Magics Beach Grill
Valentine’s Day dinner. Pretty disappointed. We came here for lunch earlier in the week and loved it so we made reservations to do Valentine’s Day dinner there. It ended up taking two hours to eat. Kitchen was not able to keep up and it was a bummer. I feel like the food suffered because of it, and it made the whole experience unenjoyable. Bummer of a night, and I wish you guys the best!
We had reservations for 2 on Valentines Day, but upon arrival were informed that because of weather it would be 45min to 1hr wait. We decided to sit at bar and ended up just ordering food there. Food was good and staff apologetic and attentive. Due to so many people sitting inside, was very noisy but we have eaten here several times and understand no control over weather. We'll be back, but when the weather cooperates.
Our server was great! However, it started raining while we were eating and nobody offered to move us inside. We finally asked and we’re moved. Otherwise, one of the best dining experiences I have ever had! Food was great and reasonably priced for Hawaii. It is right on the water and we were able to see whales breaching in the distance and the beautiful sunset. Couldn’t have asked for a better Valentine’s Day dinner!
We decided to celebrate Valentine's Day at Magics and experience the diverse, interesting special menu they had developed for the occasion. We enjoyed a 4 course menu with several exotic choices for each course featuring locally sourced ingredients. Ulu Croquettes, Waimea Strawberry Salad, Scallops, Lobster, Steak, Lavender Creme Brule....wow...what a wonderful dinner experience we had! Friendly, efficient service, superbly prepared and presented dishes accompanied by positive energy. We have been coming to Kona for 14 years now and this was the best dinner we have experienced! Dining here is on par with the finest you will find anywhere. Magics is our favourite!!! Well done to the staff and chefs and management for creating this special event and carrying it off so well. Even a bit of rain was efficiently handled by staff who reseated people who were outside and kept the food coming without a hitch.
Very tasty food, desserts were excellent! Our server took good care of us!
Gorgeous setting, delicious-food and fantastic service!
The downside to the restaurant was the service was very slow both for food and drinks. The bartender did a great job of pushing out the drinks but really could have used help. The food we ordered was a great value and very good but being tacos and salads, which are both appetizers, it shouldn’t have taken as long as it did.
Food was delicious and the view of the sunset was spectacular. Service was good, but we did have to wait for a table despite having a reservation and it took a long time to get our food. But overall, it's a lovely place and fun atmosphere, we will return next time we're in Kona.
Four of us and everyone thought their dinner delicious! I had the pork belly entree and it was sooooo yummy!
Medium to small selection but good.
Magics is special because of the location. You are eating right on the water. It is a busy restaurant so the service is less than stellar. I ordered a second glass of wine to go with my dinner. The server came with it just as the bus person was taking away our plates. The Brussel sprout and beet salad was one of the best salads I have ever had. It was made with various flavors that melded well together. The shrimp and risotto was filled with a mediocre pasta that did not resemble risotto at all. Bananas foster desert was outstanding. Personally I think the overall experience and Food at Huggo’s is better
Seating by the hostess was chaotic but once in the service and food was very good. Brussels sprouts were outstanding and beach front tables very nice. We would go back.
Great location and the food was fresh and delicious. Server was cordial and attentive.
Ocean and sunset great
Heavy rain and big waves, but everyone was upbeat and working hard. Great location, especially for sunset. Please bring back the avocado toast!
Not crazy about the menu. Fries were hard and cold. Waitress brought more. They were hot, but still on the hard side. Waitress was great. Hostess did not check us in with Open Table.
I hate to publically say how much I love Magic’s ! Too many people might find out!
Love the variety in their menu
Poke nachos are a full meal w a salad
Had the fish and chips ( the best)
Drinks are creative and fun
Sitting outside watching the waves is so special
Great food and great place to watch the sunset. Parking is sparse, but you can park across street. Kind of spendy, but large portions and high quality food. Caesar salad was best I’ve had on the island
Relaxing and tranquil.
Outstanding view and Micheal made it that much more fun. Food portions are huge, suggest sharing if you are not super hungry. Patty melt and fruit bowl were both enjoyed. Returned the next day for happy, or rather “ magic hour” which starts at 2:00. It’s a winner place.
Food is amazing, wait staff is incredible. They ran out of a number of items, and it was so loud it was difficult to have a conversation. Love the place. Especially out by the water. Get a reservation for the best seating
Beautiful location plus wonderful food and drink.
Great location to get together for lupus and dinner with friends - awesome views of the surf and sunset
Our server heather took good care of us
3 out of 4 diners rated meal poor
Vacation spot for sundown dining. Enjoyed seafood meals: shrimp pasta dish and Ahi tuna. Ulu coquettes appetizer was quite nice. Was able to get in just before sundown and had a nice outside table.
The food was excellent and the view is amazing. This is the place to see sunset. The service was great too!!
I would recommend it to all my friends
Hostess was very unwelcoming
Waiter was over stretched and forgot our appetizer.
Food was over priced.
Great location but not very “ magical”.
Great place to take visitors to try out our Island food.
Amazing location but the food is very very expensive for the quality that you get. Awesome happy hour though...
Loved it. Very friendly, fun local server made all the difference. Food was great also.
They cancelled our reservation with Open Table after we were seated. I had to call them to correct it so I would get my points.
We were promptly seated outside but the table still had dirty plates and the check and cash still on the table. The host apologized and cleaned it for us. It took 20 minutes for our waitress to arrive and 35 minutes before we got our drinks. We ordered an appetizer and entrees and received everything at once after waiting 40 minutes. We ordered the poke bowl which was mostly rice and crab cakes that were soggy. We ordered dessert which never came out. We cancelled it and asked for the check. We would not go back.
We made a reservation to enjoy the sunset and then have dinner at Magics and were not disappointed. Our server was Jacqueline and she was such a personable and amazing waitress. The resturant sits right on the shore of Magic Beach. The food was served hot, was very appealing to the eye, and the Ono was cooked to perfection. All and all a very enjoyable dinner experience.
Great location. Seating outside not fancy enough for the price of the food.
Recomended by a friend, and now highly recorded by us!
We’ve wanted to try Magic’s for a while, and now that we’ve been, we can’t believe we waited so long! The entire experience from arrival to dining to departure was superb. When you arrive, you immediately see the handcrafted koa wood and local artwork. Next you notice that the design scheme is modern, warm, and welcoming. Then you look across the restaurant to see waves crashing all around it, and your mouth drops open in awe. And that’s all before you start eating!
We were greeted warmly by our server who did a great job with our drinks order. He offered to have me taste a champagne to see if I liked it (not my favorite, I switched), then he brought a better one quickly. We placed our order and were mesmerized by the waves crashing on Magic Sands beach below us-we were seated outdoors on the south lanai.
Once the food arrived, we dug in, and every single course and plate was spot on. My personal favorite was the Jidori roast chicken with umami laden risotto with mushrooms. My husband’s lobster atop Asian pasta was a hit, but very spicy so beware if that’s not your thing.
Magics is a great addition to the beachside dining scene in Kona, give it a try!
Sat outside for sunset dinner. Food was excellent.
