Amazing ocean views. Service was great and food was amazing. We had the Ahi and catch of the day - very fresh and tasty. Beautiful presentation.
Excellent food served in a beautiful natural surroundings with a view of the beach at Mauna Kea Resort and the amazing vista of Mauna Loa and the Kona Coast. We chose Mac Nut Mahi Mahi and we were not disappointed. Try the Ahi TareTare to start and the Souffle to finish. Afterwards, walk down to the observation platform after dark and watch the Manta Rays feed on the plankton attracted to the light from the the observation area overlooking Kauna'oa Bay.
One of my favorite restaurants on the coast. It’s always a pleasure to eat here the food is great service excellent and you can’t beat the view. Just one little complaint, it’s a little pricey.
Wonderful Sunday Brunch at the Moana Kea at Manta, just liked I remembered it to be. It had been many years since we were last there, while on the resort it is a different location that it was 15 years ago it is still wonderful and food quality great!!
Everything was overcooked , especially the white shrimps pasta.
Service was OK, but no attention to details such as serving ladies first.
Romantic setting...excellent service, delicious entrees and all in all a great night.
We could see Manta Rays from the table we had and the food was delicious. As it was our anniversary they served a totally unexpected dessert which was absolutely blissful
First time to big Island this was an amazing experience. Watched the sunset and later watch the boats carry people to swim with the Manta rays at night. Food was outstanding, service excellent. One the most beautiful settings on the island.
The view and outside dining make this the best restaurant on Hawaii.
Butter Fish was amazing paired with a nice Chardonnay.
Outdoor seating is open enough that other conversations do not intrude. Great menu.
Manta was our first choice to celebrate our anniversary while in Hawaii. The table they seated us at was the best spot to watch the sunset and enjoy a glass of wine. The sunset was one of the best we have ever experienced. The menu had several local catches and especial dishes. We both opted for local caught fish and it did not disappoint. The staff was very attentive and friendly. After dinner as we sat and watched the activity in the bay as the boats arrived to night dive with the manta rays right off shore. A memorable night!
Nice evening out. We were seated outside and were able to enjoy sunset with cocktails and then started on a bottle of wine before ordering our entrees. Very relaxing. Outstanding service. Then after dinner we walked down to view the manta rays coming in close to shore. And a great wine list, I might say.
The evening was perfect in regard to the view and temperature we couldn’t have planned it better. We were grateful!
The waiter was attentive and gave us plenty of time to enjoy our beverages, as well as dinner.
We each had a different salad and each of us enjoyed it.
Two of us had the lamb and it was delicious.
We also had the chocolate soufflé which was also delicious.
We had a great evening at Manta. Highly recommend for dinner.
We ate here three times during our stay at Mauna Kea. Food and ambiance was excellent. Our server Chloe (2 out of the 3 times) was so delightful. Great service! Manta is fortunate to have her.
What an amazing experience. We have been to Maui and the Big Island. Definitely the best restaurant so far between the two islands we have been. Service...great. Atmosphere...great. The view during sunset... beautiful! Drinks... great! Food... so great! We are so happy we decided to dine at Manta!
Every thing was absolutely fabulous! From the food to the service to the whole environment...it was fantastic!!! I would definitely go back and advise everyone to try the "Sunday Brunch" at the "Mauna Kea Beach Resort Manta Restaurant"
One of the best SUnday brunch offerings. We were worried that Marriott might change it after they took over, but it’s every bit as good as it was in the past.
We ate the Manta on 6 of the 8 nights we were are there. The food and drinks are wonderful. The sunset view is surpassed by none. Perfect restaurant and fabulous service.
It was an extremely windy night on the Kohala Coast, and our table was outside. We were cold, and some of the food blew off the plate. Finally someone brought us shawls, which helped, but at last, we asked to be moved inside for dessert. Our server was pretty nonchalant - not up to the the standard for a restaurant of this caliber. The food was good, but overall we felt that this was not the top-notch experience we expected for a meal for two that cost over $200.
Great. The f
For those staying a week or more there should be more entree selections.
As always the food was fantastic, the service impeccable, and the view absolutely stunning. Never disappoints.
Setting couldn't,t be better. Very beautiful and relaxing. Wanted to try some restaurants, at different resorts but decided, Why!. We kept returning to "Manta".
Every course was extremely slow. 40 minute wait to get a scoop of ice cream for dessert. We supposedly had two wait staff but you would never know it. Took forever just to order a second glass of wine. Very disappointing.
We are staying at the Mauna Kea Resort and love their premier restaurant. The food is wonderful, service superior, and view is the best. Great food, sunset view, could not be better.
The Manta is just perfect, old school service with a great "modern" menu. I put "modern" in quotes because if you want a great steak or a caesar salad you can still have it here as well. I've been to the Manta many times over the years to celebrate and the view can't get any better. If you are a romantic - this is the perfect setting. Too bad I can't visit the Island more often.
Great fish dishes and the crispy crab fried rice was great. Only downfall is we were charged $30 bucks for a double shot of bourbon. That is crazy!!!
I would recommend Manta for breakfast. Their dinners are fine, nothing special.
You cannot enjoy a meal at a more beautiful spot. Manta seated us at a table we asked for so we could see the suset. The fresh fish we ordered was excellent and the presentation was very appealing. Great spot, great food, great sevice sums it up. Try it, you won't be diaappointed!
Excellent food and great service. No issues with everyone friendly
My wife's regular Mai Tai, tempura shrimp, and Yukon potatoes were excellent as we expected. My special Mai Tai was not as good as the regular Mai Tai, My Mahi Mahi was bland. Very disappointed in my dinner compared to all of the times we have eaten at the Manta. Breakfast buffet was delicious. The Fredricos in the Copper Bar were terrific.
What happened? We’ve been coming to The Mauna Kea for decades and the food was always terrific. Last two nights, average but overpriced food. I expect overpriced, i never expect average. Breakfast buffet was excellent but dinners we’re going to have to leave the resort. Please fix this. I love this place and want to keep coming back.
Everything was ONO-LICIOUS! From service to food 👌🏻
We told the hostess we were celebrating an engagement, but no one ever said anything about it. It took a 1/2 hour just to get our drinks. It was so dark we couldn’t see the menu; 3 times we were told they would get us a candle, but no one ever did so I finally got one off another table. It was a two hour dinner but all we had were entrees- no dessert no appetizer no salads and it still took 2 hours. Our waitress would just disappear and we would wait and wait and wait. Worst service I’ve ever had in Hawaii!
We used to love this place. But the menu has changed a bit. The food really didn’t taste great. Some mistakes were made. And we just didn’t love our experience this time. Sad for the high prices and not up to what we expect from the Mauna Kea resort.
Outstanding in every way! Best view of a world-class beach on the island.
We enjoyed the wonderful seafood dishes the tagliatelle shrimp pasta along with the mahi mahi over book Hoya did creamy mashed potatoes..absolutely divine. We started of course with the delicious cornbread although the regular bread with the blackened sea salt was just as wonderful. The dessert was the wonderfully delicious soufflé accompanied with a dark chocolate sauce.
Although we didn’t see the manta at Mantas as it was dark the drive and ambiance was well worth the trip!
We had a fabulous meal at Manta -- white shrimp appetizer, mahi mahi entee, seared ahi entree, and the pasta with shrimp. Spectacularly beautiful location overlooking Mauna Kea beach. The servers were attentive and helpful without being overly intrusive or upselling. The French white wines by the glass were also excellent. While the meal was not cheap, it was good value considering the setting. I'll definitely be back -- for the right special occasion.
