MARCUS DC, by celebrated chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson, blends modern American cooking with Black culinary traditions from D.C. to Ethiopia, and beyond. Inspired by heritage, the seasons and a sense of place, the menu features mambo-sauced roast chicken, grilled whole bass and dry-aged tomahawk steak. Swediopian, a dish of cured salmon, goldenberry broth, fennel and a teff crisp, mirrors Saumelsson's birthplace and the land where he was raised. Executive chef Anthony Jones, a true Marlyander, brings his own story with dishes like Mel's Crab Rice with early summer mushroom, hot sauce pickled okra, and uni béarnaise, an ode to his favorite crab shack in Calvert County.

The food was incredible! We started with Scallops, Oysters, and Blue Cornbread followed by the NY strip, salmon, and crab rice. We got a glass of champagne and the Browned Butter cocktail. Everything was so good, but the crab rice stole the show. We could’ve gotten that + the blue cornbread and scallops and been just fine. We also got all of this for under $300 which is incredible.

From the moment I arrived, Nancy greeted me with such kindness and she was very accommodating to say the least. The atmosphere struck the perfect balance between warm elegance and relaxed comfort, setting the stage for what would become an unforgettable meal. Let’s talk about the food — scrumptious doesn’t even begin to describe it. Every dish was a celebration of flavor and craftsmanship. We started with the blue corn bread, the oyster on the half shell, then the 3 of us shared the grilled sea bass, we decided to experience all 3 companions (sides), we thought we would conclude our dining experience with the flourless chocolate cake but that greedy spirit got the best of us and we we had to sample the seared scallops and I was so glad we did. But what truly elevated the entire experience was Chef Anthony, not only did the food speak volumes, but he also made a point to personally visit our table. He answered our questions about the menu and welcomed feedback with genuine enthusiasm. His hospitality was unmatched and added a personal touch by taking a photo with us. I will definitely go back and highly recommend this restaurant. We rated our overall dining experience a strong 9.8!!

Ana was a fantastic waitress, explaining the food choices in great detail. Food was amazing, both taste and presentation. Great service all around - never felt rushed.

What an experience and I can't wait to go back. The food was delicious (get the crab fried rice) and the service was top notch.

Great food, service, staff, ambiance. Loved my experience. We had a dinner to celebrate my birthday and everything was tasty and the presentation was also beautiful. Definitely will be back!

Marcus DC need to improve on customer service! The food took forever to arrive to the table and when it did the order was not complete. The management on duty failed miserably.

I celebrated my birthday at Marcus DC and had an amazing time. EVERY dish was thoughtfully curated and extremely flavorful. My family & I cannot wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

It was exciting to visit Marus Samuelson's new place in DC. The food is creative, and excellently prepared. The place was lively and busy. We had delicious cocktails, rock fish, misu cauliflower, Swediopia (cured salmon), scallops and cornbread. The use of teff and bebere was especially lovely as a testament to Ethiopian cuisine. Our only disappointment was the service. From the minute we arrived we felt very rushed. Our server was excellent and kind but we had very little time to relax and enjoy the company and the meal because of the many interruptions: asking us to order, asking if they should take away our plates (when we still had food on the table), bringing all the food at once rather than pacing it (the option was not offered to pace the meal). Too many people with too much interaction and too little time to relax, in summary. It would be good to let the client breathe. In the end we were even asked to vacate the table at 10:30 as they were closing.
