Nestled inside the historical landmark of Louisville, Rex Theatre, Madera Grill opened for business in 2015 offering classic American cuisine. The restaurant has several dining areas, including the main room, rooftop bar and deck and outdoor patio. The décor is elegant and interior is roomy, and the dim lighting, large windows, and welcoming atmosphere makes it a good spot for having lunch and dinner with family and friends. The menu at Madera Grill has several sections, including appetizers, sandwiches, from the pan, dessert, from the wood burning oven and from the grill. The happy hours spans from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. Madera Grill offers in-house catering service for special events and private parties, as well. I was very disappointed in the food - a number in the party had skirt steak and they were all over cooked as was the burger. Have eaten there before so took family there when they were visiting - will reconsider next time!

We are regulars at Madera and often take guests here when they're visiting from out of town. The food is always consistently delicious. The only complaint is that they used to have the most amazing duck dish that my husband used to get and they took it off the menu! My go to dish is the prawns pasta...perfect every time! The roof top section is very nice for the warmer weather as well.

This was my fourth visit to Madera Grill...and every visit I so want to love it. I love the downstairs dining room. While the linen and napkins aren't inline with the average Louisville, it does help set the stage for something special. The tucked leather booths, the lovely floral graphic, candles in the entry way fireplace...they clearly put a lot of thought into the space. The last few visits, our service was really good, the owner came by our table and made us feel welcomed and special and the caesar salad - fabulous. We've also tried some special soups, pork and apple sauce and half roasted chicken. The service and owner always made up for anything that wasn't fantastic. Four weeks before both my children ended middle and elementary school, I booked reservations for a party of 9 - 4 weeks in advance. This was to host parents, kids and grandparents. I phoned earlier on the day of our reservation to confirm we could be in the dining room and take over the corner section of the lovely leather tucked booths. The woman who answered the phone stated she had us on the patio, but would look to see if she could move us and call me back.... The grandparents arrived before I could get there and I was disappointed they were seated in the upstairs 'dining room' - which for sure has the feel of overflow 'deck' seating. Since they were seated, I didn't ask to move us to the formal dining room on the main level in the corner. Be sure to state this if it's your preference. No doubt the deck is lovely, just not what we had in mind for this dinner. The waitress was clearly spread thin and was by our table very sporadically after taking our order. The burgers were overcooked and charred, the chicken dish and veggie burger so salty and one of the two pork dishes was dropped before it could be served - and therefore '86'd. We are total local restaurant fans and want to support success - But they are off our list.

We found Madera Grill on Good Table and it sounded like what we were looking for. The menu seemed interesting and we liked the location. We were seated at the time of our reservation, but it took a while for our waitress to come initially, and then over an hour to get our food! Steve (the manager maybe) was helpful in suggesting dishes and we ordered some of the ones he suggested. However, when we inquired about how long our meals were taking to arrive, he became defensive and disputed how long we told him we had been waiting. One of the people in our party ordered a medium-rare hamburger which finally arrived quite dried out. When we pointed it out to our waitress, Steve came over to our table with a knife and told us to cut into the hamburger so he could prove to us that it was medium-rare! He then took it away and offered to remake it, but by then we no longer wanted it and it was removed from our bill. None of us had ever had an experience like that! On a positive note, our waitress, Izzy, was sweet and apologetic.

We decided at the last minute, at 1:30pm to look for somewhere local for brunch. When we arrived there were a number of tables finishing, but we were seated and served promptly. Once they'd left there were not so many people left and the noise level dropped and we had a lot of fun playing "adult" hangman of the paper table cover with the crayons provided! We both ordered the salad specials, one beefm one chicken. They arrived quickly, everything was fresh and crisp and the meat hot and well prepared. All in all a great last minute decision and choice.

Our first time to Madera - and we will absolutely return! We were warmly welcomed on a cold January evening by the hostess and quickly seated in a quiet booth near the fireplace. We arrived in time for the Happy Hour menu and were pleasantly surprised with the value of both wine, cocktail and food choices. Our server was knowledgable and we simply had a wonderful evening, albeit early dinner! We will be back!
