With sweeping views of Mt. Baker and the Straits of Juan de Fuca, the Marina Restaurant at the Oak Bay Marina offers a feast for all your senses.
The two restaurants in one (either sushi or view) are hard to understand. The reservation system at open table doesn't let you reserve for the sushi part. Sushi was great and we were lucky enough to get a table quickly. Staff were good.
We had lunch today at Marina for the first time. I was blown away by the setting which gave you a panoramic view of the water. I was disappointed to see that they had an abbreviated lunch menu so I couldn’t get the dish I was hoping for. We started with the calamari which was very good, crisp and tender. The sauce didn’t add much, however. I then ordered the salmon burger. I never order salmon in a restaurant at home for 2 reasons: 1, it’s always farmed, and 2, restaurants always overcook it. I decided to try Marina’s salmon because it’s wild caught, and I was thrilled to see that it was cooked perfectly! My husband had the petrale sole fish & chips and it too was wonderful. All told, this was a lovely lunch in a fabulous setting.
I have been to the Marin many times for lunch. I was surprised by the high noise level Sunday at noon. If this keeps up, I will have to rethink the Marina.
Sorry to say. Food and service were the same high standard.
Reserved through open table. Seated right by window with beautiful views of the marina. Service was efficient and friendly. Food was excellent. Very happy with the evening.
We brought friends from out of town here for lunch. So few restaurants in Victoria take advantage of our wonderful ocean views and this one excels in that category . We all loved our food and had excellent service from our very friendly server.
Beautiful surroundings, excellent service, delicious menu. Slightly noisy when the restaurant was full, but still more spacious and able to have a conversation than most restaurants on a busy summer evening.
We were disappointed with most of the food, service was very slow and not that friendly. The noise was definitely over the top.
The view was great. My friends were from Alberta and were looking forward to dinner by the sea and we were all somewhat disappointed.
We went to the Vista 18 the following evening and it was great. Everything was great - from the ambience to the friendly, genuine service and the food was superb. They gave us enough time to enjoy the view, but not so much that the night dragged.
I thought it was expensive
Our server was lovely and kind. The food was good but not exceptional. The two tempura prawns were the smallest I have ever seen - one was barely more than the tail. That was disappointing because the tempura batter itself was excellent. The gyoza were overcooked to the point of crunchiness. Overall, the food was a bit salty, but we ate it all.
What impressed us the most was the care the chef took to ensure our take-out creme brulee looked beautiful. No one has done that before. As it was a present for someone else, the chef's attention to detail was much appreciated.
So tasty and amazing service! Yummy warm bread served as well.
Food, service and view were excellent as always.
Our server was excellent but it took asking a second time for a window seat even though that was easily available that night and I had requested in my email earlier.
The food is tasty and local but plating could be a bit better everything was mashed together in a pile. The view of the marina and ocean is amazing.
They've simplified the menu a great deal from years past. I had the oysters and chips, which was very good with a super crunchy coating. My dining companions had the tabouli salad with falafel and the sockeye salmon "market catch" feature, both of which they enjoyed. I miss the old menu but I will return to try something else. Service was prompt and friendly.
Made reservations a month in advance for sunday brunch buffet to ensure I would get a table for long weekend and my birthday (July 4) Used restaurants web page to book. Web page doesn't state at all that brunch buffet is over. They recently added at bottom of page "serving plated brunch" but this was not there when I booked. It still says sunday brunch 10-2 and for those that know sunday brunch as a buffet of course will assume sunday brunch still means brunch buffet. Of course we arrived and were informed of no brunch buffet, plated brunch buffet has minimal choices so we mived on. Waitress had no empathy or was not apologetic at all. Informed her that the web page advertises sunday brunch and she just said "on occasion" insinuating the page states this as well which it does not. If the waitress had had more empathy and apologized for the confusion the situation would have been a bit more palatable. Your web page is a tad ambiguous too for those that know sunday brunch as a buffet. Have a buffet calender and clearly state next to brunch timings that it is on occasion and plated only in off days, not just a post script at very bottom of page which is still ambiguous because you can have a plated brunch at same time as buffet. I would consider this to possibly mean that a la carte is still available if buffet is not wanted as a choice. Have gone to bugfet many times on special occasions. My friends and I most likely will not at this point.
One meal had hair in it and it was replaced however 3 of us had finished dinner so that was disappointing .
My meal was halibut with the serving of halibut being very small, probably 4 ounces. The volume was made up with a very large serving of potatoes, how about other vegetables. We have patronized OBMR many times over 30 years and this time was very disappointing. It was my wife’s birthday which further aggravated the experience. I know you can do better.
Always love going to the Marina! Ambience is wonderful - even if the weather is not perfect! Love the staff and always enjoy my cocktail and lunch. See you again soon.
Good service from our waitress, she was bright and cheerful and picked up on the lunch being for a friend's birthday and presented her with a dish of truffles. Well done!
Living locally, we have been longtime frequent diners at the Marina. It has been our “go to” restaurant particularly when entertaining our out of town guests. Yesterday, was very disappointing and the meal was abysmal. Apart from the fact, the portion of steelhead trout was miniscule (perhaps three bites) my fish was raw. The accompanying white beets were also raw. The other vegetables, kale and a few scattered watercress were not inviting and just visually a mess.
