Ambiance was nice. Presentation was good. Service was ok. Food was not good. Mahi mahi was overcooked. Corn bread Was undercooked. Ahi was good but other items on the plate were just ok. They put chocolate soufflé on table and just left it. Had to ask for plates and for them to serve it. Not what I expect at those prices and at the Mauna Kea.
Unbelievable venue, very tranquility with great views. Outstanding food and service. Excellent wine selection.
The service and quality of the food was great as usual.
Great waitress and beautiful views.
Beautiful view, impeccable service. The only complaint I had was the feral cats. They were walking around all the tables and even around our feet.
Excellent customer service and great food. Recommended
Our best meal on the island ! Great service and food.
For the price the quality of food does not compare to the canoe house or merrimans
I would not go back except for drinks
I enjoyed an appetizer seafood platter. For my main course I had a pasta dish with shrimp abd Mudd Pie for dessert.
Excellent experience! Beautiful atmosphere! Will be back.
Casual but upscale.
Very good selection of dishes
Very good food presentation
And the dinners few very good
Always love our time at Mauna Kea and dining at Manta.
Can’t wait for the buffet to return!!
Food, service, location = awesome!
This was our last night on the island and we couldn't have picked a more beautiful location. The ambiance was amazing. We sat in very front facing the ocean. We ordered the caprese and ceasar salad, Maui and the tempura lobster...both amazing and cooked perfectly. My husband thought they had the best Mai Tai of the entire trip. A little pricey on the drinks but well worth it. We will definitely return. Aloha!
wonderful evening, staff and service was spot on which is what you would expect from a top notch restaurant, food presentation and quality was exceptional. go early for the sunset and outdoor seating!
Just very average felt like a McDonalds. Not special at all.
We wanted something in our hotel for our arrival night. Couldn’t get more convenient. And the ambience overlooking the ocean and Manta Ray spot was beautiful!
Hubby had lamb chops and unfortunately they were about half fat. They were tasty but just not much meat to eat. I had seafood special which was moist and tender. Not a very big piece of fish though especially for the price.
Biggest issue they need to fix is timing of service. We sat for quite a while with only water. We finally ordered a tomato salad and entrees. We got some bread and waited for salad. And waited. They waitress came over 3 times to apologize for how long it was taking. It finally came out and no sooner had we started to eat it when our entrees came out. And those were lukewarm to cold. Timing was way off.
They did bring us a delicious piece of mud pie for our anniversary which was nice. And oh so good. Overall, we weren’t particularly full and felt we overpaid for what we got. A few tweaks and this restaurant could be wonderful.
Best Macnut mahi we’ve had on the island. Nick was a super
Go for the great service and view, food underseasoned, just okay. Mantas under the light and view from above them, amazing!!!
Good food, wonderful setting, and excellent service all combined to a really special evening dinner experience at the Manta Ray restaurant .
This is one of our favorite restaurants on the island! Everything is perfection! Your staff is wonderful & the food is amazing!
Wonderful restaurant with a great view.
Fantastic setting, service, and food.
Delicious lamb chops and the white shrimp as well.
The tomato, balsamic and chèvre salad was scrumptious!
Idyllic setting with a rocking crescent moon and a sky full of stars. Tiki torches lit the terrace beautifully.
It was great fun to go down to the edge of the terrace and look out in the dark ocean and see the lights of snorkelers illuminating the graceful manta rays. Truly magical.
My food was lukewarm and parts actually cold. My husband’s fish was very overcooked. Very overpriced. Would not recommend.
You can’t go wrong! Everything here is wonderful. The food, views and service💕
Amazing dinner and excellent service. Our waitress, Richelle, was superb!
Gorgeous sunset. Can't beat the view. Ask for a table close to the edge of the patio for best view and quiet dinner. Wonderful staff and service. Food was very good but quite pricey for entrees etc. Loved the sashimi appetizer, shrimp tagliatelle dish and mud pie. Pressed coffee was a lovely end to the meal. Thank you to the staff for a celebratory birthday meal!
Amazing location and view! Started with the oysters which my husband enjoyed and the beef carpaccio which was very disappointing. Felt like I was eating roast beef lunch meat with some toppings. We had the special fish dish of the evening which was opakapaka and lobster and incredible and the Kona White Shrimp Tagliatelle was also very good despite the shrimp being a bit over done. We also had the Za'atar Scented Ahi which was just okay. The star of the night for me was the vanilla soufflé with the grand marnier sauce (better than the lilikoi sauce we also tried). Overall the service was just okay and there were glimpses of perfection with the location, the fish special & the soufflé dessert. I would go back on my next trip to the big island.
Great location. Great view. Food was below expectations. My wife ordered the catch of the day, Sea bass. I ordered seared ahi tuna. Both were flavorless. Tomato salad was unripe. Lobster salad and dressing were exceptional.
However, the service was excellent and the drinks were delicious. We will definitely return.
Romantic backdrop, phenomenal food and attentive service. A favorite....had forgotten just how special this place was. Will be repeating definitely!
It has been a few years since our last visit to Big Island, but we always have Manta on our must-do list, and it was just as we had remembered. We allowed enough time to catch the sunset and go down the short path where the manta rays come in to feed, there were three this evening. Food is small portions but ton of flavor, sashimi app, Caesar salad were great starters, mahi mahi was exceptional. We did vanilla lava cake, I should have gone with chocolate. My only gripe: wine by the glass is crazy price for about 3oz pour, better to just get the bottle. Overall best dinning experience of our trip, just a slight bit ahead of CanoeHouse.
We had a beautiful table. We waited a 1/2 hour before we were greeted by server and only after my husband asked. We did get water and bread during that time. Once the server came, service was much better. The food was very good, however I felt there could have been more seafood in the Frutti De Mare @ 65.00 it had only 2 each of shrimp, scallops, small lobster tail. I have had it with much more seafood.
Dinner at the Manta this weekend was picture perfect. The view is outstanding and the sunset amazing. Where was live music and the music talent top notch! We had the local snapper that was created perfectly. The skin was crisp and the fish absolutely as moist as can be. We loved our waiter Kanoa and hope to see him and all the Manta crew again soon!
This is without a doubt one of the best restaurants on the Big Island. Great food, excellent wine list, great service and stunning views.
Manta is excellent, we go here several times per month.
We have eaten at Manta several times over the years, but due to the pandemic it's been over two years since our last time. The menu has changed, but for the better. We were very happy with all our selections. Service was mostly good, but there were some issues with timing the courses and it felt like we were being rushed a bit. However, we did have 2 kids, and in the end, a brisker pace was fine. Still it was a bit annoying to get dessert served before they had even cleared the dinner plates. But aside from that, the food was top notch. We especially enjoyed the Auntie's Garden specialty cocktail for the night (a tropical sour side car concoction) and the Frutti de Mare was excellent for dinner.
