   Lynchburg is an ideal family dining choice! One traveling from NC and the other from Crimora. Market at Main was chosen based on the website, history and reviews. It clearly did not disappoint! Who could resist dining in a building who's history has been so perfectly preserved? A treat, indeed!! We were serviced beautifully by Kelsey (sp) who was both attentive and knowledgeable. The menu was extensive and delicious..meatloaf being the favorite. Cheers to the chef for the best carrot cake on the planet!!! To make this even more special, I have no doubt that my grandfather frequented that building when he lived in Madison Heights. I know more Market at Main dining is in our future!

   The restaurant has a unique feel to it. We were seated next to the kitchen area and you could listen to the cooks as they are loud at times. Our waitress was excellent. I had the chicken salad sandwich on the wheat berry bread and it was very good. I would not spend the extra money to get the fruit as a side as it was not very good. My husband had breakfast and enjoyed his meal. I was somewhat annoyed there was only one cashier for paying your meal check as I ended up behind a group of 8 students, each paying individually on one bill. I guess the other cash register is only used for individuals walking in as they rang up someone buying cookies as I was waited to pay my bill.

   I love Market at Main! This is truly the only place in Lynchburg to get a good quality breakfast. That being said I do not mean to diminish the quality of the restaurant and how great the food they serve is. I tried both the Eggs Chesapeake and Sweet Potato Pancakes on this visit and they were both excellent. This being said, they had no idea that I booked a reservation on OpenTable. This being a complaint mentioned by other reviewers I would assume they do not check OpenTable on regular basis or even use the service.

   We have been to Market at Main for breakfast and lunch several times since they opened, but recently went for dinner to listen to a band we enjoy. I don't know why it was different, but the quality of the food at night was very disappointing. My husband ordered the reuben - which usuall is outstanding - but it was dry and flavorless. I ordered the pork medallions with the apple brandy glaze, but it wasn't at all what I was expecting. I thought the glaze would be "saucy", but not only could you not see it you couldn't even taste it. I thought it would have a sweet flavor, but it was basically just a grilled pork chop without the bone and a fair amount of gristle. We likely will not be returning for dinner.

   Even though we had a reservation, arriving 10 minutes early, we had to wait over 40 minutes, very disturbing. The hostess had NO consideration for reservations, she sat people as they arrived.

   Although the restaurant was Sunday morning busy, we were seated right away thanks to our Open Table reservation. Our server was friendly and efficient, and the food was just great. Everyone in our party left pleasantly satisfied.

   This was our first time at the restaurant and I was excited. The atmosphere was nice but that was about it. After ordering, about an hour into our wait, we asked the waitress how much longer would the food arrive and there was no apology or thanks for our patience. She said, you can leave if you want. With a response like that, you would expect the food to be amazing but sadly, it was not. The crab cakes were soggy, the broccoli tasted like it was frozen and drenched in a horrible sauce and the Mac and cheese was just ok. The waitress said they were not prepared...on a summer, Friday night downtown...really I highly doubt that I'll be visiting again in the future. So disappointed. I expected so much more.

    You DO NOT need to have a reservation to dine at Market at Main. I called in advance to confirm my reservation and ask about a dress code. I am sure the staff had a good laugh. Market at Main is a casual, friendly, neighborhood gathering place. The staff was great,food very good, and abundant, reasonably priced portions were served. Try the fried green tomatoes. It was evident that Market at Main is a favorite gathering place for locals. We were sorry that we could not return there for breakfast. Our server mentioned items on the breakfast menu which were mouth watering. Market at Main was our favorite dining spot during our three day stay in Lynchburg.