Delicious chowder, fantastic halibut dish and the shellfish paella was good. The calamari was dry perhaps because it was very small pieces and the tempura type batter dried it out - we sent it back. Our server told us it was the favourite starter but we noticed someone else sending theirs back too. Have had many calamari dishes over the years and this one had the tiniest pieces of squid ever. The vanilla bean brûlée was great. Highly recommend the chowder and the halibut dish. Spectacular view and great service.
Our server Eric did a fantastic job juggling both a tour group of 27 at the same time as giving very good service to our table of 4. We have been to the Marina many times for both lunch and dinner with our family, and have always had a very good and memorable service and experience. We will continue to come to the Marina with our family.
Yes, but with a warning that the noise level makes it difficult at times to be heard. This was a party of six.
It was great! They made a personalized dessert for my parents 35 anniversary
The setting is fabulous and so was the food. We shared the beet salad which the waiter offered to have divided in the kitchen. Exquisite. Mains were a perfectly done salmon fillet with tender-crisp veggies and a tasty rice croquette. The tuna paella was so good; a generous serving of seared tuna accompanied with wonderful rice that included wonderfully crisp garbanzos garnished with clams and mussels in their shells. We shared dessert, 3 house made truffles that were perfection. Service is top notch without being stuffy. We attended on a Monday night and it was packed.
Our visit to the marina was under whelming to say the least. The server seemed hurried but friendly. Very expensive for the amount of food one is served. Only two vegetarian options. Our family enjoyed the view but will not return.
The 4 of us had excellent dinners and applies. We had 2 orders of the Calamari to start with then we had the Albacore Tuna, Halibut fish and chips and 2 of the Lamb entrees. It was my birthday so for dessert I received a plate with 3 different kinds of truffles and a Happy Birthday written in chocolate. Very good service as well. I do miss the white table cloths that used to on the tables. As this is quite a pricy restaurant it is nice to have the added class of white table cloths.
Terrible experience! The food was awful. We came for the Buffett, which they don’t have anymore. We decided to stay. The menu is weak. They served frozen strawberries at a time where Victoria has fresh strawberries, what tasted like warmed up/microwaved, oily paella, burnt hash-browns. Honestly, probably the worst meal I’ve eaten out. Very disappointed. Very pricey for a microwaved tasting meal.
We try to celebrate special landmark events at the Marina - the food is reliably spectacular , beautiful view , and great unobtrusive service . This evening was no exception . Thank you to the wonderful staff front and back of house for a truly memorable joint birthday celebration
Great setting and service but the main dishes were very slow to arrive at our table and luke warm at best. The food was of good quality and generous portions but unfortunately the enjoyment was diminished by the low temperature and slow kitchen.
Service was great
Food was better than average
Overall pretty good
Fabulous food and service
Great service and food!
We had a wonderful evening at the Marina. We always choose this restaurant to celebrate special occasions and it never disappoints!
Our Copper River salmon was perfectly prepared! Waiter was efficient and friendly. Waterfront atmosphere was lovely
Dined with 5 friends: I asked for a quiet table and they accommodated us as best they could - it is a fairly noisy place... but a nice vibe. The big disappointment was that three of us were served meals that, while very attractive and tasty, were not hot - in fact barely warm. I wrote directly to the restaurant to comment on this as I don’t usually use social media to complain, but they have taken the decision not to respond... so feel it fair to warn others. We were asked if our meals were OK, and one person did complain, but the other two of us didn’t want to ruin the mood of the evening by having three dinners taken away... but they should know if plates have been sitting too long before service. Also one of our group is really allergic to just about everything. She asked for a plain grilled chicken breast and nothing else. Unfortunately she got a few bites in when she realized it had some kind of green garnish on it... so she couldn’t eat any more as she just can’t take the risk. Yes, she could have sent it back or asked what the ingredient was, but I don’t think restaurants realize how reluctant people are to complain when on a social outing.
The whole experience was lovely. Best calamari ever!
Superb meal, great service, good choice of wines. Staff were welcoming and friendly. The incredible view was a fitting frame to a dining experience.
The setting was lovely and the service attentive and knowledgeable. However the noise level overall was to the point of being unpleasant in spite of the fact that we were off to one end. My Ceasar salad was exceedingly difficult to eat as I struggled to cut huge hard chunks of core within a bowl and the prawns were over cooked and dry. Fortunately my guests seemed to enjoy their choices.
it was fathers day and it was a good place to go to thats local
Our family visited for a Father's Day dinner. The setting by the water is stunning. The waiters are very experienced so the service was excellent. For me, even though I love seafood the menu didn't really appeal. Nothing too exciting - fish with vegetables that I don't care for. I ordered the halibut and there was just too much going on - too many different ingredients, too many different textures, too many different flavours. The dinners are expensive so it is harder to spend so much on food that isn't superb. We usually go here for the sushi bar - I think I should have ordered off the sushi bar menu.
An enjoyable lunch, well prepared and beautifully served .
W will come t the Marina Restaurant agin soon.
