All around terrific - here's hoping they can re-open soon!
Very nice birthday celebration with complimentary champagne. Waitress was great. Roasted quail and venison with blueberries was tasty and hearty. A Medley of two large sorbets for dessert. The blood orange sorbet was outstanding with an intense flavor and pieces of fruit. My partner enjoyed his meal of haddock and pistachio Napolean dessert. Restaurant has nice homey feel without feeling pretentious. Will be back.
Excellent escargot, as good as a high level restaurant in Paris.
Everything was great. Second time dining here. It was perfect!!!
It was one of the best French meals I’ve had in a long time. Escargots were perfect and the sweetbreads in Dijon cream sauce (Wednesday evening special) were to die for!
Gem of a restaurant located on the back of Bacon Hill. Excellent food, friendly attentive service with a neighborhood feel.
The food was delicious, as was the ambiance. Our waitress was a little distracted by the large number of tables being served---restaurant week---, but overall great
Outstanding traditional French food, wonderful service.
My wife and I went to Ma Maison for a date-night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our server was pleasant and the food was excellent. The restaurant itself was small and filled up quickly, so I would definitely make a reservation. The menu was classic bistro fare; the meals the folks around us were getting all looked delicious.
I always like Ma Maison and we go every now and then as it is in our neighborhood. It has gotten so popular that you definitely need a reservation. As it is a small place, when it gets crowded it also gets noisy. Service is always excellent and my favorite thing is the souffle for dessert!
Food was impeccable, service was excellent. Fantastic date night
Best food for the money in Boston. Cooked to perfect temperature every time. Staff the best.
Small quaint restaurant in Beacon Hill. Don't go before reservation time because there is no where to wait. Enjoyable experience, only negative is I love my pomme frites skinny and they serve them thick!!!
Everything was truly delicious
Lucky us. This is our neighborhood restaurant. I always start with their French onion soup while my husband loves their special soup du jour — both always perfectly delicious.
service felt a bit rushed...service felt a bit rushed...service felt a bit rushed...service felt a bit rushed...service felt a bit rushed...service felt a bit rushed...
We were in Boston for Julie's birthday and this was her first choice. Two friends came to celebrate with us and we think they took the weekend off partially because they knew we were headed to Ma Maison. Ma Maison is about as close as you get in the US to a lovely French bistro. One of Julie's favorites meals is cassoulet and this night it was on the menu, though she did pause when the special changed to beef wellington; but, Lee did try that and said it was excellent. I started with the quail and had a lovely Dover sole (unfortunately you have to pre-order this 24 hours in advance and I rarely remember, this time I did and was rewarded). For dessert, we don't need the menu (though we wish we had the opportunity to try some of the selections, they sound great), they have soufflé’s. Normally we get one chocolate and one grand marnier, this time we both went for the grand marnier....and didn't have to share (the chocolate is just as good). We had a new server and our fault did not get her name but the service was excellent. The only regret is that we can’t get back sooner. Thank you for a lovely night. Bill and Julie
Great food, friendly environment and reasonable price
Food and service were outstanding. Enjoyed our meal.
We were in Boston for a difficult appointment at MGH. Ma Maison was a cozy, warm inviting respite from the day. The food was delicious
Excellent service and beautiful authentic French food
One of our favorite restaurants anywhere. Food is exceptional, ambience is warm and inviting and the service and waitstaff are incredibly hospitable and welcoming.
Overall, good experience but a bit expensive for what it is. Ambience is cute and cozy, perfect for a date night. I would stick to the traditional French items on the menu. The escargot and macaroons we ordered were great, the scallops were not. Echoing similar comments, scallops were salty and came with a measly serving of rice (also salty). The presentation left much to be desired as well. For a $30 entree, I expect a lot more.
