Mare is a really beautiful restaurant in the North End. Went with a friend and we were looking forward to it as we had heard such great things. Appetizers were fantastic (octopus and stuffed calamari), fish entrees were bland. We ordered cocktails and our waiter never came over to see if we wanted another drink the whole meal. The service was pretty dismal. Expensive restaurant for a pretty poor experience.
Great atmosphere. Great service and food A little pricey
The food is delicious. The ambience is fine but not special. Service was slow and at the end of the night the smell of sewage was enough to make you gasp. When we went to get the car, it was on with the keys inside and no one around. Nobody took our ticket. We got in and left. Anyone could have done that. A disappointing evening after hearing such rave reviews.
Good food. Polite, friendly service. Noisy during Friday night dinner.
Very nice restaurant tucked away in The North End. The food was excellent and portions large. Fried calamari was delicious. Seafood risotto was very good, as well as surf and turf. The meal was a bit pricey but well worth it. Tables were very close together, but the atmosphere was lively.
Waited 45 minutes after placing our dinner order before we received it, and that was after asking the waitress twice. Also asked is the salmon was farmed or wild, she was confused by the question & said that she would check. She never checked, I ordered something else. The food was ok, not great.
I had high expectations from reading previous reviews. Reservation was for 8, and we got seated around 8:30, which wouldn’t have been a big deal but the bar was crowded and it was difficult to find a place to stand. When we got seated, the service was alright, but appeared to be understaffed and we had to wait awhile for everything. Raw bar was good, but our entrees were very bad. I guess what’s what you get for ordering not raw bar at such a restaurant but I assumed the filet and seafood gnocchi would be much better. They were essentially tasteless and I was upset we spent so much on this disappointing meal. I don’t even like complaining and it takes a lot for me to be upset at a meal, but I really wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone except for maybe some oysters and a cocktail.
Excellent service, outstanding atmosphere, and an impressive selection of food and wine.
As always, Mare was wonderful. We started with a bottle of the Ferrari sparkling wine and a half-dozen east coast oysters. The oysters were fresh, and depending on the meroir briny or creamy. The batter on the zucchini blossoms (2 large ones) was thin and crunchy complementing the ricotta and lobster filling. We also loved the kampachi tartare with the smooth avocado acting as a counterpoint to a little spice. We shared the lobster and truffle tagliatelle - nicely sized for sharing to finish our meal. Everything was excellent including the attentive service. Mare is one of our favorite restaurants in Boston.
Absolutely amazing experience and seafood! The service is top notch as well. Outstanding.
My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary here. We are from Texas and this place was highly recommended by many locals and by our hotel concierge.
The food was incredible! The best oysters we had in Boston, the pasta was excellent, and the veal tomahawk was beyond amazing!
You can see some of the city from the patio and its tucked just far enough off the street that it's quite and beautiful. I highly recommend it.
Great food , fantastic espresso martini , nice to sit outside . Only issue was we were rushed , the main entree came out literally as we finished our last oyster , and they had to clear away the platter .
Service staff very knowledgeable, pleasant. Food outstanding
This is one of my favorite Italian/seafood restaurants in Boston. Always great!
This is the third time I have visited this restaurant and once again I have not been disappointed. Although the venue has moved from where it was before and is now larger, it has not lost its sense of intimacy.
Service is prompt and efficient and the food is plentiful and appetising. This time round I had my usual oysters (the selection is great) followed by Alaskan cod loin pan seared in olive oil, served with lobster stuffed bell pepper and butternut squash fondue - absolutely delicious!
Needless to say I will return to Mare when next I visit Boston.
We did not like that runners/table staff just hovered in the middle of the dining room... If you have time to lean, you have time to clean! Honestly, it felt like they were eavesdropping by our table Nothing says "Look at me I'm bored" then staff lurking. Please just wait in the wings and anticipate when you'll be needed to clear a plate or fill a water glass.
That said, the meal was fabulous... as was the joint itself. Kudos to these same lurkers for knowing when to clear a plate. They knew not to take mine while my guest was still finishing. That comes from the top... so well done.
We will be back. A few minor tweaks and they will be great.
This is one of our favorite Boston restaurants. Always exceptional.
Overall great food and service! Only issue I had was in was slightly cramped and loud.
Great service, the food was fantastic. The wait for our entrees was not long. The drinks were strong and tasty.
Love this place. Recommend it to everyone. Food is amazing
Everything was great
We went to Mare last minute after a meeting near Quincy Market. We wanted to go to the north end- an easy walk. The neighborhood is great, lots of people were out- it was a nice night. You can almost miss the alley / street- it’s not far into the neighborhood. They seated us pretty quickly and were very nice but the bottom line- the food was just fair. It’s a more expensive menu and the food just wasn’t equal to the location, setting or price point. All else was very nice and they served very quickly- Not sure if I would go again.
Meh...the place has potential and we’ve had better meals there before.
Grilled octopus appetizer was tough & chewy. Oysters were fresh & delicious.
Halibut special was supposed to be spicy, it wasn’t and it only had one caper!
Lobster ravioli was good, heavy meal, but had small bites of lobster shell.
Service was just ok. Waitress came over to check-in on us. I was about to ask if she can get my food packed, she was off & gone in the middle of my sentence.
Valet said it would take 20 min to get our car back, it took 45 minutes!!
Overall, a disappointing evening.
Everything from the atmosphere to the food was amazing!!! I would eat here every week!
Excellent atmosphere for date night with friends. Would recommend this to everyone.
Awesome restaurant ! Best meal I have had in ages! Started with zucchini blooms stuffed with ricotta and lobster !! Would go back just for that - crazy delicious . Also had the surf turf app also absolutely delicious! Our parties main courses were the salmon, swordfish and spaghetti n clams each one was devoured!! Would certainly recommend fir foodies !
The crudo was fishy. The salad was good not great. The tagliatelle was decent and the one positive thing.
Overall the dinner and night was amazing. The server did take a little longer than usual to come to the table but the appetizers: calmari and house salad were amazing. For entrees we both got the filet mignon which were cooked perfectly with two sides of polenta which is my personal favorite and spinach. For dessert we had the affogato and soberto trio both refreshing and delicious. Unfortunately we did have to pay 25 for valet parking which is linda ridiculous given that the valet only serves acouple of restaurants under the same ownership.
We had friends in town visiting...we wanted it to be a special dinner and it was excellent!
The lobster ravioli was outstanding! Great atmosphere and service.
Delicious meals paired with our favorite wine in a cool neighborhood! What a perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was lively without being too loud. A great dining choice when visiting the North End.
Had great time and food there for a business dinner. Zuppa di mare was my favorite.
Food was excellent. Service stunk. 46 min for the appetizer...no apology
Great food, service!!!
Wonderful food, very professional yet personable service, enjoyable atmosphere.
Great time at a fair price! Food was amazing. Service was excellent!
Great meal, great service!
All was good EXCEPT the valet was not "accepting" cars and was forced to walk 20 blocks and pay $40 for parking. I would not have booked this restaurant had it not specified they had valet. The North End of Boston is EXTREMELY busy on a Saturday night. That the restaurant profile specifies they have valet parking, this was a key factor in booking the restaurant.
Great Service, Great Food, Great Wine List, Great Venue
really good, will definitely be back. outdoor patio made it even more enjoyable!
