   This place is tremendous, beautiful spot, small, quaint and the experience is fantastic. The wait staff from the top to the bottom are courteous attentive and on the ball. The food is second to none and the price is more than fare. Go enjoy and have a good time. If for some reason that doesn’t happen, you got big problems so don’t worry about that place. Enjoy!!!

   Excellent service and food. Our waitress was wonderful and we got lucky with a beautiful sunset. Great birthday celebration.

   This is one of our favorite places to go in Maui! Food is amazing! The service and ambiance is superb. We had the table outside next to the water. Gorgeous sunset to follow. Thank you Mala Ocean Tavern you did it again. We come every time we’re in Maui.

   Very nice service. Our meals, fresh fish, were excellent. The weak link was the margarita. Very watered down and on cinco de mayo, no less!!

   Our server Thomas was excellent. Entire meal great. Annoying party with crying child next to us on high top the only unpleasant part and that wasn’t Mala’s fault, (bad tourists)

   What a fantastic experience. We were celebrating our anniversary and they presented us with a card signed by every member of the staff and brought us a dessert. Jose was a great server, we sat outside right by the water. Food was delicious. An all around great time.

   This restaurant consistently offers refreshing, well-prepared cocktails, delicious food beautifully presented, attentive service, and a great spot on the shores of Lahaina. The noise level inside can get a bit, well, noisy, so be prepared for that if you happen not to be lucky enough to get a table closer to the water. No bad tables here though, really, and you are in for a great experience.

   We had such a fun evening! Bartender was fun, drinks were good! We had the whole fish which was an experience!! Taste was good but probably would choose another option next time. Will definitely go back!!

   The server was very good. Always good ambience courtesy of Mother Nature. Unfortunately Mala has not returned to their yummy pre-Covid menu with more choices. Sides and preparations often miss the mark for us. Tonight a whole fried opakapaka was our choice. The menu stated the dish came Yukon Gold mash potatoes (or steamed rice or sweet potato) and vegetables with a black bean sauce drizzled over. The vegetables were overcooked, blended with the black bean sauce and into the mashed potatoes which were hardly present. The whole fish was presented beautifully atop the vegetable concoction which unfortunately a pile of mixed mush. The fish was moist, skin crunchy-crispy and very salted. The fish was very good by itself, thankfully. Honestly, we chose the fish because we couldn't figure out what else to order. We always love opakaka and it isn't a fish that is always available. In the past, the food has been very good at Mala. It is the menu that doesn't seem to have many interesting choices. I heard the original owners sold Mala a few years ago. Whatever the reason, we noticed the last few times eaten here, we didn't really find much of interest on the menu. All told, I'm not sure if we will return, for the reasons mentioned.
