The oysters, pasta and halibut were great. The sword fish, not so much. Overcooked and the flavor of the fish and the sauce were not up to your usual standards. Unfortunately 2 people in our party ordered the sword fish.
Very enjoyable evening. Sat at fire tables before dinner. Had drinks and appetizer. Then sat at a lovely table and had a great dinner.
As always, the food is delicious and the service was friendly! Andy was very attentive to the table and patient with us as we took time debating over what menu items we were going to decide on.
The food was pretty good, but the service was terrible. During our dinner, the wait staff broke a wine glass, dropped an entree on the floor, and had several mishaps. I had ordered a rose, and when the wine came out, it looked like white wine and when I asked, the waitress had a bad attitude and told me that it was exactly what I had ordered. Even with the descent food, would not return.
Excellent from start to finish.
Food was very good and service was excellent, but table location was horrible (stuffed in a seat by the door)
Initially very upset that they gave away my table after 15 mins from open table ! We were stuck in traffic - waiting almost an hour for another table with a Chito male host very nice - Female hostess unfriendly, speaking to staff about us and not making eye contact- very humiliating to patrons
Recommend this highly in every important regard. We sat just inside the open pit fires so we had the convenience of a table but enjoyed the view and heat of the fires. Service was efficient, polite and top notch. We ate a crabcake appetizer and a Alaska cod entree; both were delicious. Ambiance was quiet and decor was a pleasure to view. Overall the best experience we had in the North End where we had two other meals, both good but no comparison.
Great experience - had the great Tuna truffle crudo, oysters, lobster tail pasta. Only slight disappointment was the cocktails we had which weren’t stellar. Learned the regular barman wasn’t in that day :-( got great lemonchello shots to compensate though.
Oh and an amazing flourless chocolate cake with hazelnut ice cream. Overall a great night !
It was way too noisy. We were behind the bar and had a cold breeze blowing on us throughout dinner. Customers waiting to use the restroom were backed up around the tables, not good.
Service was poor. The food lacked flavor. It was a very expensive, disappointing meal.
The tuna was outstanding!!
The menu was too basic, lacked a large selection of fresh fish from the bay. However, the ambiance of sitting in an open air cafe style upscale restaurant was wonderful. The lobster pillows are to die for and a baked stuffed ocean crawler will set you back $79. But the food was delicious!
We had a great experience start to finish. The only complaint was that the aisle between the rows of tables was a bit tight so my chair was bumped into a few times and service staff kicking my shoes which happened frequently enough that it was memorable. Seems like an odd thing to complain about but truly everything else was really great. It's a bit pricey but compared to other restaurants at that price point the value was definitely present. Great oysters and seafood.
Been to the previous location and loved both of them. Delicious, fresh, perfectly prepared seafood. Highly recommend.
Quality of food and wine were excellent.Nice evening at Mare. Lots of wonderful seafood choices and service was very good.
Excellent food. Service was a bit slow due to number of tables waiter was assigned.
Love the location.. food and service could not be better, love mare
The food was great. Private Outdoor seating. Great atmosphere. I would go to this restaurant again.
The baked stuffed lobster is the best! If you like stuffed lobster and you haven't tried this one you are missing the grand prize winner.
Excellent seafood in a delightful open air setting. Great wine and great food. We will definitely go again when we are in Boston.
We did not care for the “club” background music. Would have liked classic Italian instead.
With over the top prices, the food needs to be much better. It was just ok. It was a nice experience, but not exceptional.
On our reservation we requested to eat outside and they sat us inside near the front door. Champagne was flat had to sent it back.
I really enjoyed the massive shrimp, great east-coast oyster selection from ME and MA, steamed mussels, pear salad, and seafood pasta dishes. It's expensive, a crowd-favorite, but definitely worth it. I'd want to return to try their whole fish roasts.
Two meals were missing sides that were described in the menu description and one of the meals we ordered was completely forgotten. This on top of generally slow service.
Absolutely wonderful meal from start to finish! The surf and turf appetizer and the wild mushroom spaghetti were perfect! Lovely setting too. Highly recommend.
WOW. AMAZING FOOD, GREAT FRIENDLY SERVICE. CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN.
noisy, tables on top of each other, wait staff racing around; our table in a horrible location. Food so-so for the price
Was my favorite restaurant in Boston but no more.
Prices are absurdly high. $7 for one shrimp is comical. At B&G, ICO or Neptune you can do much better.
Also if you have reservations you should get a preferred table. We were offered a table near the doorway and when asked about outside seating were offered a couch.
Food is good but for the price I will take my clients elsewhere.
Food and ambiance is always good at Mare but this time our waitress forgot to put in two of the menu items we ordered.
Delicious! Had the huge Zappa Di Mare and it did not disappoint !
Amazing wait staff and the food is always top notch. Perfect evening as always at Mare.
Food very good and the waiters are attentius
Located in a friendly neighbourhood
This appears to be a large corporate comedown from what Mare used to be. Food choices were less inspiring. Service was mediocre and not particularly well informed. What used to be a restaurant that strived to be a better version of itself seems to be resting on its laurels. Sorry that such a choice has been made.
Consistently excellent. Great food, service, wine selection.
Michael was an outstanding server that gave us time to relax and enjoy our party.
Great night out with colleagues on a summer night. Tucked into a quiet alley in the North end. Our service was great, attentive but not over bearing. Food was delicious- authentic, delicious and not overstated.
Great seafood selection!
Service and food were excellent.
Food & service was fantastic, value not quite there. $17 for a martini?!
