings for the night I needed. I also frequent the BH because it’s closer to home.
Lovely set up/ambiance
Beverly Hills location:
Hit or miss with the steak
You can order items that are no longer on the menu.
The Newport location didn't budge when we asked for the potato or the green beans.
BH does it all the time and goes out of their way.
It was great from start to finish!
Perfect, as always. I hope more of the old staff comes back. Great time! I thought the staff did a wonderful job with COVID-related protocols. Never felt that our safety was compromised.
I made reservations weeks ago for my 1 year wedding anniversary. We were sat in the parking lot where headlights from the valet shone onto us while eating our dinner constantly throughout our entire meal, along with the smell of gasoline from one particular car that passed. The meal was devoid of any “ambiance” that could be considered Mastro’s quality, let alone quality of anything greater than an Applebee’s. The food was bland, it tasted as though no seasoning was used at all, including salt and pepper. My Chilean sea bass tasted fishy. It was an incredibly disappointing experience for our anniversary and for a dinner at Mastro’s.
Slightly disappointed that no complimentary dessert was given for celebrating a special occasion compared to the Beverly Hills location. Steaks were not charred enough on the outside and a little bit too mushy on some parts. Overall, would come again for the romantic ambiance.
Perfect place to celebrate any occasion: Breathtaking views of the ocean and the sun setting, great food, outstanding service, live entertainment. Looking forward to our next visit!
Mastro's is the full dining experience, beautiful restaurant and location and exceptional food. I am sorry that the prices on the menu is not something that any household could afford. We feel very fortunate that it is our to go favorite restaurant when we are in Newport Beach.
The service is the best i was tip them 40% and the food is great , i love lobster bisque and Tomahalk steak, it is the best on the planet, i definitely recommend, i will be back on my anniversary soon❤️❤️ the seat i have outside by the ocean the view 1 million and the food is the best i very much enjoying my dinner:)
Excellent service! Emmy was wonderful and the food was amazing
