Horrible experience - waiter dropped 2 platters on top of our table splattering everyone. Accidents happen but they poorly handled the clean up and didn’t even offer to refresh our drinks or table linens that had red wine all over it.
We have recommended Mare to many friends. This evening we dined with a couple from Dover who we met on a safari in September. They love to come into the city but never know where to dine. Now they do!
Great food and portions are large. Our server was excellent as well. It is noisy but we could still talk.
Mare is not a restaurant that is equipped to deal with very cold winter nights in Boston. Having booked my reservation online, I was not aware that most of the restaurant was nothing more than a heated tent. The food was good as was the service, however the restaurant was very overcrowded, making it difficult to enter or exit without feeling that we were disturbing another party. Due to the overcrowding it was also very loud and not very relaxing.
It was not a good experience for us! The service and the food is not that great!
My favorite restaurant in the north end, hands down!
The food and service were outstanding. My problem when it was time to pay. We used a Visa Gift that had &200.00 on it we even had the receipt showing that. The problem occurred when the waiter came back and told us it had $165.00 on it . We paid our $167.00 dinner check left a cash tip, and took the card back with us. The person who gave us the card brought back to the place of purchase and showed him that there the remaining amount was still on the card. The problem with this waiter is that they tell you there is nothing left on the card. He asked us if he wanted him to take it. The store owner said that is the new scam that waitstaff will do this with cash gift cards to ensure themselves getting a better tip. They take the card that you have been told is empty and they cash out the remaining amount!! I am very disappointed in The staff at Mare that I may never go back there again!!! The owner really needs to look into this. If this ever happens to you bring the gift card back to the store an get it checked!!
Mare delivers superb service and food consistently. I’ve been a regular and it never disappoints. My favorite North End seafood experience!
While my octopus appetizer was delish, the wild mushroom sauce was too thick and didn't taste that great.
TLDR: Good food, but if you want to be closer to other guests than your date you should look elsewhere
My girlfriend and I went on New Year's Eve at 6:30PM. The tables were so squished together we had to walk sideways to get to our seats - should not be the case at a place when you're paying for a somewhat expensive dinner. It was fairly loud, and this was further exaggerated because I was closer to the people sitting on either side of me than my girlfriend.
The food itself was delicious - a little on the pricy side on the apps, but the entrees were delicious and we felt those were fairly priced.
Service was OK - our waiter wasn't very personable or friendly, but the rest of the staff was very attentive and quick to take empty plates away and refill drinks as needed.
Overall I was less than satisfied given the total cost of the bill. I wouldn't go back here solely based on how unpleasant the actual atmosphere was (proximity to other tables was a HUGE disappointment).
Great New Years Eve dinner
I was so disappointed I went to the old location and I absolutely loved it. We went to dinner at 4:30 pm new years eve with my husband and my son. The restaurant was not busy they put us at a table for 4 that over looked a sub shop. The restaurant was very cold in the location they sat us. The next party of 4 they put next to us. The restaurant was empty and so were the other tables. The tables were very close together so close that every time the waiter went to the table next to me he kicked my chair. The lighting was very dim. I order lobster raviolis could not see what was the topping on my dish. I was so disappointed. I will never go back again.
My husband and I brought friends who are very particular about restaurants and food and they loved Mare as much as we do! Everything from the drinks to dessert was perfect!
Great service, food was very good. Would be a great spot in the summer with outdoor area.
Fabulous Christmas Eve dinner. Casual yet classy, delicious food, lovely warm atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Service was well-timed and friendly. We requested a cocktail not on the menu and that request was well accommodated. My friend asked about a meal that she had had on her last visit and our server said that the chef would make it!! The seared scallops in a lemon mascarpone sauce was stupendous!
Great food. A little cramped but the staff is courteous and service is excellent. Fire pit is awesome.
Great before Celtics or Bruins games short walk to the Garden and the North end is fun. It is good for meat but seafood is its speciality.
