Please visit our new location at 3 Mechanic St.
Great spot in the North End. Authentic. Food and service were great.
Loved everything about this restaurant- Putting this restaurant Mare on the top of my list!
I have been to Mare several times. I always order the warm lobster roll. This time I found the amount of lobster to be a little skimpy and they changed the roll it was served on. The lobster roll was great, just not enough of it.
If you are a fan of any kind of shellfish, please look at this menu. Mare totally, I mean totally lives up to its reputation for how well it’s shellfish is prepared and served.
That said, my partner and I both had pasta on this past visit. The Lobster Ravioli was incredible, to die for. Very rich, so don’t go too heavy on the appetizers.
Highly recommend having individual shellfish appetizers, individual salads, then share a main. Just saying.
Enjoy, you will simply not be (can’t be) disappointed here.
Service was poor at the table, as it seemed like all the waiters were not communicating with each other and different waiters came to our table to ask the same questions on multiple occasions. Also they were backed up on their reservations by 30+ minutes, but kept telling us we were the next on the list even though we weren’t. It would have been helpful to hear they were behind versus hearing we were the next table when we clearly were not. Prior to sitting down, we were definitely overwhelmed by the ambiance at and near the bar and felt like the people working at the bar were a little bit rude. The food was great, but the service was so horrible that it tainted the entire experience.
Electric setting at downtown Boston’s entrance to the North End. A kind MBTA rider gave me Mare as a referral. Food was delishously prepared. We had sashimi, oysters and swordfish - so juicy. Food server Rosario from Pisitano Italy was fantastic. Downside is drinks server was slow getting to us and hostess tried to seat us in a doorway but found a better table when I complained. Overall well worth a $100 for two eve on a romantic date.
Loved the zucchini blossom. Octopus was just okay and our pasta entree had great flavour but the lobster piece on top was raw.
Everything was as you would expect - the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Our food was delicious, I definitely will be back!
WOnderful ambiance and good service. However, the food was very bland and expensive. We ordered the stuffed calamari for an app-which came out cold, and the risotto and gnocchi for dinner-both were practically tasteless.
The food was above average but I don't think I will return. The side dishes were not as flavorful as I would have hoped. The lobster roll was fine, but I have had better ones in Boston.
The swordfish was delicious! Wine selection is amazing, the scenery & decor were impeccable. Definitely would go back!
Very good food and excellent wine list for this area. Difficult atmosphere. A significant percentage of the seats are outside and overlook the exit to one of the old Boston Harbor tunnels to East Boston - not a good look. The heat index was almost 100 that day and the outdoor space is not airconditioned. We shifted inside and were rewarded with a cramped table next to the hostess stand at the main entrance. Service was prompt and good. Best for shellfish dishes - as the name suggests.
The view combined with the service, the neighborhood, the atmosphere, and the food makes this restaurant amazing! My girlfriend and I loved it! It was such a great experience! We plan to go back again!
Excellent service!! Food was delicious. Estephania was patient and polite with our many questions and the manager was polite and accommodating. I would recommend this restaurant to others without question.
Tables are close to each other. Service good and water glass timely refilled. Outdoor seating was lovely with partial view of lighted skyscrapers. The bread was wonderful from bakery next door and came with olive oil, castlevano olives and roasted garlic. We chose the stuffed zucchini blossoms filled with ricotta and lobster with eggplant salad for appetizer. I always wanted to try them and they couldn’t have been better. I chose stuffed lobster for my entree because it was my last night. If I knew the price , I wouldn’t have; just saying. It was delicious and filling. Manhattan and wine were good.
Finally had the chance to come to Mare and the food was absolutely amazing, I don’t write reviews but felt I had to for this place! If you are ever in Boston I would highly recommend Mare! I had the lobster ravioli and it’s by far the best around, everyone I was with loved their meals as well
Mare is a very unique place and definitely deserve a try. Great food and good wine list.
Great food! A little difficult to find but worth circling the area to locate. Service was top notch. We would definitely come here again.
Best patio, service and seafood in the North End
The food is spectacular, the bartender Adina, the hosts and the servers are all wonderful.
We love this place. A definite favorite. Amazing food and great service.
Everything was excellent. Great personal service, food was delicious, presentation was simple yet enticing, and loved the al fresco seating.
Best place in the north end for seafood, seriously.
In Boston's North End the sea meets land and the best of seafood served Italian style is here. Very creative dishes and presentation exposed us to new treats. I especially liked the zuccini blossoms and lobster salad. The steamers from Wellfleet were different but tasty. We had good wine, excellent service and some limoncello to finish. As far as the setting, well... this is in the dense North End and this is really a hole-in-the-wall or alley. Modern decor cannot hide that your only view is of a tunnel exit - complete with its noise and a little bit of skyline. They made the best of this unappealing location.
We really enjoyed this dining experience. First time here and we'll definitely will eat here again. Mostly we ate from the raw bar. The crudo was excellent as we're the oysters. We shared the "special" paella which was chock full of delicious muscles, clams, shrimp and other fish.
I had a wonderful experience hosting a business dinner. Hostess, Gina, was very helpful, GM, Maurizio was very accommodating. The ambiance was perfect and the food was excellent. I’ll definitely visit again.
Wonderful little gem tucked away on a side street in the North End. Create place to bring out-of-town guests.
Outstanding food and service.
We enjoyed the food and the service immensely! Bread to start was beyond fresh! The lobster raviolis were amazing as was the veal tomahawk. We loved everything!
Rosario was amazing
The food is amazing always a great
True professionalism and mastery of service. Only issue was when I reserve on here and request fire side seating (4-5 days prior) they always prompt me that there may not be seating available.
Other than that it is always a pleasure to diner there.
Loved the atmosphere and the service was excellent. The food was okay. I had pasta and it was fresh but portions are quite small and flavor was lacking. Had a good time, though but would pick another Italian spot in the neighborhood before returning.
Great meal! So many seafood offerings at a modern chic spot in the North End. A party of four for a business dinner. All were pleased with the food. Service was a little slow and spotty. That said, I’ll be back next time I’m in town.
The food was absolutely incredible! No wonder they are known for their seafood... The grilled octopus appetizer and the lobster ravioli was to die for! Highly recommend this place for authentic Italian in the North end!
Fabulous seafood in Boston's famous North End. A must for seafood lovers visitng Boston!
Second time here and again I was very impressed. The food is just so amazing. The only complain I have is they don’t accommodate seating well. Both times I couldn’t get outside seating and both times I was squished between two couples
Wait staff was attentive and helpful. Overall though the experience was very noisy and not as special as it should be for a relatively high priced meal. I think we might have been spoiled by the previous Mare location, which we really enjoyed. The new location is not unique, nor worth the price.
Great find that we stumbled upon. The outdoor dining space was lovely - a great lounge area with fire pits and couches.
The oysters we had were very fresh, creamy, slightly briney. The seared scallops, served with bacon wrapped asparagus and butternut squash purée was delicious! The mussels were tender, fresh and sand-free. We shared a hot
Lobster roll and it was superb.! Tons of tender, juicy buttery lobster on a toasted roll - not soggy at all. The pice is up there, but you do get more l ouster meat than any other lobster roll I’ve ever had. And those rosemary fries....
The wait staff was very professional and efficient. A great meal and wonderful atmosphere.
Excellent ambiance, food and service! Highly recommended!
Went for an early diner (before play)
Food/service both excellent
Outstanding food (tuna crudo, fried clams, filet, baked stuff lobsters:), professional, prompt service, tucked away in a cozy enclave just steps away from the hustle and bustle of Hanover St.! Best dinner we’ve had in Boston.
