We ate here one lunch hour with a small group of coworkers. The buffet was fresh, varied, and included several options for dessert. When we went it wasn't all that busy so the server tended to hoover a bit but I suppose it's better than being ignored which can frequently happen when eating in a buffet situation. It's a bit expensive but there really isn't many cheap options in downtown Calgary.
I wished the buffet was available after the show in Thursday night, but our food was still great. One suggestion would be a 'dinner for two, three, four..' Suggested menus.
Excellent food and wide menu. Decent prices
Very well located by the Calgary Tower
Nice place to have a group, family or couple dining
Good variety for lunch. We were not asked if we wanted drinks. All of us in our party enjoyed our lunch.
Food was fabulous and very economical. My wife and I dined for under $100 including a bottle of wine (excl tip). It was quiet on a Saturday night as the show crowd had left so it was strange being in a sparsely populated place on a Saturday night. I will definitely come back.
I was so glad to find that Maharajah was reopened! The atmosphere is lovely and bright. The food is amazing, fresh and varied. The service is perfection.
Service wad fantastic and buffet was delicious and hss plenty of options
Dined here as a group of 4; ordered 3 dishes plus rice and naan bread. Server was very friendly and prompt at taking drink and food order. She told us it was her first night at the restaurant but she did very well; we did not have many hard questions. Food came quickly and was quite good; we had vegetable, lamb and prawn dishes and they were all very tasty. Restaurant was not very busy (Friday night; located a bit away from the "hot" spots). Biggest negative was that it was cold; we asked if the temp could be adjusted (we noticed a lot of diners at other tables were all wearing sweaters and coats) and response was that the temperature was in part controlled by the building due to the semi-open ceilings. It didn't really affect our enjoyment of the meal.
The food never disappoints. Their buffet has a great selection and they also offer take out. It is quiet at lunch as their location is tucked away a bit out of the core, more people should venture over to the tower.
There were five of us in our lunch party. This was the first time we had tried this place. We will definately be back. Food was very good. Trays were kept full. One lady even got a lunch box to go for her husband to have that night. Will definately be going back here.
The host is always smiling and ready to meet your every need!
We came here for the Friday night buffet before heading to a theatre show. We allowed an hour because for a buffet the food is already to go. What we didn't know (and the website wasn't clear in this), is that the buffet doesn't begin until 5:30. The food did not start coming out until about 5:40. Our server let us know when the salads were out so we started with that and then by the time we were done salads the rest had been brought out. We had to leave by 6:00 so we were way more rushed that we preferred. Had I known the time of the buffet start I would have eaten somewhere else. Our service was great and the food was delicious. We ran out of time for dessert.
I am a big fan of Indian food so I was very excited to try this new restaurant downtown. We walked to the restaurant and we had a hard time locating it as the sign is hidden behind a large concrete pillar... If I were driving there is no way that I would have seen the sign at all.
The interior was poorly decorated but we were there for the food so that din't matter too much. We were seated promptly with no menus or drink orders taken. We sat at our table for five minutes before I got up and helped myself to two menus. The waiter pointed towards the buffet table but there was no communication. I asked what the price was, I asked if we could still order off the menu as I had my eye on a dish that wasn't on the buffet. I felt like I had to pull teeth to get the basic information.
We were never asked for drinks and I walked up to the waiter and ordered a chai tea standing up in the middle of the restaurant 15 minutes after we arrived - It took 30 minutes for the tea to come and we were literally finished our lunch! We decided to go with the Buffet given how slow everything was. The food was okay. Nothing special and nothing compared to Mango Shiva.
We then had to ask for our bill.... Overall the service was HORRIBLE and I will never go back or recommend this restaurant.
Just two blocks north is Mango Shiva, an authentic and delicious East Indian Restaurant with top notch professional service and real authentic food.
This place sucks! Firstly, I was dining alone and was seated in the absolute center of the restaurant, where absolutely everyone could watch me eat. Nothing like that to set the tone. Secondly, the parking sucks! Thirdly, the server kept redirecting me to the pathetic buffet, rather than letting me order from the menu. I got tired of arguing, because every time I told him what dish I wanted, his reply was "It is in the buffet"! Point was, I wanted it made fresh, so I could take home leftovers! Finally, the buffet was cold!
I was excited to see that Maharajah was open again in a new location. The food was amazing...from the veggie pakoras to the Lamb Kashmiri and every other dish we tried! The garlic naan was the best I have had. I would definitely recommend this restaurant . I
Went for Big Taste with a group - the pakoras and samosas tasted fresh and were still crispy! Portions were ample, and the Goan fish curry, while not spicy, packed a lot of flavour! The menu is vegetarian and meatatarian friendly. And the server was helpful and really nice. Overall - it beat our initial expectations for flavour, authenticity, and value. A downtown little gem for Indian....delicious from first bite to last!
