we are there during MANTA Ray feeding, was great
We waited over an hour for our main course. It never came. The order never got turned in or it got lost. So we left
It can be difficult to get a table at Manta if you're not staying at the Mauna Kea but we were lucky to get in at the last minute on Open Table. Food is consistently good here and the atmosphere at sunset is magical. We like to reward ourselves for special occasions and we weren't disappointed.
The food was very tasty; the ambiance was stunning; service was immaculate; prices are very steep, but that is to be expected in a hotel like this.
Food presentation on the plates can still be refined
We had an absolutely SPECTACULAR meal. My daughter and I had the macademia nut-encrusted Mahi Mahi, and my husband had the tagatelle with fresh lobster, crab and squid. Both dishes were wonderful! My son (who doesn't like seafood) declared that this was the best burger he's ever had. For dessert, we had the mud pie, passion fruit ice cream, and the vanilla souffle with Grand Marnier en glace. All were delicious! Add to that, 5 star service and a perfect view of the ocean, including being able to watch divers swim with 12' manta rays in the bay just below us. A magical place - we will definitely be back!
Everything was perfect! A must for the dining experience.
Beautiful overlooking water. Excellent food and service.
Manta is a great place for a sunset dinner. Beautiful views and outstanding food. A really incredible experience
Manta is a very good dining experience for Hawaii. The frois gras was great and the oysters were very clean and delicious. Its a bit pricey but everything in Hawaii is that way. We ate there twice during our trip. I would recommend the setting is spectacular.
Very expensive. Food wasn’t great. Service and ambiance was nice. Would’ve enjoyed it much better if the food was good. 6 people and everyone didn’t like their food.
We came to Manta for a scenic dinner experience to celebrate our anniversary. This restaurant’s sunset over the bay was absolutely gorgeous and to top it off we had a live band. The staff was very professional and kind. The food was the kind of fine dining you would want to enjoy when you celebrate a special occasion. We ordered the lobster tempura, sea scallops, mahi mahi, and finished with a delicious soufflé. All of the items were perfect! Thank you for the wonderful experience we will come back again! 10/10
Food was pretty decent but our waitress was terrible! Waited forever and barely talked to us.
A wonderful meal in an exquisite setting. We had dinner after sunset. Dinner was excellent and service outstanding. The lobster tempura, veal chop and lamb chops were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. They have an excellent selection of wines by the glass.
On the pricier side but the food was so delicious, it was well worth it!
First time at Manta, beautiful view and ambience! The food was exquisite! Sylvia, our server, was simply amazing and knows how to take photos! Many thanks to everyone!
The food and service were excellent. The setting and ambience are beyond description. Watching the sun drop into the Pacific while the waves are crashing in on the rocks below is a most wonderfully memorable experience.
So so food at very expensive prices- definitely paying for the awesome view and beautiful restaurant.
Amazing service and food. Unique ambiance with mantas
Excellent food, sunset view, beautiful grounds. Manta ray viewing after dark was astonishing!
Let’s just start with the view. “Worth the price of admission” as they say! The view of the bay, at sunset…priceless. Evelyn was our server and was wonderful. We started with the seafood platter. So fresh and delicious. I had Caesar salad and the Kanpachi with scallops. Also delicious. My husband had a steak and said it was perfectly seasoned. Our guest had the mahi mahi and loved it. We finished with a shared soufflé (be sure to order it early). It is beyond indulgent, but light and airy so the guilt is short lived!
Live jazz music from the Manta Lounge just further enhanced the evening.
Expensive? Yes. But we had a wonderful, memorable dinner and hope to return soon.
Cool trade winds lightly blow thru your hair on the outside dining option. Recommend making your reservation 30 minutes before sunset for twilight time. The food was farm/ocean to table fresh and pleasing to the eye and the palette.
Bronson our waiter and Arnel, Bus.. were attentive and provided excellent service. Mahalo Chef! Caution, Mauna Kea needs to upgrade the restrooms toilets from the 1960’s to current day height. Other than that- it was fantastic. Until next time.- A hui hou!
Sunset was AMAZING! The service superb. Overall 10!
This has to be the nicest dining experience on the Big Island. Gorgeous view, excellent service and hospitality, delicious meals. 100% can’t go wrong!
Lobster tail cooked perfectly! Nice sized portions, moist fresh mahi mahi in delicious sauce. Very attentive service! Loved the ocean view and sunset!
Very nice view. Best service . Great food and amazing drinks 🍹
Best evening ever. Five stars all the way around. We’ll definitely go back. A little concerned first about valet parking, it was our only choice. It too was fast and free with validation. Beautiful Hotel and Great experience.
I hate to leave bad reviews but at over $150/person I expected at least a decent meal with good service. The oysters were not good. The lobster bisque was good but came out barely warm. We got the veal and the filet and asked for medium rare and both came out dry and well done. It took almost 40min for our entrees to come out. Perhaps they were understaffed because we barely saw our waiter, but it didn’t seem like the restaurant was half full. The view is great from the restaurant but you can get that for free. Sad to say but dinner at Hau Tree had better service and although the menu is more fast food it was at least hot and not overcooked when it came.
By far the best service we’ve ever received. It was a beautiful setting, great waiter, and delicious food.
Hotel resort dining while on vacation
Beautiful location and setting. Mai Tais are the best outside of merrimans. Food is good not great and overpriced but you’re paying for the location. My favorite restaurant for a special occasion on the big island.
Vacation . Nick was top notch as our waiter. Beautiful location. Food great
We had a fabulous experience. View, service, and food were all top notch. We will cherish our beautiful dinner at Manta for many years to come.
View looking out to bay was great. Food was okay for the price, not spectacular.
Overall a great experience. From the moment we came in the hostess greeted us and our table was already prepared. We were sat at a perfect outside location during sunset with no obstruction to our view. Service was great, the food was delicious and presentation was perfect.
Great views from the restaurant
Staff were very helpful and food was first class
Very good service. Food was ok for the price. Will probably go back.
Amazing location and view. Food was good, not great. You pay for the view and it’s worth it
Everyone very attentive - excellent customer service. My macadamia nut crusted mahi-mahi was amazing. Loved my mai-tai. The setting is truly stunning with ocean view for sunset
They are very understaffed. Our drinks were made promptly but delivered to us melted. Our raw oysters sat so long to be delivered to us they were in a pool of melted ice and had to be sent back as inedible. The main courses were delivered hot and tasted good. They were the only reason the Manta got above one star given the premium price point, even in Hawaii.