This was our second Valentine's Day celebration (actually the day *after*). Last year we had an amazing experience and marked Ma Maison as being one of our favorites, vowing to return the following year. We made the reservations for this year's celebration a couple of months in advance and were so looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it was almost as if we went to a different restaurant. For starters, we ordered cocktails, La Vie en Rose, and one other. Drinks portions, including the wines by the glass are generous and we enjoyed our selection. We ordered the Foie Gras, which was very good but the accompanying sauce was a bit underwhelming (I believe it was pear sauce). So far so good. We ordered for the mains the Cassoulet with the duck and The Duck A l'Orange. Which was amazing last year (I have pictures to show!). Maybe because we ordered a Beet Salad, which I'll come back to, between courses, but it seems that the kitchen just left our entrees in the oven while we ate our salad. The Cassoulet was devoid of any liquid whatsoever, and the duck tasted slightly reheated, although it was served to our medium-rare specification. The Cassoulet should have that rich, liquidity consistency which provides an amazing mixture of textures and flavors. Instead, we were served a bowl of crackle. The Beet Salad was straight out of a supermarket, i.e. pale, hot-house tomatoes, some sliced beets and a portion of salad frisée with a tart vinaigrette which seemed straight-out of the salad bar at Whole Foods. The dessert, Baked Alaska, was excellent and somewhat redeemed the disappointing entrees. If any of you follow my posts, you know I am a stickler about the coffee. The cappuccino was another disappointment. My Nespresso prepares a better cup! On the whole, the restaurant was much better last year. Perhaps it was an off-night and we should have sent the food back. We will visit again, but with a wary eye.
One of our favorite restaurants in Boston. Recommend it highly!
Ma Maison reminds of bistros we visited in Paris. It was particularly cozy on a very cold winter night. The staff were warm & friendly - knowledgeable and efficient. I began with the escargot which were delicious and thankfully prepared without shell, avoiding risky struggle that can sometimes with the shell slipping out of the tongs and shooting across the table. My wife enjoyed the butternut squash soup with truffles. I had the lamb chops which were perfectly cooked. My wife's choice was a marinated veal chop with grilled asparagus. It was tender and tasted quite good. The bread that accompanied the meal was one of the best French baguettes we have ever tasted. It was particularly good for dipping in the escargot sauce. We shared a beautifully prepared Grand Marnier souffle for dessert. The wine list offers a good variety and is reasonable.
This was our ( two friends and us) fourth visit. Tge food is truly French and wonderful. The steak tartar is perfection, the lobster bisque, squash soup, kidneys, sweetbreads...need I continue? Service professional and perfect. A very attractive room, it feels exactly as though we were back in France.
I love this place. If you enjoy authentic french food, this is the place for you.
We’re regular customers and enjoy it every time we go. Delicious bistro food, wonderful service, warm and cozy setting.
We had an excellent dinner the other evening at your restaurant. The staff was very attentive.. the food delicious and the atmosphere very Parisienne. Will be back!!
A delightful and charming find. A classic menu as well as several creative variations. This is well worth a trip.
Absolutely delicious food! We also had a person in our party with a nut and peanut allergy and the server was so accommodating. Both the French onion soup and butternut squash soup were delicious. The haddock was cooked to perfection and cut like butter. Both soufflés are a fantastic way to end the evening.
Such an incredible place! We absolutely loved it. We will be back!
Old French ambience with superb dishes. Always enjoy coming here.
We are long time regulars at Ma Maison, love the food and the ambiance, and have always had good experiences. The food remains outstanding, but unfortunately the last two visits the service has not been up to expectation. Newly hired wait staff do not seem to have it down yet. We had to wave our arms to ask to order. We had to ask twice for things. We had to ask on both visits to have the plates removed after a long wait, and then to get the bill. We are hoping this will be quickly corrected so we can return to the usual high standard of service.
Food was excellent, even better than the last time I was here several months ago. Fresh and well presented.
I was very pleased with the Service. When I made the Reservation I noted it was to celebrate a birthday. They gave us a glass of sparkling wine as a welcome and finished the evening with a great dessert with a candle for my Wife, This was complimentary and over the Top, We will be Back
Wonderful small French bistro in Boston! Close to the T, and across from MGH.
Steak tartare, Onion Soup, Foie Gras, Cassoulet (w/duck confit), Short Rina and Beef Wellington (special of the night) were all perfect!
Wine by the carafe, while not noteworthy, is solid and affordable.
Only ‘watch-out’ is being seated near the door on a cold night. The restaurant does have a solid curtain across the entry, between the seating area and door; however, arriving parties often keep door ajar for extended moments, accommodating all of the party walking in.
Service is attentive, yet not overbearing.
Great for business, date, special occasions, etc.
The food was great! We had onion soup, lamb chops, and steak, and I strongly recommend onion soup and lamb chops. The steak was good too, but the lamb was softer. The server was really nice and professional. I also liked the ambience there.
