It was a business dinner with a few clients visiting Boston for the first time. Mare was a bit clumsy while arranging our table but other than that everything was wonderful, the decor, the food, the service, you name it. My favorite dish was the stuffed lobster and the tagliatelle. The other client had the wild boar papardelle which I’d like to try next time. Thank you Mare for making us a lovely Saturday night!
The appetizers were outstanding. The lobster special spectacular, halibut good, drinks and service great. Wonderful evening and we will be back.
BAD service, got my table 35 minutes after the time of Mtnez reservation. They don’t care about customer satisfaction.
We got a table right by the front door and although the company was great, we were very disappointed. It was like we were hanging in the bar. We were there for a birthday celebration. It was loud and cold with the door opening and closing. The service was amazing as was the food and drink and the company we brought. Very disappointed after making a reservation, saying it was a birthday and still getting a table close to the door with a bar room feel.
Great food. Cleaned out plates, as always! Love Mare!!
As always amazing! Our favorite place to eat in Boston!
My go to place in Boston. They remember me and my family who are from ny. Compliments to the chef always
Cool ambiance, was a bit cold next to the plastic window shields. Loved our waiter, did not enjoy my meal that much - seafood gnocchi
Attended Mare on Valentine’s Day and it was amazing! The food was unbelievable and the ambiance was perfect for a date night! We loved it!
It was a very tight squeeze. Our entrees came out before we were done with our appetizer and no one ever cleared our appetizer.
Food was amazing and sitting by the fire was cozy. We will definitely go back
Love the atmosphere. Food was very good and wine was outstanding.
The martini I ordered tasted like water. I ordered the trios of crudos and the salmon was not good. It had an extremely bad "fishy-ness" to it. I think it was improperly kept. The entree I got seemed to have been sitting for a while before it was delivered to me because the butter broth was almost like a gel and the pasta stuck together in a big clump. It tasted good though. The lobster in the dish was overdone. My dining companion really liked the lobster bisque and the risotto entree though. The waiter never came over during the appetizer and I would have let him know about the salmon if he did instead of writing it here, and then he came over at the end of the entree to see how the meal was. I would have told him about these things, but he was just too late and I was hungry. I can't help but feel he pre-judged our table, maybe he thought our age and gender meant we don't know how food should taste or that we wouldn't leave a good tip so why bother. I usually adore this place, so I was a little sad about the server experience.
Went for the pasta with lobster and truffles... must say that the truffles were probably jarred and didn't have the intense flavor and aroma I was hoping for. On the other hand, my husband's raw -bar oysters sent him over the moon!
Service was great and, on a cold winter's night, they allow us to move by the fire in the cocktail area and graciously fed us as we sat on sofas in toasty, warm ambiance.
We came here for my boyfriend's birthday, our server Antonio was amazingly attentive and funny! Food and drinks were good, the oysters were fabulous!
Amazing experience, great service. Good was fresh with plenty of food. I am looking forward to going back again.
Mediocre food at price that should be better. Batter on fried blossoms was thick and pasty. Ossobucco was not tender and just coming off the bone. Risotto lacked texture. Was just rice dried out on the plate. Dessert just ok. Certainly not true north end. Seafood dish was mainly mussels with 5 clams. Everything tasted the same. Nothing spectacular here that should be revisited be revisited.
Great restaurant, amazing food. The owner took such great care of us. Highly recommend for date, special occasion, or casual dining.
I took my husband here for his 50th birthday. The website boasted patio with fire pits and the interior of the restaurant looked very nice on the website. When we arrived I saw the fire pit and the inside of the restaurant but then was lead to an inclosed patio to dine. It was awful. The seat I was sitting in was too low for the table and I had a plastic wall behind me that was intended to "shield" me from the weather and the noise of the highway right below. It did neither and it also had that nauseating plastic smell. They had heaters mounted on the wall so to my back I had this plastic wall and to my front the only view I had was giant, tacky heaters glowing orange. We ordered from the raw bar- good oysters and nice selection. We then got the mid level caviar- I had informed the waiter that I had never had caviar- he was not too helpful in helping me order. We liked the caviar but since we had never had it - we have nothing to compare it to. My husband then ordered the the lobster ravioli which he loved. I ordered the seafood risotto which we both agreed was flavorless. I ate it as it was not terrible but I have had had much better in other restaurants. We got a dessert which was good and ended the night. All in all it was not a terrible night but I can't believe a restaurant would sit their guests on this makeshift patio and would have appreciated better service.
It was freezing in there. A better option in warmer weather.
Service was good but rushed
absolutely amazing!! This place is over the top great food!! Definitely go go go !!!
Our sons birthday -great dunner
Loved it because everyone was so accommodating and pleasant
I've been to mare before during Boston's restaurant week and decided to go back for a night out with my significant other. I was excited to go back because I had fond memories of the food and experience there. However, both of the seafood dishes we ordered were overcooked and had an overpowering tomato flavor. There are definitely better seafood restaurant options in the North End.
We came in from out of state for NYE and surprisingly booked a last minute reservation here and were NOT let down! It was cozy, romantic and intimate. A bit pricy but our meals & drinks did not disappoint. Entree portions were larger than expected and piping hot when they arrived to our table. We did not feel rushed at all and could actually enjoy some conversation. The gas fire pits were perfect to cozy up to and have a romantic evening. I would recommend it to anyone!
Always great for any ocassion
Wonderful restaurant, but slightly crowded and too near the door - cold! Otherwise excellent all around. Look forward to returning in warmer weather!
Packed and noisy seating configuration, for no apparent reason. We asked to be moved and to a different area and it made all the difference. Food was really delicious. Oyster bar is fantastic. Staff was super accommodating and attentive.
Enjoyed our meal very much. The noise level and ambiance was perfect.
There were five people at the host stand when we were there. We were seated so close to them, it was uncomfortable.
The waiter was not very warm, and didn't want to talk about his wine list. They kept our bottle of wine out back..
The food was just okay, over-simplified with underwhelming flavors. Won't return.
Great evening at Mare as usual. We are friends with one of the bartenders, so maybe that helps a bit too, but the wild boar pappardelle is always fantastic, oysters are among the freshest and best in town, and the rest of the seafood choices are always good too. Service is great.
Excellent food and service! Warm lobster roll was very good. Lobster raviolis the best. Fried clam appetizer was good. Shrimp cocktail was outstanding.
The good food rating was for the oysters.
Otherwise, ... uncomfortable. Nothing award winning.
While food is decent and above average, place is noisy, tables are on top of each other. One can not have private conversation without people around you clearly listening to every word you speak. Tables are so close that one has to push the table to get through. Table cleaning is not the most professional and hygienic.
Be careful of wine. They show one year on the menu and serve you a different (younger wine) one.
For a restaurant that charges high end prices, please don’t pack the place like a meat market.
First time here but will be going back many more times. Great food, great service (Igor was the best), great place!
Birthday celebration! Great food and service.
Great food and ambience . Friendly warm atmosphere with great views of Boston Commons
My 4th time there and I usually really like it. Very busy pre-holiday Saturday night. My truffle crusted salmon had clearly been sitting on a counter for some time before it got to me. Still a fun place with quality food but be careful about not over-extending yourself. Not every nook and cranny of the place needs to be filled up. Make sure the kitchen and service can keep up.