This place is a real gem, tucked away from the bustle of Hannover St off an alley. Oysters, crudo, fish and wine are all remarkable. Love the open fire pits on the terrace, creating great warmth on a frigid night.
My wife and I have been to Mare on many occasions and like it very much. This time, we decided to go for the seasonal special of the Seven Fish Feast. It was way below expectations, The first two courses were deep-fat fried - much too heavy and left us too sated to really enjoy the two last courses. The second course which was supposed to have lobster was tasteless and had no discernible lobster. Overall, a very disappointing and expensive evening, especially in view of our previous experiences at Mare.
Always a great place for business dinners.
Food and service was excellent.
Tables very close hard even for waiters to navigate. Noise extreme. Service seemed intent on getting people in and out as quickly as possible. Offered no assistance or suggestions or advice. Food excellent hot and hi caliber. So great eating but poor ambiance and no touch service.
The First course from me was Tomate y Mozzarella. It was directly Put of the refigerator. Everything was icecold !!!!
The Service was unfrindly and they give US Not enouph Time to eat, they want the table as fast as possible with new People seeted.
Went for a pre-Christmas dinner with friends. The food was excellent, service was very efficient without hovering. Not a quick in and out spot - leisurely dining. We plan to go back in the near future.
Very attentive Waite staff and good service. very knowledgeable on the menu also.
Warm, Inviting, Excellent
Great wine list, a bit overpriced; but that goes with the territory. Fresh fresh fried calamari; excellent linguine and clams. Highly recommend.
We were very disappointed. Staff was not very friendly. Two out of the four of us did not like our meals and we were never asked if everything was ok. The other two didn't dislike their meals but didn't think the food was anything special. It was very expensive for mediocre food and unfriendly staff. I would not recommend this restaurant and do not plan to go back again.
Lovely food and service. Birthday Tiramisu was a surprise
Mare is now my favorite restaurant in Boston! The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely to die for!! Pricing is a little on the expensive side, but it’s 100% worth it! Make sure you try the trio crudo and lobster spring rolls for apps. The swordfish was melt-in-your-mouth worthy and the oysters were so fresh!! Can’t wait to come back!
The food was excellent and the very attentive service outstanding!
The cocktails were amazing, service top-notch, and loved the cozy but comfortable atmosphere; however, the food was a bit of a disappointment. The best thing we had were the mussels — the tomato broth was amazing and total old-school perfection. Grilled octopus was pretty chewy, but maybe it’s the time of year? The boar parpadelle was extremely mushroom forward, and lacked salt. (It was almost like eating carnitas meat at Chipotle.) Re: the surf and turf that was billed as the “chef’s favorite”: The steak was over, and the seafood was under, lobster mashed potatoes were simply re-heated mash mixed with steamed lobster. Dessert was...fine? Nothing special, and I expected more from their tiramisu.
It was definitely not worth the 300-plus for two. Overall, a bummer; if we were to visit again, it would be just for the cocktails and mussels! (And great service!)
Finest Italian Seafood on the East Coast, served with impeccable timing and graciousness, in a lively venue redolent of some steak gem in Northern Italy.
Very average food all around for a high price. Tight space, we didn’t enjoy eating on top of another table. Not something to write home about, if I’m spending $200+ for dinner for two, I expect much better all around
Ambiance is really lovely, though the tables are a little tight. Food and wine was delicious. Service was good, a little sparse but our party was very low key and didn’t need much attention.
Very good. Went here for a birthday dinner. The service was especially great, wait staff very concerned with our happiness.
The restaurant has overall good food, in particular the oysters are very good. Lobster ravioli are excellent, the risotto was not that great - consistency and flavor could have been better. Our bottle of white wine was not great. Overall the restaurant is too densely seated and tries to have too many guests. Also there are simply not enough restrooms for the number of guests.
Great location and food. Atmosphere is lovely. This was my first time dining here. Highly recommend and will return.
Mare is a nice North End restaurant with good food and ambiance. Our server was very good and did not intrude on our dinner while providing everything we needed.
