This is one of our favorite Boston restaurants. Always exceptional.
Overall great food and service! Only issue I had was in was slightly cramped and loud.
Great service, the food was fantastic. The wait for our entrees was not long. The drinks were strong and tasty.
Love this place. Recommend it to everyone. Food is amazing
Everything was great
We went to Mare last minute after a meeting near Quincy Market. We wanted to go to the north end- an easy walk. The neighborhood is great, lots of people were out- it was a nice night. You can almost miss the alley / street- it’s not far into the neighborhood. They seated us pretty quickly and were very nice but the bottom line- the food was just fair. It’s a more expensive menu and the food just wasn’t equal to the location, setting or price point. All else was very nice and they served very quickly- Not sure if I would go again.
Meh...the place has potential and we’ve had better meals there before.
Grilled octopus appetizer was tough & chewy. Oysters were fresh & delicious.
Halibut special was supposed to be spicy, it wasn’t and it only had one caper!
Lobster ravioli was good, heavy meal, but had small bites of lobster shell.
Service was just ok. Waitress came over to check-in on us. I was about to ask if she can get my food packed, she was off & gone in the middle of my sentence.
Valet said it would take 20 min to get our car back, it took 45 minutes!!
Overall, a disappointing evening.
Everything from the atmosphere to the food was amazing!!! I would eat here every week!
Excellent atmosphere for date night with friends. Would recommend this to everyone.
Awesome restaurant ! Best meal I have had in ages! Started with zucchini blooms stuffed with ricotta and lobster !! Would go back just for that - crazy delicious . Also had the surf turf app also absolutely delicious! Our parties main courses were the salmon, swordfish and spaghetti n clams each one was devoured!! Would certainly recommend fir foodies !
The crudo was fishy. The salad was good not great. The tagliatelle was decent and the one positive thing.
Overall the dinner and night was amazing. The server did take a little longer than usual to come to the table but the appetizers: calmari and house salad were amazing. For entrees we both got the filet mignon which were cooked perfectly with two sides of polenta which is my personal favorite and spinach. For dessert we had the affogato and soberto trio both refreshing and delicious. Unfortunately we did have to pay 25 for valet parking which is linda ridiculous given that the valet only serves acouple of restaurants under the same ownership.
We had friends in town visiting...we wanted it to be a special dinner and it was excellent!
The lobster ravioli was outstanding! Great atmosphere and service.
Delicious meals paired with our favorite wine in a cool neighborhood! What a perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was lively without being too loud. A great dining choice when visiting the North End.
Had great time and food there for a business dinner. Zuppa di mare was my favorite.
Food was excellent. Service stunk. 46 min for the appetizer...no apology
Great food, service!!!
Wonderful food, very professional yet personable service, enjoyable atmosphere.
Great time at a fair price! Food was amazing. Service was excellent!
Great meal, great service!
All was good EXCEPT the valet was not "accepting" cars and was forced to walk 20 blocks and pay $40 for parking. I would not have booked this restaurant had it not specified they had valet. The North End of Boston is EXTREMELY busy on a Saturday night. That the restaurant profile specifies they have valet parking, this was a key factor in booking the restaurant.
Great Service, Great Food, Great Wine List, Great Venue
really good, will definitely be back. outdoor patio made it even more enjoyable!
Raw oysters (nice selection) and lobster cocktail appetizers were excellent. Main courses (stuffed veal chop and osso buco) were good. The risotto that came with the osso buco was very good, but the serving was much too large. Service was attentive, although a slight mix up in the appetizer order caused a little jam up in the main course arrival. The ambience score suffered because the outdoor seating was adjacent to a busy highway. It was a pleasant evening so even with the road noise, we enjoyed our dinner.
Fabulous dinner on the patio at this North End seafood restaurant. The service was impeccable, the food was excellent, and we enjoyed the open-air ambiance. We started with the tower, including oysters on the half shell, clams, jumbo cocktail shrimp, lobster and king crab. The oysters, clams and crab were excellent, the lobster tail was very good, and the shrimp was flavorful but a tad rubbery. We mentioned all of this to our server, in passing, just an FYI. Before we knew it, a manager was at our table to inquire and offer an apology for the shrimp. Our meal continued, and we ordered the paella to split as a main. A scrumptious choice, and the lobster and shrimp were cooked to perfection. Dessert was a warm chocolate fondant with vanilla bean ice cream and Chantilly cream - every bit as good as we'd have at home in Paris. We are hooked and will definitely dine at Mare next time we are in Boston.
2nd visit. Great food locations and service. Thank u
Nice spot, mostly one large open patio with an interesting view, and the service was very good, but the seafood was all badly overcooked and the sauces were muddy in flavor and didn't help the dishes at all.
Welcoming faces in the middle of a torrential thunderstorm. Storm ends? No problem - roof retracts under a starry sky and you dine al fresco for the rest of a fabulous meal.
Good but not great. I got the crudo as an app- which was ok. It didn’t taste too fresh. For my entree I got Salmon with roasted fennel and puréed beans. The salmon was over cooked and had no taste. The roasted fennel was extremely soggy and limp. The waitstaff was excellent, 10/10, but for an Italian/seafood restaurant and for the cost of the entree I expected better than what tasted worse than a last minute meal I reheated in my kitchen on a weeknight.
Great spot in the North End. Authentic. Food and service were great.
Loved everything about this restaurant- Putting this restaurant Mare on the top of my list!
I have been to Mare several times. I always order the warm lobster roll. This time I found the amount of lobster to be a little skimpy and they changed the roll it was served on. The lobster roll was great, just not enough of it.
If you are a fan of any kind of shellfish, please look at this menu. Mare totally, I mean totally lives up to its reputation for how well it’s shellfish is prepared and served.
That said, my partner and I both had pasta on this past visit. The Lobster Ravioli was incredible, to die for. Very rich, so don’t go too heavy on the appetizers.
Highly recommend having individual shellfish appetizers, individual salads, then share a main. Just saying.
Enjoy, you will simply not be (can’t be) disappointed here.
Service was poor at the table, as it seemed like all the waiters were not communicating with each other and different waiters came to our table to ask the same questions on multiple occasions. Also they were backed up on their reservations by 30+ minutes, but kept telling us we were the next on the list even though we weren’t. It would have been helpful to hear they were behind versus hearing we were the next table when we clearly were not. Prior to sitting down, we were definitely overwhelmed by the ambiance at and near the bar and felt like the people working at the bar were a little bit rude. The food was great, but the service was so horrible that it tainted the entire experience.
Electric setting at downtown Boston’s entrance to the North End. A kind MBTA rider gave me Mare as a referral. Food was delishously prepared. We had sashimi, oysters and swordfish - so juicy. Food server Rosario from Pisitano Italy was fantastic. Downside is drinks server was slow getting to us and hostess tried to seat us in a doorway but found a better table when I complained. Overall well worth a $100 for two eve on a romantic date.
Loved the zucchini blossom. Octopus was just okay and our pasta entree had great flavour but the lobster piece on top was raw.
Everything was as you would expect - the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Our food was delicious, I definitely will be back!
Great seafood dishes. Service was exceptional and they do not rush you. There are indoor and outdoor seats and I was happy to get an outdoor seat with the Boston skyline in the background.
WOnderful ambiance and good service. However, the food was very bland and expensive. We ordered the stuffed calamari for an app-which came out cold, and the risotto and gnocchi for dinner-both were practically tasteless.
