Mala Ocean Tavern
Intimate and casually chic overlooking historic Mala Wharf... MALA is the perfect stop on Front Street to have brunch/lunch with friends or dinner with the whole family. MALA 'TIL MIDNIGHT (Starting 2/1/19) features Late Night Happy Hour with Food & Drinks from 10p-12a.
There are views from every seat indoor & outdoor at MALA & many of our guests request oceanfront or patio seating. We can NOT guarantee patio seating, but we do note the request and will do our best to accommodate every guest. If your heart is set on sitting on the patio, please know that you might have to wait past your reservation time to have your preferred seating. We do first come first serve for all seating.
FANTASTIC!! The Ahi Bruschetta is one of the most delicious appetizers I think I’ve ever had anywhere!! The service is friendly and fast! The guitar player outside was outstanding and we could hear it perfectly from our waterfront table in the bar area! I don’t think I can say enough about this place!
Simply an incredible experience !!
We are sold on MALA as one of the premier breakfast stops on the island of Maui. We have been visitors to Maui every year since 1998 and have developed our own list of the best places to experience Aloha in every way from service to ambiance to the critical value of the meal itself. MALA holds one of the best views of the water but also has the best staff of sensitive and competent staff including Josh and Carlos who are the best of the best!
For our family and friends MALA joins the Gazebo, The Pioneer Inn and the Plantation at Kapalua as BEST BREAKFAST in MAUI....Obviously you need to check it out yourself!
Great food and service. Sun was intense as it sits perfectly during sundown. We were all pretty sunbaked at the end. Place is small and tight. As usual packed to the brim with happy folks. Great dining experience.
Don't eat late, all the food came at once. Felt rushed. Also received poor attitude from check in lady who wanted to sit us at a poor table
Consistently excellent food, not to beat oceanfront view, friendly staff and i love that you can get breakfast too until 2pm! My go to place in Lahaina.
My husband and I make sure to have dinner at Mala whenever we’re in Maui. We love the high energy and great service.
Our “go to” dish is the wok fried whole fish, and last night we savored that delicacy yet again. Every bone sucking, delicious bite was pure heaven. A pre Valentine special treat, for sure!
Great food, nice service. TOO loud!!
Took good care of us, but patrons at bar were very loud,a
We met charming people and had wonderful service.
Great food, nice service. We went there twice in one week!
The ahi bruchetta appetizer is one of the best things I've ever eaten. Incredible don't miss it. Get there early and enjoy the Maui sunset.
Excellent service. Amazing view! Great food!
It was my sisters birthday and the staff made everything perfect. The table location, food and staff were all amazing !!
Great food, location, and servers. Oyster shooters were yummy!
After visiting Maui for more than twenty years, we finally shared our first meal with the wonderful folks at MALA. Our breakfast was more than we could have expected and service was great. We would recommend this place as our new best find in Maui...we are slow but always looking for the new best time in Lahaina!
One recommendation ...don’t think about coming without a reservation. MALA is very popular and the best tables are in great demand! Aloha!
We have been coming here for a long time, years! Food is consistently good and it’s a small, family like atmosphere! Oyster shooters, ahi bruschetta are my favorites, but there is something for everyone! We’ve had brunch the other day and trust me, a they are hearty breakfasts!
Food okay, but cold eggs Benedict. Pricey for what you get.
The food is amazing and our server Mike was so kind and attentive. Go here!
Casual dining at its best! The Asian seafood pasta was excellent.
Definitely will be back!
Great service, drinks and meal. Servings were plentiful!
Mala Ocean Tavern was a complete surprise. This unassuming shack on the beach overlooking Molokai, produced some incredible food. The dinner we had was delicious, starting with the Ahi Tartare. Moving to the main course, I had the Mahi Mahi special, perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned so you could taste the delicate meat of the fish. My dining partner had the stir fry, which was huge. In fact we took half of it home for lunch the next day and it fed us both. Delicious both meals. The outdoor deck has amazing views, but unfortunately the night we dined there, the wind was pretty strong, so we opted for an indoor table. Still had a clear view outside to watch the sunset. Very romantic! A bit pricey, buy highly recommended.
Despite the heavy traffic, reception was polite and efficient. The staff was engaging. New ownership has done well and should continue to make Mala one of our favorite spots.
We were very disappointed in a variety of ways at this restaurant. From greeting to end of meal I felt our table was treated as we were bothering waitstaff each time we made a request (including ordering). Our waiter was very friendly to the neighboring tables, but not so to us. The food was OK, but we will not be back. (Also, I ended up not feeling well all afternoon after having fish. May have been me, but didn't help matters.)
Amazing staff and the place was jamming. They did a great job getting everyone seated and served. Food was excellent with great selection.
Place is one of our favorite go tos.
Mahalo plenty to the staff at Mala.
While not as good as it formerly was, we had a most enjoyable meal at Mala. The benedict and omelette special were just ok, but my avocado toast with scrambled eggs was delicious. It was disappointing that they had run out of the sticky buns, but we settled for malasadas which were quite tasty. The service was busy but good.
Nice location and good selection of items in the menu but not quite worth the expense and a fairly crowded experience overall. The food was fine, but not exceptional.
This place just gets better and better!!! Highly recommend. Maybe a little too noisy esp. if you have hearing aids.
Wonderful as always
Though it was raining an they could not seat people on the deck, they managed to seat everyone with a reservation at good tables.
Make reservations for waterside seating. The food and dessert is amazing! The view is perfect right down on the water.
Great food great time
We had eaten here a few years ago and absolutely loved it. We were a little concerned about the change in ownership, but once again it was a great evening. The waitstaff is aware but unobtrusive. The food beautifully prepared and delicious. It’s not elegant but the atmosphere overall is great. Will definitely eat there again. The grilled octopus with chorizo and fingerling potatoes was great!
Much better quality then other restaurants where we dined so far in Lahaina. Patio would be better in terms of noise. Otherwise an excellent choice.
We make it a point to dine at MaLa Ocean Tavern every time we are luckily enough to be in Maui. We have never had even an “OK” meal. The food and service is always consistently excellent. Absolutely recommend it!
Great food and drinks. Great service with a packed house.
I arrived on time for my reservation and was told I could not be seated for 45 minutes. Not happy. Restaurant was extremely noisy and our food was terrible. Good service did not make up for all of these shortcomings.
Mala continues to be my favorite Maui restaurant. Never disappoints. They do their best to honor table requests which is greatly appreciated.
Mala’s is our FAVORITE restaurant! Great location, friendly staff, excellent service, terrific cocktails, delicious food, fresh and innovative menu. Fabulous!
Its quarters are tight, and other good restaurants offer oceanside seating. The Mediterranean influence is refreshing among restaurants that serve an abundance of macadamian-nut encrusted fish. Servers were pleasant, but should try to help discuss proportions more accurately, especially for the wok fried fish. The fish was good, but unexpectedly large for one person to eat (especially with appetizers prior to entree) and no ability to take leftovers to a hotel.
