Macellaio RC Union Street
Alongside with our already known Fassona beef, we have added the Bakery. We do PISSA not Pizza, which was invented before it following old Liguria traditions. Actually, pizza was first cooked in Italy for Andrea Doria, an important Admiral of Genoa’s Republic, before the discovery of America.
At the beginning pissa was only seasoned with anchovies, olives and onion and matured for an average of 60 to 90, using strong flour that helps the dough to rise slowly at fridge temperature with a small quantity of natural yeast. This results in a tastier pissa.
Moreover, we do Focaccia di Recco: a very thin layer of dough made just with flour, Liguria olive oil and with Stracchino cheese in the middle.

Il Macellaio in Union street is something you have to try once in life (at least that is). The food was amazing, the steak sublime. The staff was very polite and always there to make sure everything was ok. The ambience was perfect too, despite the cold of a late April night our night wasn’t ruined because they’re very well equipped with outdoor heating and blankets. The price is not low, but it’s absolutely worth it, the food is high quality! It’s been a perfect date night. Highly recommend.
Excellent quality various types of beef from Italy. Lovely starter and pasta main course. Wine list very small and a bit expensive.
The food was pretty good but it took more than 3 hours for a 2 Course meal, servers were incredibly elusive if around at all. Would not return.

Overall it’s quite expensive and the wine mark up is high. However, ambiance, and friendliness of the management and staff was great. Would go back but I’ll avoid being led on the wine....!

Food is very good and you can feel the great quality of the ingredients which come at an higher price tag but really enjoyed our dinner and we consider it worth it. We definitely recommend and we give definitely a 5* for the service which was perfect. This was a first try but we will go again.

I am an old customer of Macellaio I love his passion for anything he does, his steak is the best in London , but my last visit for some reason the meat it wasn’t good as I remembered . I am sure COVID must be one of the reasons
Food and drinks were incredible, the staff were polite and professional, the atmosphere was very relaxed.
The location is really beautiful.
The Misto Imperiale was delicious, the Focaccia al formaggio was a surprise and the Lardo Bruschetta is always a guarantee !! The Costata and Fassona Gillet were juicy and perfectly cooked.
I am not a dessert fan butyou should try the Bianco Al Basilico.

Undimmed by the pandemic, coming back to Macellaio has been such a treat. The quality of service, food is excellent as usual; and I’m so happy that one of my favourite restaurants in London is still operating.

As ever, great beef and lovely wine with careful attentive service which is never obtrusive. The staff clearly love what they do and this translates into a great experience. We shall return.

Great Great Great! The Fassone-Meat from Piemonte is in-house-Dry-Aged and its nothing than beautiful!!! Is there a better meat-Place in London??? I dont think so...
We sat on 2nd floor this evening where our waitstaff was very excellent. The food and dessert were awesome. The next time we return from Texas it will be a must - probably more times than just once.
The steak was the best we have ever had, could cut it with a butter knife. Our sides where outstanding as well

Really mixed experience. Great location, cool interior, just the right level of busy and excellent service. Everything was set up for a fantastic meal! However, the steak just isn't quite good enough to justify the price in my opinion, and the chef covered it with a massive (!) dose of chunky rock salt. My guest eventually gave up on eating it, and I spent most of my time trying to pick the chunks of salt off the steak or out from between my teeth...
A real shame as they have half the experience absolutely nailed!

I am Italian and I have been living in London for 6 years and I usually avoid going out for Italian food. However when I need to treat mtself this is the place. The quality of the food is amazing and the service is the best.

Food was ok. Nice but very small portions. Should be made clearer that they are tapas size plates and priced accordingly. For the price of each dish you would expect a main meal. Also felt the waitress was really trying to push us to order the most expensive steaks. We were also the only people in there on a Thursday lunchtime.
I went to Macellaio RC with my manager for a dinner. I expected to have nice food... we ordered 2 rump steaks and 2 sides. The portion of the steaks were ridiculously small (the menu did not specify the weight of them). As soon as I tasted mine, I realised it was COLD. They took it away, not sure if they just reheated it. The steak was nothing special, the bill was ridiculously expensive. The service was "ok", apart from a small incident with a steak knife.
I will not come back as I think it's a rip off.
