Ma Maison is a cozy neighborhood place that is getting more and more popular - maybe because the food is improving! I had salmon with ratatouille and a chocolate souffle - delicious.
Authentic classic French. Yummy
A wonderful neighborhood restaurant....I eat there very often
You feel like you are in a Paris bistro. No frills but very cozy. Very French atmosphere and food. The special cream of green vegetable soup was delicious and my pan sautéed haddock with a crunchy crumb topping was superb. The salad was also very good. The mussels could have used a little more flavor but were still good. We will go back for sure.
Ma Maison was not full for Saturday afternoon meal. Therefore, wonderfully quiet! I had the special which was not at all satisfying. One of our tablemates had a wonderful Coq au Vin. The liver was overdone but the company was great.
What a gem. Such an inviting staff that elevates the entire experience. We have 10 month baby and they couldn’t have been nicer about it. Emily brought him things to keep him entertained and was so pleasant the entire time. The food is tender and full of flavor. The chef makes each course, from the escargot to the soufflé, a celebration of fine French cuisine.
Our first time there - excellent cuisine and attentive service.
My friend and I very much enjoyed our lunch. Our food (moules marinieres and an omelette) was very good and fresh, our server very accommodating, the ambience warm and cozy – very much like an old, small French brasserie – and the level of noise very low. My main complaint is that none of the online menus, including the one posted on Ma Maison's website, accurately reflect the food choices and, particularly, the prices, which have gone WAY up. Though I would definitely recommend this restaurant, I'd suggest calling in advance to confirm whether online menu items one might look forward to ordering are on the current menu.
Friendly neighborhood French food with terrific service. Their aperitif's are a great way to start the meal, and the list is reason enough to stop in. The staff is terrific and the food is better than you would expect for the price. Every neighborhood needs a place like this.
I had my Birthday dinner at Ma Maison. The food and service were outstanding. I had a great time
Wonderful... and authentic!
Although we live in the area, we had not been to Ma Maison for brunch. We met some friends there and enjoyed a great selection of delicious food. Service was fantastic and best of all, we were not rushed out the door as soon as we finished.
Perfect combination of delicious French food, reasonable prices, lovely room and excellent service! The lobster bisque was a revelation! An oasis of calm for a delightful lunch.
The food is always delicious! Some of the wait staff are better than others. The one this time was not very good. Love the steak frites and salmon.
The duck was excellent. As always well served and a complete delight
We ordered some drinks, the foie gras, and the squash soup which were all very good. Service was great throughout the meal, and the Grand Marnier soufflé is always a show stopper!
Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Boston! The food, service, ambiance are perfect and very consistent. This is a very special place!
A nice little French restaurant with traditional offerings, well prepared and presented. The space is small and cozy, perhaps a bit scrunched if you like your elbow room or you are a large person. The service was very good and friendly and prompt.
On the critical side, as one reviewer pointed out, if you sit near the front door (which we did) you will get rather constant blasts of cold air in the winter, despite the efforts to block this with a curtain—it is what it is, but try to sit further inside if this might annoy you.
All and all, my wife and I gave it a qualified thumbs up, mostly because we like to have French food from time to time, and this fit the bill. Most reviewers have rated this restaurant as outstanding, and perhaps for Boston this might be a true—but its really just a nice French restaurant if you've actually been to France, and its not particularly cheap.
We got the priced fixed menu for two, which ran us $189 with just 1 glass of wine a piece. For that kind of money, we are not rushing back, but its a lovely place to splurge once or twice a year.
This lovely restaurant is beyond amazing. Atmosphere, quality, service is superlative in every way.
Ma Maison is an all-around wonderful restaurant. The staff is incredibly welcoming and attentive. The food is phenomenal, and the ambiance is relaxing and warm. It’s a quaint hidden gem that is a must-do in Boston. I will be coming back every time I’m in town! Absolutely lovely experience.
