The food was amazing! The space was tight for the wait staff but comfortable for us. I was thinking about making another reservation for tonight!
Mare was disappointing. We eat out frequently and in the North End often, however, this was below the standard of quality and service we have experienced elsewhere. In addition, the food was expensive and in my husband's and my case almost in-eatable. The flavors were off in the pasta dish and the chicken was under-cooked in the chicken dish that we ordered. Our son's were satisfied with their lobster ravioli and halibut, however. In addition, you are really wedged in very closely to proximate guests and it is very difficult to move around. I would hate to see trying to evacuate if there was a fire. Also, the service was very slow, with the exception of the gentleman refilling water, he was excellent. I rarely write reviews, however, I really felt like we got a poor meal with sub-par service for a costly price tag.
Disappointing. Loud and crowded. Portions small for price. Food under-seasonedc lacked flavor.
Awesome service and yummy food!!!!
Love this restaurant. Love the fact that you feel as if you are outside. Love the food, which is delicious. And love the service, which is attentive. There are always service people look to see if you need them. I want to come here often.
It's a co-opted parking lot out back, overlooking the highway. Might be nice in the summer ( except for the chain link fence that is inches from your head ) Their old location was fabulous. The food was excellent, though our waiter got both of our drinks wrong. My wife ordered a Negroni ( standard fare and a listed drink on their menu ) He brought a totally different even after confirming Negroni was what my wife wanted. I ordered a Belvedere Vodka and Chambord martini. What I got was a Bombay Saphire GIN martini! not quite, or even close to the same thing.
Go there to eat, not to drink
Each dish was outstanding. The service was efficient, with an attentive staff. Only comment is that it is very noisy. One of our party has a hearing issue so it was a little tough for him to hear. It's worth a trip to Mare however.
I adore this restaurant. When people ask for the best Italian in the north end i tell them about this little hidden gem. It’s such a great seafood/Italian combo.
My one recommendation to the restaurant management is to hire more valet drivers. When i went in a Friday night i was expecting my car to take 20-30 minutes to come out when i was leaving. That’s what the valet told me to expect. I ended up standing there for 1 hour. I went back in to Mare and the manager took my valet ticket. He waited outside for me, and additional 30 minutes.
He was great and handled it very professionally. He probably should have reimbursed me for parking. But i will let it go. But for the future if you’re going to be offering valet, in Boston, in a Friday night, you should be prepared.
Our waiter was very prompt and the food was delicious. I had oysters, a cosmo (delicious), and the scallops. After dinner my friend ordered a Pistachio Martini which was the bomb (in a good way)!!! The only downside was when we ordered bottles of water for the table the waiter would come to the table with the water bottle already opened. We would have rather him open the bottle at the table. After we were served the bottled water, the other waiter came around pouring us regular water from the pitcher he was holding? Defeats the purpose of ordering bottled water. Small thing to notice but noted. Otherwise, everything else our table ordered was delicious.
Overpriced, horrible atmosphere with crowded seating
Mare never disappoints. Sergio the manager makes sure that everyone in the restaurant feel like a very welcomed guest. The Servers are friendly and helpful and the food, the best!
The food was okay! Not my favorite Italian north end meal but the ambiance was nice.
We loved Mare. The Lobster Roll was the best I have had! Happy that we could sit outside - inside was very loud. One negative issue - small bathrooms.
We sampled five appetizers and a half dozen oysters on the half shell. The food was delicious and the presentation was amazing! I would highly recommend Mare to anyone who wanted to sample all the area has to offer in fresh seafood.
Amazing food and.service
Fantastic food and ambiance was excellent
Food very average for price. Clearly you pay for the venue
This is clearly one of the best Italian restaurants in Boston. Better than its sister restaurants as they do not have the seafood availability.
Probably not. It had a good oyster selection which was the most redeeming quality. I had never been before and heard good things so I brought some friends from London to the North End for fish/Italian. None of us were particularly impressed with the food. Its good but its not great. Its not worth the price.
Food was out of this world! We had scallop appetizer and 6 oysters from Maine. Entrees were salmon with fennel and linguini w. clams. All delicious! Waitress marvelous, wine good too! Don't miss their bread bakery behind the restaurant!!
The oysters, pasta and halibut were great. The sword fish, not so much. Overcooked and the flavor of the fish and the sauce were not up to your usual standards. Unfortunately 2 people in our party ordered the sword fish.
Very enjoyable evening. Sat at fire tables before dinner. Had drinks and appetizer. Then sat at a lovely table and had a great dinner.
As always, the food is delicious and the service was friendly! Andy was very attentive to the table and patient with us as we took time debating over what menu items we were going to decide on.
The food was pretty good, but the service was terrible. During our dinner, the wait staff broke a wine glass, dropped an entree on the floor, and had several mishaps. I had ordered a rose, and when the wine came out, it looked like white wine and when I asked, the waitress had a bad attitude and told me that it was exactly what I had ordered. Even with the descent food, would not return.
Excellent from start to finish.
Food was very good and service was excellent, but table location was horrible (stuffed in a seat by the door)
Initially very upset that they gave away my table after 15 mins from open table ! We were stuck in traffic - waiting almost an hour for another table with a Chito male host very nice - Female hostess unfriendly, speaking to staff about us and not making eye contact- very humiliating to patrons
Recommend this highly in every important regard. We sat just inside the open pit fires so we had the convenience of a table but enjoyed the view and heat of the fires. Service was efficient, polite and top notch. We ate a crabcake appetizer and a Alaska cod entree; both were delicious. Ambiance was quiet and decor was a pleasure to view. Overall the best experience we had in the North End where we had two other meals, both good but no comparison.
Great experience - had the great Tuna truffle crudo, oysters, lobster tail pasta. Only slight disappointment was the cocktails we had which weren’t stellar. Learned the regular barman wasn’t in that day :-( got great lemonchello shots to compensate though.
Oh and an amazing flourless chocolate cake with hazelnut ice cream. Overall a great night !
It was way too noisy. We were behind the bar and had a cold breeze blowing on us throughout dinner. Customers waiting to use the restroom were backed up around the tables, not good.
Service was poor. The food lacked flavor. It was a very expensive, disappointing meal.
The tuna was outstanding!!
The menu was too basic, lacked a large selection of fresh fish from the bay. However, the ambiance of sitting in an open air cafe style upscale restaurant was wonderful. The lobster pillows are to die for and a baked stuffed ocean crawler will set you back $79. But the food was delicious!
We had a great experience start to finish. The only complaint was that the aisle between the rows of tables was a bit tight so my chair was bumped into a few times and service staff kicking my shoes which happened frequently enough that it was memorable. Seems like an odd thing to complain about but truly everything else was really great. It's a bit pricey but compared to other restaurants at that price point the value was definitely present. Great oysters and seafood.
Been to the previous location and loved both of them. Delicious, fresh, perfectly prepared seafood. Highly recommend.
Quality of food and wine were excellent.Nice evening at Mare. Lots of wonderful seafood choices and service was very good.
Excellent food. Service was a bit slow due to number of tables waiter was assigned.
Love the location.. food and service could not be better, love mare
The food was great. Private Outdoor seating. Great atmosphere. I would go to this restaurant again.
The baked stuffed lobster is the best! If you like stuffed lobster and you haven't tried this one you are missing the grand prize winner.
