My Nephew had just gotten married and was visiting from Europe. We took him and his new bride for a celebratory family dinner at Mastro's. The service was Superb! Our waiter recommended a great bottle of Champagne and put together a "wedding" desert platter for us. The food was excellent of course!

I don't often go to fine restaurants, but Mastro's definitely impressed. The ribeye steak I had was beautifully cooked and my wife had a terrific plate of scallops. The live music was a pleasant mood-setter, but we weren't on the bar side. Very expensive, so I'm not sure how often I will return but worth the money.

Nothing short of amazing. Travis, our server was incredible and the occasion was made even more special because of the setting. Perfect!

On vacation, had dinner with 2 other couples. We each had a salad and a fish entree, shared two sides and shared 2 desserts. One drink each. No wine. Tab was almost $700 for 6 - so know going in that the atmosphere is lovely though noisy, service is very very good, food was excellent. All in all a nice Thursday night dinner.

I have been to several Mastro‘s in the past, and this one at Newport Beach surpasses the mall. It’s hard to choose what you want all have a very varied menu. Knowing that everything you have or will order will be the best. I love coming to this restaurant for a nice quiet enjoyable time. Thank you Mastro‘s

Dining here made our 53 rd Anniversary very special. The staff was terrific, best steaks we have had and the view was spectacular. An occasion and locale we shall remember

You get what you pay for and that is never truer than it is at Maestros. We were a party of three that had a cocktail each, shared a very modest bottle of wine ($48), had two modest apps each (calamari and bigeye tuna w Asian slaw, which were very good and outstanding, respectively), had an average entree each (no crazy Wagu or anything but My N.Y. strip was cooked to perfection at medium rare and pretty much a dream steak come to reality on a plate), and split two modest sides (garlic mashed and Brussels, both very good). No dessert, coffee, etc and it was $400 before tip. BUT, as noted, the food was all in the range of very good to perfect and the service from our server Marina was impeccable. Bottom line: expensive as heck but well worth the cost of entry if it is in your budget.

The mega restaurant chain, Landry's Inc. has created a great high end restaurant with superior steaks, sides, and wine. This location draws in Newport Beach's wealthy and beautiful people so it is an interesting place to see and be seen. That being said, there is a certain sense of chaos that the smaller locally owned restaurants avoid. Even on a Monday night, their tables were booked so tightly that we had to wait 15 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. They offered us an opportunity to go to the bar while we waited but there was no seating in the bar due to the "bar scene" that draws in the locals. Once we were seated we had a rotation of no less than 8 different people bringing us bread and water, taking our wine order, another person bringing the wrong wine, another person bringing the right wine, our actual waiter taking the order, a different person delivering food, a different person clearing plates, etc. It is nice to be attended to regularly but a bit impersonal to rarely see the same person twice. A few helpful tips, ask about the specials as ours never told us. When they ask you how you like your meat cooked, please know that the plates come very hot, beyond anything I have experienced, so the meat continues to cook while be delivered and while you are getting your sides portioned out. Consider requesting one step less cooked than you usually enjoy. Our waiter didn't let us know this handy tip so ours was more well done then expected. For a more intimate experience, I recommend locally owned restaurants like The Winery and Selanne Steak Tavern. They offer equally good food but a more intimate service level and a more enjoyable experience.