Excellent dinner in a beautiful environment w impeccable service.
Excellent service as always. Accommodated special dietary and drinks requests with a smile.
I have dined at Ma Maison many times and it has always been a wonderful experience. However, this last visit, shortly after Christmas was not up to their usual high standards. The wonderful chicken dish, Chicken Thigh Coq Au Vin only had two legs and not the wonderful thigh that is typical of the dish. I asked the waitress (who I have not seen previous visits) about this and she said it always comes with two legs. I wonder why it is called Chicken Thigh Coq Au Vin then?
They also did not have several of their desserts. In all fairness, it was during the busy holiday season and they likely ran out of certain ingredients.
This place is a gem and I will certainly return but my last experience was disappointing.
As always, a fantastic holiday meal was enjoyed by myself and my family. Fantastic food, great service, and great value.
Went to Ma Maison on Christmas Eve after Boston Pops Christmas Concert. Wonderful restaurant with outstanding food and Paris cafe feel!
This is a wonderful ‘neighborhood’ spot that has great food and ambiance
We are lucky that Ma Maison happens to be our neighborhood restaurant. We love it for lunch and dinner.
Hits the spot for a great, classic French meal.
All the food items are delicious! The duck breast and smoked salmon were the best I've had so far. For my birthday, the restaurant kindly gave each of us a little cocktail ma maison. Highly recommend if you're looking for a French restaurant in Boston.
It was cold !! Every time the door opened a blast of cold air came into the room. The noise level was so high that you ended up yelling across the table to your partner. The French Onion soup was fine. The
lamb chops were fatty and the scalloped potatoes had a crust which was undercooked .
As usual Sam the manager made our dinner feel like a special occasion. And the staff too. I feel always at home at Ma Maison. Highly recommended.
I give 5 stars in all categories. The one thing that I would comment on is regarding the fries. Several times previously (a year or so ago) when I went for lunch, the fries were far superior than those they serve now. The fries now are thinner and more ordinary, whereas the previous fries were slightly thicker with an amazing crispy outer texture and more creamy interior - the best I had ever had! I definitely miss those fries, however this is a minor since they are only an accompaniment to the main dish.
Excellent Biston cuisine. Better than many in Paris.
So much depends on what’s happening around you on an evening like this - sometimes it’s not necessarily the restaurant itself but rather the other customers in proximity to you. This was our issue the other night when we were seated too close to a couple who had some very strong (and differing) opinions on certain religious groups and cultures. It was remarkably full-throated and astoundingly offensive. And we were on a date.
The food was good although there was only one vegetarian option for my wife. I get it, I should have looked at the menu in advance. That was my bad. But the veggie offering was a little weak. The restaurant is good enough that it should have offered a creative vegetarian option. It was only ok.
The wine was terrific. The salads great. The server was perfect. Just the right amount of there and not there.
All in all I would recommend. But beware. It’s a very small space and the tables are close. You may be on a date but you won’t be alone.
Excellent food and service. Highly recommended.
Excellent service in an intimate atmosphere. The menu had plenty of French specialty options and our meals were delicious. The wine was also very good :) We will be back again!
It was quite noisy. My main complaint was that they had already sold out of certain entrees as such they were not available. We choose this French restaurent on the basis of the presence of the entree. Our waitstaff sluffed it off and told me to order the coq au vin.
Outstanding gem. You would believe your in a restaurant in France. Love it. Very friendly and helpful staff. Superb food good quality wine list very fairly priced. Don’t miss this place.
The soup was superb, the waitress (from Dijon) was excellent, friendly and really made us feel welcomed, and was a credit to the restaurant. The coq au vin was a little dry. The salmon main course was too much salmon, not enough ratatouille. The wine was good as was the tatin.
We had a great time and the food was delicious and the service was excellent. It would be even more enjoyable if it was warmer in the room by the door, especially on a cold evening. A second door would make a huge difference. If possible
