We typically love Mastros but this time was different.They changed servers in the middle of the dinner with no announcement that the old one was leaving. The steak was very undercooked and there was no team service as usual.
Very Interesting experience due to the pandemic situation. We were sitting outside in the parking lot, but they made a great attempt to not make you feel like you were sitting in the parking lot. We were able to have dinner at 7:30 PM, so the sunset was beautiful! However if it was any other time of the day it might not have been the best ambience because of sitting in the parking lot
I have dined with Mastro’s at the Malibu Ocean Club and somehow, Mastro’s Newport Beach Ocean Club was able to provide a more pleasant experience even during the pandemic for outdoors dining. The food was immaculate. Service was pleasant. I am definitely coming back to this location for my dining experiences with Mastro’s.
My husband and I were at Mastro’s Ocean Club to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Everything from the spectacular service we received to the outstanding meal was out of this world. Top shelf all the way!
One of the best restaurants in the area perfect fo a special occasion. Low grades for Ambiance due to COVID 19 regulations. Price high but worth it.
The food is always outstanding at Mastro's and, because of the pandemic, they have tried to make the best of it. They put tents in the parking lot just outside the door. It is outdoor dining while watching the sunset. The noise level is very low and the service, food, comfort is outstanding. We actually like it better than inside because the noise level is so low. It is our last visit to Mastro's at Crystal Cove since we are moving, so we left very satisfied.
Our favorite restaurant.... hands down. Can't beat this food anywhere.
To be honest, this was my least favorite experience I’ve ever had at Mastros. I understand with Covid-19 that things are different right now. Just hard to wrap my brain the fact that I barley have money and I was taking my fiancé out for his bday as a special treat and we had to eat in the parking lot for $200. I can deal with the cards that have been handed to us but what I’m struggling with is paying for a very expensive meal that was just okay. I asked for my steak to be medium rare and it came super cooked. Then the sides were on the colder side and didn’t have much flavor. I am not the one to ever complain anything but when you pay a lot for a meal and it’s not up to par, it’s just incredibly disappointing and hard not to bring it to the restaurants attention
We've been here many times, always impressed with the service, until tonight. I took my husband there for his bday . They wished him happy birthday, the server who took our drink order was great. After that we had another server. That's where it went south. I understand with Covid things were different, but all the other servers seemed on point, our servicer was def having an off night. Waiting more than 20 minutes for a glass of wine, didn't really want it after that, we were done eating. From start to finish we were there 2 1/2 hours. No joke. We didn't even have dessert for my husbands bday. I was afraid it would take another 30 minutes. Usually Mastros is on point.. but not this time. Truly disappointing.

Due to new regulations, we ate in a makeshift outdoor area and it was just lovely! The staff couldn’t have more accommodating or professional. The food was, as always, perfect! I think I like the beautiful new outdoor area even better than the beautiful indoor dining rooms!!!
Vincent and Hanna were amazing and top of any server we have had before anywhere! They made the night so enjoyable and a great team. Dale was not working that night or I would have told him directly.

I booked our reservation as a birthday. Our reservation was canceled and we had to wait 30 mins for a table and were seated at 9:00p and told at 8:55p the kitchen closed at 9:00 and we would have to order everything prior. I’m going to email the company.
My team and I really enjoyed this dining experience! The view was awesome, all current and necessary Covid-19 safety protocols were being practice by all. Food was amazing, service on point too!
Loved their outdoor setting for 4th of July dinner. Can't beat a gorgeous view and a stunning sunset.
Service was good, but on a slow side.
Food wasn't anything to write home about and our group tried a wide variety of dishes. Overall it was enjoyable, but I was expecting a little more from my entree (seabass). Solid 4 stars.
They made us feel so welcome even with the new regulations!
Due to COVID they set up outdoor seating in the parking lot. Our table was next to a parked car and fire hydrant. For an upscale dining restaurant this is unacceptable. They should’ve let us know ahead of time this was a possibility. Seemed like they tried to pull a fast one on us. We asked to be moved to another table and it was a little better but still not the experience we were hoping for when there were tables available on the patio.
Incredible service and filet
Even with the in-dining shutdown by CA 2 days before our reservation, Mastros did a fantastic job honoring all reservations by setting up additional outside dining which allowed most of the interior to still be used since they have full wall windows that were left open. Food and service were spectacular as always.
We went during covid with only outdoor dining and it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t amazing. We sat outside in their parking lot set up where it was windy and sunny. Food was still great but the table and chairs were extremely uncomfortable and it took a bit longer to get things since we were outside. Mastro’s is great but I wouldn’t recommend it during this time if you’re located on the outside.
Amazing dinner, fantastic service and ambience. Terrific value. Perfect for celebrating and for a romantic date night. We will definitely be back again.

