Mais Arepas is a Colombian restaurant that specializes in the signature dish of the country: the arepa. For those that aren't familiar, an arepa is essentially a sandwich where the bread is made from a unique ground maize dough that gives it an exceptionally soft and chewable texture. Virtually any filling can go in an arepa, and while there are many traditional recipes, places like Mais Arepas like to experiment with fillings.
Mais Arepa serves many different kinds of arepas. There is the cerda with Colombian-style pulled pork, pickled onions, plantains and cotija cheese as well as the reina with shredded chicken, avocado, green peppers and lime. The signature side dish at Mais Arepa is the plantains, which are fried and turned into chips. Both arepas and plantains are naturally gluten-free, and so they are an excellent choice for diners with dietary restrictions.
