Magics Beach Grill
Hostess was very unwelcoming
Waiter was over stretched and forgot our appetizer.
Food was over priced.
Great location but not very “ magical”.
Great place to take visitors to try out our Island food.
Amazing location but the food is very very expensive for the quality that you get. Awesome happy hour though...
Loved it. Very friendly, fun local server made all the difference. Food was great also.
They cancelled our reservation with Open Table after we were seated. I had to call them to correct it so I would get my points.
We were promptly seated outside but the table still had dirty plates and the check and cash still on the table. The host apologized and cleaned it for us. It took 20 minutes for our waitress to arrive and 35 minutes before we got our drinks. We ordered an appetizer and entrees and received everything at once after waiting 40 minutes. We ordered the poke bowl which was mostly rice and crab cakes that were soggy. We ordered dessert which never came out. We cancelled it and asked for the check. We would not go back.
We made a reservation to enjoy the sunset and then have dinner at Magics and were not disappointed. Our server was Jacqueline and she was such a personable and amazing waitress. The resturant sits right on the shore of Magic Beach. The food was served hot, was very appealing to the eye, and the Ono was cooked to perfection. All and all a very enjoyable dinner experience.
Great location. Seating outside not fancy enough for the price of the food.
Recomended by a friend, and now highly recorded by us!
We’ve wanted to try Magic’s for a while, and now that we’ve been, we can’t believe we waited so long! The entire experience from arrival to dining to departure was superb. When you arrive, you immediately see the handcrafted koa wood and local artwork. Next you notice that the design scheme is modern, warm, and welcoming. Then you look across the restaurant to see waves crashing all around it, and your mouth drops open in awe. And that’s all before you start eating!
We were greeted warmly by our server who did a great job with our drinks order. He offered to have me taste a champagne to see if I liked it (not my favorite, I switched), then he brought a better one quickly. We placed our order and were mesmerized by the waves crashing on Magic Sands beach below us-we were seated outdoors on the south lanai.
Once the food arrived, we dug in, and every single course and plate was spot on. My personal favorite was the Jidori roast chicken with umami laden risotto with mushrooms. My husband’s lobster atop Asian pasta was a hit, but very spicy so beware if that’s not your thing.
Magics is a great addition to the beachside dining scene in Kona, give it a try!
Sat outside for sunset dinner. Food was excellent.
Gorgeous views and great food. We'd definitely come back here!
Order blood Mary was very spicy! Order a glass of wine and a beer. It took 45 mins to get our drinks, I order fish Caesar I got chicken Caesar, we also order fish and chip with thousand dress. Never got the thousand Island dress or saw your waitress again. View was great, food was ok very small portions for the price. Good Luck!
Great waiter and ambiance. The food was great, but but small serving for a hungry guy. Overall a nice experience.
Can’t beat the view not a bad seat in the house. Menu is designed to accommodate everyone’s taste from fish to meat, I’m keen on shell fish and wasn’t disappointed.
Great service, friendly and attentive server named Jackie (the best!)
We will return
Host stand is still disorganized, wait staff run off their feet with not enough staff. Food was good though.
Beautiful views, but basic menu and the food was bland at best. Service was OK but the poor guy looked to be covering too many tables. Won’t be adding this into our Kona rotation when we come back to our house next time.
The staff here are amazing, the food was served hot and tasty, beer was cold, views were phenomenal, what more can you ask? We were here at lunch time. Beautiful day with a crowded beach of happy vacationers. Loved it.
Have the fish & chips. Trust me, they’re ono!
Such an amazing evening celebrating the holidays with our kids. The food was incredible, fresh and creative and beautifully presented. Michael our waiter was so attentive and eager to please. We can’t wait to go back!!!
Magic’s is Magic
Very tentative server❤️ Food was delicious and local - Farm to Table
It pains me to say this, but our recent dinner at Magics was mediocre at best - and in the past it's been stellar. The service was S-L-O-W, and the food was lacking. My steak was not cooked to the temperature requested, and my companion asked for a salad with fish added and instead got fish, with a small side of salad. We didn't send anything back because it took so long to get our food in the first place... The restaurant was not crowded. The menu didn't appear to be seasonal. The wait staff was stretched thin. Again, it's really a shame since previous visits have been enjoyable. Will probably give it another chance - with guarded optimism.