Made reservations the day before Newsom closed in door dining. I was concerned our reservation would get cancelled. I call the day of and confirmed we were all good.
They has set up out door seating, a tent and heaters. Love this place.
Delicious, Mastros has not missed a beat! Service was excellent, the food delicious, along with the view. It was worth every penny!
Over an hour wait because my requested area wasn’t finished dining. Then they tried to sit me next to the loud Piano in the bar. Sorry no. Then they wanted to seat us outside in a empty Popup tent on un-level ground in the parking lot. At which time the manager was SO RUDE. Never apologized, never followed up with us, once we were seated. Just a total let down from what is one of my favorite restaurants.
This was too be a special dinner welcoming home my daughter. And this guy ruined a $1000 dinner.
Mastro's never disappoints. From fish to steak, there is no better place to enjoy your favorites. Then comes dessert, which is always decadent.
Celebrating 34th wedding anniversary bro first time. Brett was very friendly and informative accommodating and engaging.
The food won’t be on our expectations. This will now be our go to place to celebrate special occasions
Staff and food was fantastic
We celebrated my girlfriends birthday and the experience was amazing our waiter Charlie was great. He made sure we had a beautiful evening. He was polite and very attentive to all his tables. The food was amazing but we didn’t like the lobster Mac and cheese we expressed just in general conversation yet he had it removed from the bill. The whole night was perfect thanks to him.
The service was wonderful. Even thought one meal was not ordered the server and manger apologized and took it off our bill. My daughter ordered the Halibut, she said it tasted fishy and dry. The rest of our party enjoyed the food.
Great waiter, he made good recommendations. Food was excellent. Double espresso was perfect.

Well so this was my experience during the COVID19 situation on Friday, June 27th, 2020. First, I made a reservation through Opentable. Because of COVID they have placed tables on what was literally the parking lot of the restaurant so they can serve people, which I understand many restaurants are doing given the current situation.
However, for a fancy restaurant where you will spend more than 100+ per person, sitting in a parking lot and paying these prices is an absolute joke. You don’t get any of the ambiance in the parking lot that is inside the actual restaurant. Which is why I assume they are so expensive, because the food is absolutely nothing memorable and was extremely salty. Expensive restaurants usually charge a premium because of the experience. You will NOT get this sitting in the parking lot.
Curiously, all the individuals the restaurant sat on the outside parking lot area were minorities. Everyone in the main dining room was Caucasian. Was this a coincidence? Absolutely not. At one point they sat down a white couple in the parking lot outside area. That couple immediately complained they were not going to pay so much money to sit in the parking lot and were ushered inside, and an Asian couple quickly took their place shortly after.
When we asked to sit inside prior to that couple we were told “there was no room inside”. Please save the fake: “This is not the level of service we aim to provide” nonsense because this was all clearly intentional.
In a nutshell, my advice is; if you want to go, then make a reservation inside the restaurant. If you aren’t blonde, and they try to sit you outside, do not take it. Demand to be sat inside.
Perhaps inside it is a nice experience, a beautiful restaurant, and worth so much money. But personally I am not happy I paid ~600 dollars for a mediocre dinner whose food could easily pass from Olive Garden/Texas Roadhouse, at the parking lot of Mastros restaurant. The service is the only good thing they had.
