Superb food, beautiful and hip ambiance, outstanding staff. The host/receptionist whom I called about timing issues was super nice, helpful and accommodating. Love this place!
Good food and great service. Was a little loud, but I would go back.
Good good. Service was exceptional. Restaurant was a bit cramped and very noisy. Sith table right next to bus station, constant stream of waiters and customers left me guarding my wine glass from being knocked over. Table should be moved or changed to 2 persons to allow more room. Another table was right up against raw bar with people and stools in your face. Other tables were fine and waiters were very good.
My wife and I were looking for a nice place to end the week and the Mare was recommended to us. Even though there were quite a few people celebrating graduations from the various universities the service and food was great and done with no delays. Rosarrio, our waiter, was great.
Food and atmosphere were outstanding. Service could have been better but luck of the draw.
Excellent dining experience from start to finish. Great service, beautiful spot on back patio and the food was fantastic.
Seafood was fantastic as was dessert. We were not fans of the bread service. The bread was served cold and had a very hard crust. But overall everything was great.
Hostess had a wonderful smile and knockout body in skin tight leather outfit......food and service was ok also....
Lovely Italian cuisine in the North End.
Had the grilled octopus, which is simply amazing, the combination of eggplant and octopus really surprised all of us. The tagliatelle and the truffle crusted tuna are also worth coming back for.
We waited over 30 min for our table.
Then had to flag down a server to order drinks, then flag down someone to place our food order
Had a wonderful time with family to celebrate our son's graduation! The food and service is outstanding!
Was a great spot to dabble in the North End and eat oysters on the half shell with plenty of other fine seafood options! Attentive service- mixed groups: family style, date night, and girls night out.
Great people and great food - the oysters really are amazing. Rita was so accommodating for us, even on a busy Saturday night. We will definitely be back.
We were there to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had a great time. Rita and the whole staff was so hospitable and nice. Food and drinks were both great, ambiance was 👌🏼We can't wait to go back.
The food at Mare is amazing. This was our second trip there and I'm sure we will be making a third. Service and food is fantastic but I can't give the place five stars simply because of the seating. Be very ready to make friends with your neighbors because you will probably bump elbows a few times. Plus, we were sat directly by the front door so every time it opened, cold air would blow directly at us.
So I'll be going back and I'll be having Oysters and something else fantastic, but I need some time to prepare myself for the crowds and the noise.
Oysters are amazing. Service is definitely higher than average, but could have more passion. Seating is more compact than expected, but noise level is acceptable.
Mare is my go to business dinner restaurant.
The stuffed lobster is a must-order if you come in as a group. It’s remarkably delicious and presentable. In addition, my personal favorite is the truffle crusted tuna, crispy on the outside and raw on the inside, just how I love it.
Plus great service as well as ambience!
Oysters were great. Very tastey awesome selection. Gf liked her sword fish unfortunately my frutti de mare was chewy dry and over cooked. The waiter didn't seem like he wanted anything to do with us. We ordered the dishes bu their proper names for example got riccota pie for desert and the waitress says so you want cheese cake ? I also mentioned that it was my gfs birthday and no candle or happy birthday or anything. $22 for valet parking.
Over all maybe a place for drinks and apps. Has great potential maybe I just caught them at a bad time.
Seating was just ok. Service was slow. Difficult to hear but food was very good
Very loud. Hard to have a conversation. Otherwise an awesome place!
Our dining experience at Mare was one of our all-time bests in Boston. Everything was outstanding, and I would highly recommend it.
Food was amazing and the lobster bisque the best I have ever had! Great service and nice table. We will definitely be back!
This was our second visit to Mare and it was great. The hostess seated us immediately and the server was with us soon after. My girlfriend has the cod and I had the halibut. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. The halibut came with shellfish and was slightly spicy. All in all it was an excellent experience.
Fantastic ambiance and lighting. Rita the General Manager is fantastico! All around great experience. Highly recommended for a date night or just drink with the ladies by the fires.
We love mare -- the ambiance is particularly special when the weather is beautiful and you can sit in the sun on the terrace. We ate on the terrace last night, and it was covered and with lovely gas fireplaces. We were itching for the springtime. I cannot say enough about the quality of the food, it's truly exceptional. Lobster spring roll, pizzetta di mare, fried whole clams, stuffed zucchini blossoms -- unreal!
The owner, Rita, is a joy -- she welcomed us, provided spectacular wine suggestions, and made our dinner for a friend moving to Boston over the top!
Mare Does it Again!
Every time we dine here it is a truly wonderful experience, beginning with the friendly greeting by the hostess, Rita when we arrive. The first time we dined at Mare we were amazed to find this attractive restaurant at the end of plain alley. It is especially attractive when the warmer weather allows open air dining. The food is always was interesting and delicious. As the name indicates, Mare specializes in seafood. There is a great raw bar with a large number of raw oyster varieties.
The menu offers a large variety of seafood. One of dishes I recommend is the "grigliata di pesce" which is a huge platter of grilled seafood including lobster. There are also several dishes for those for whom fish is not their thing, which according to friends are excellent. The service is great. They are very knowledgeable about the menu. We both chose one the specials that night, halibut with mussels and baby clams and puttanesca sauce and our waiter, Antonio was very helpful when we asked that it not be too spicy. It was perfect.
Our meal at Mare was another delightful experience. You can't go wrong if you're looking for a great meal in a special place. Yes, it is expensive, but this is one time you can be sure of getting your money's worth.
Outstanding Italian food with vibrant flavors and a balance between fish, meat and vegetarian.
Whenever we are in Boston for the marathon this is a must visit for us. Best oysters in town and wonderful menu.
Good food! But sat right beside the washroom
Mare was great and had a TON of seafood options. We had the trio crudo for an appetizer, which was delicious. My boyfriend got Swordfish (delicious) and I got the truffle crusted Tuna. The tuna looked spectacular, but, I thought the breading took away from the taste of fish and it felt a little heavier than I was hoping for. Also be aware that it can get very crowded and the outdoor seating chairs are not the most comfortable. All in all though, I'd go back for the fresh seafood and try more options.
Too loud to enjoy dinner with anyone else.
Great front room people, good waitstaff, very good seafood "Italian" style, pricey. Comfortable but noisy. Tables very close together.
Parking is non existent. Have to valet at next door restaurant $23 plus tip & 20+ minute wait included...still it's worth it.
Superb food and service. Rita the hostess was incredibly warm, welcoming and made sure our dinner was going well. Loved her!
We sat at the bar which was super cute and fun- it would be great if the bar stools had backs to it, like at Bricco (another outstanding restaurant)!
Great service, delicious and fresh food. A little too loud and cramped. But overall, always a good night!
Absolutely a pleasure all the way around! A must visit restaurant! We will definitely go back.
Took the family for Easter dinner. Everything was excellent. Everyone’s food was outstanding and the staff was very attentive.
Very nice restaurant. Good food.
They should give the cost of specials. Tables are too close together
I took my Family of 5(kids are all over 18) for dinner while visiting my daughter who attends school in Boston. Mare had been recommended by my colleagues up in that area and we were not disappointed at all. The seafood and service was outstanding and more importantly, and even for a busy Friday evening, we did not feel at all rushed and that to me is most important. I plan to visit Mare again without a doubt.
