Marvee's Food Shop is a playful, soulful nod to the classic Caribbean takeaway.

Named after his mother, Marveline (affectionately known as Marvee), Chef Dom Taylor (Winner of Five Star Kitchen and owner of sold-out fine dining pop-up The Good Front Room at the Langham Hotel) has developed this concept to draw on the sounds, smells and stories of his childhood and heritage, offering comforting recipes cooked by Taylor's family, or remembered from childhood trips to Jamaica.

Located in the heart of Notting Hill, just off world-famous Portobello Road & Market, a stone's throw from Ladbroke Grove station. Our beautiful balcony overlooks the palm tree filled Portobello Green, giving Caribbean vibes throughout your dining experience. Indoors, it's softer, low level lighting, with soulful music.

Signature dishes include dark rum + raisin glazed pork belly, boneless curry goat, corned beef patties & oxtail gravy, and old school cake & custard or roasted plantain + molasses soft serve!

                                                                I had been looking forward to dining at Marv’s Food Shop for over a year. I originally booked a table during the chef’s Langham residency but had to cancel, so this visit was highly anticipated. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. My friends and I ordered the curry goat, mac and cheese, plantain, and pumpkin rice (as rice and peas weren’t available). The service was slow — it took about 20 minutes for drinks to arrive and 45 minutes for the food. When it finally came, the curry goat was more room temperature than hot, and our sides didn’t arrive until we were already midway through eating — only after prompting the staff. The portion sizes were on the small side, which wouldn’t have been a problem had the flavour and quality been there. Sadly, they weren’t. The curry goat was watery, lacking depth, and tasted as though it had been diluted. The meat was quite dry and not well-seasoned, despite the menu’s mention of a coconut-based sauce. The pumpkin rice had an overpowering cinnamon taste and the rice itself was had hard pieces as if taken from the bottom of the pot. The mac and cheese lacked richness and had a strange, taste — like it had been stored in a cardboard box for some time before reheating. As someone who works in catering, I was especially looking forward to enjoying a professionally cooked meal. I did raise my concerns with a staff member during the meal, particularly about the disjointed service and the late arrival of our sides, but unfortunately, it didn’t improve the experience. I usually refrain from writing negative reviews, but given the price and my anticipation for this meal, I felt it important to share. I really wanted to support this venture and would love to return to give it another chance — but honestly, I’m hesitant. I’m worried I’ll be disappointed again and waste my money. I truly hope this was just an off night, and that others have a better experience. The concept is exciting, but execution on this visit

                                                                My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here, and it was a wonderful experience and very special memory. The vibe is super cool, the staff is welcoming and the food is unique and delicious! We will certainly return.

                                                                We were really looking forward to visiting as we had experienced the Good front room. We were not disappointed. From a warm,friendly welcome to attentive waiter,yummy cocktails and then delicious flavoursome,beautifully presented food,it was all fabulous. And price point compared to the Good front room,it was worth every penny! To top it off,the chef then came out to engage with his guests which is always so positive and speaks volumes. We happily took off our coats to enjoy the complimentary rum punch- thank you! Thanks you for a great experience. We will definitely be back and wish Chef Taylor and his team every success!

                                                                A great place to eat or meet up for a drink with a lovely balcony space to boot; the front of service is very good; very approachable & good banter; the food was excellent, just the right portions & with a good selection of desserts

                                                                ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lovely local gem! Marvees Food Shop is such a brilliant find – fresh, tasty food and super friendly service every time. The menu has something for everyone, and everything I’ve tried has been full of flavour and made with care. It’s clear the team take real pride in what they do. Service was great. Will be back very soon. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and even if you’re not - it’s worth the journey – highly recommend!

                                                                "I love the relaxed feel of this place – it felt like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The jerk chicken with plantain jam and the porkbelly dish was amazing. We paired it with such a refreshing mocktail called Tropical Wave. Service was well-timed and friendly, the food and drinks were affordable."