There for brunch. Second time at this restaurant which is in our neighbourhood Food still good service still good chairs still uncomfortable. We all want this place to succeed and we will continue to support.
We have been coming here 35 years. This used to be Jameson’s for all of you old-timers who remember it
For you young people, it’s a great place to eat and for us oldies but goodies...great place.
Right on the ocean, great service WONDERFUL FOOD
THIS IS A MUST DINING Experience in Kona
Celebrated my daughters 21st birthday there at the suggestion of some friends. We were extremely pleased with everything. Parking right out front, greeted and seated quickly, our waitress Jackie was excellent and the food was great. We ordered and shared the Ono tacos, Pork belly, Ahi steak and Lobster noodles and all were delicious. Highly recommended!
Food was amazing! The location could not be better, right on the ocean. The staff were just the best.
We had a lovely time enjoying the view from the patio. Staff were really nice.
Food yesterday was sub-par. Fish in the fish and chips was raw in the middle. We both asked for extra crispy french fries and they came under done and limp. Server, however was fantastic.
They were a bit busy, and we had to wait for our reservation and then we waited to order. But, as soon as they realized it, a second waiter came over to help and everything went smoothly. They were very helpful in answering our questions about the menu and making recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal!
The only problem was that we didn't leave room for dessert...so it looks like we'll have to go back. On the other hand, the appetizer of ulu fries with the truffle sauce was totally worth it. Amazing!
We went to brunch which they have on Sundays and it was out of this world!!! The setting is incredible! Right on the beach. The server was so much fun and very cool! And the food was ONO, means delicious in Hawaiian! I had the eggs Benedict with the Ulu scramble.
Thanks Magics for a great experience!!
Birthday celebration. Server was great and good wonderful. Can’t beat the location.
We were there for a special occasion. The food was hit and miss, but what was good was very good. The burger was served with limp, generic fries, while the specialty ulu fries were very good. The fish we had was slightly fishy tasting, but the chicken was quite good. Everything could have been cooked more perfectly.
The service was a little slow, and our server didn't come back for 15 minutes after giving us a dessert menu. The restaurant was far from full.
Service in Kona is kind of iffy, so you never know what to expect. This is my 3rd time at this restaurant and this is the worst service I have had.
Both fish dishes were dry and overcooked. Batter on fish and chips was "chewy", not flakey. Fish smelled old. The view is nice but the food was not. Therefore, would not return.
This was the second time dining at Magic’s in a week. Our first experience was awesome - food, service, everything. This last visit was awful. We waited forever for water and our drink order. Then we waited a long time for food (even after our waitress told us she put our order in front of a large party). The crab cakes were not good and the fish and chip batter resembled bisquick. I feel like they deserve another chance because we had two totally different experiences, but we will see.
The food, cocktails and the view are fantastic. There was a mixup with our reservation but the manager, once she understood the situation, she quickly resolved the issue. Very professional. I believe the error occurred because they are still relatively new and the next time I go they will easily earn 5 stars across the board.
This is the second time going to Magics, 25th time at the same site in years past. I won't be going back because the acoustics are horrible. Could not even talk to my friend because of the nasty noise. I don't remember it being like that when it was carpeted. Also I looked at the menu before going there and I must have been looking at the brunch menu that looked great. Unfortunately brunch is only on the weekends.
The menu as it is is a bore. Bergers, salads, sandwiches. Boring and not good. I was looking for, at least, an eggs Benedict, a quiche an interesting salad, ribs, something more flavorful and interesting. We both left most of our meals on our plates. I've been going to this place since it was Dorians and I've never had a menu as boring and uninspired as this one. The staff tried and were nice, but there's no getting over the bad food.
Michael was an outstanding waiter and the food was delicious!
What an amazing space, You walk in, hear the waves crashing, and get so excited for what is to come. After a beautiful remodel, this restaurant failed to deliver a meal consistent with the environment. The friends we invited to join us had been twice before and were hesitant to go again, but you figure maybe they will figure it out. Maybe not. The Fried ULU wedges were great start but after that downhill we went. The Pork chop was overcooked. The Moco Loco's gravy was flavorless and the burger patty was so over cooked it was tough to cut. The steak frites with crab at $46, was not great, and sure didn't cut like 100% prime. Hard to see us going back.
