Lunch with a friend on a relatively quiet, non-busy Tuesday. We had house white wine with the chicken pesto salad. Service was good. The salad had arugula and it was way to "stemmy", but tasty. A little variety in the greens would have been nice.
Fantastic food, very, very accommodating to food allergies (dairy, egg, peanut and tree nut). Highly recommend!
High-quality seasonal dishes with local ingredients and great wine pairings.
Food and customer service were outstanding.
Great Sunday night dinner. Duck sugo - yum. Great service and atmosphere.
I'm a recent transplant to Portland, and I was searching Opentable for a good spot for a Saturday evening, for 3 diners. We weren't searching any type of cuisine, but wanted to make sure the restaurant provided our out-of-town guest with a vision of a great dining experience in Portland. Living in NOPO, Lucca is a convenient location and offered a diverse menu to cater to all tastes. We were delighted with the food, and Erika provided exceptionally professional, yet friendly service. We were seated promptly and in the back room, which was great for our group. It was a full house while we were there, and it does get noisy when the restaurant is full, but "service excellence" was the appropriate term to describe all employees who engaged out table. The employees refilling water and bread were on point, and the food runners charming and accurate. How many times do you dine out and the food runner doesn't know who had what dish, and just starts asking "who had the chicken" etc. This was NOT the case at Lucca; everyone received the right dish. We topped the evening off with a shared dessert which was excellent. I can't wait to go back!
Atmosphere was good, food was awesome. Drinks were SUPER SLOW and service was substandard. I’m no restauranteur, but couldn’t help but think they need an awesome host/hostess/float to make sure everything runs smoothly. Nobody greeted us at the entry/host table, rather there was an awkward wait and lukewarm welcome. By the time we were finally seated for our reservation, my wife had headed to the ladies room. I was seated and hoped to surprise and delight her with a drink order on the way when she returned, but it was another 8 minute wait to order a cocktail, and 14 more minutes to be served. That was enough time for us to be thinking of heading somewhere else to dine. The waiter was not helpful in directing food choices, but the excellent food made us mostly forgive this. By the time the evening ended, we were very happy and satisfied with the food and drinks, and mostly were thinking about hard it is to get good help. This experience felt like “Renata Light.” The difference being the owners at Renata sometimes fill the role of awesome host/hostess/float to make sure everybody feels well tended to. If Lucca can hire an energetic, proactive host/hostess/float, this place would be awesome.
OMG everything about Lucca is wonderful, but don't tell your friends! I live just across the street and want to always be able to find a seat! ;-)
(PS Reservations are recommended). Give this neighborhood spot a try. You'll love it.
Lively spot with a mix of dates and family groups, including lots of small kids. Very loud. Excellent server. Food was good but nothing out of the ordinary.
We’ve been coming here for years and loved it. But things seem to have changed. The pasta was undercooked, salad under par, and service in short supply. Hope this is a temporary hiccup.
We enjoyed the Tagliatelle, the olives, and the cheese plate. The food was so good!
I highly recommend the bistecca. It melted in my mouth. I’m on a high protein low carb diet and I only cheated a bit by eating some of the tasty potatoes nestled under the meat. My leftovers the next evening tasted almost as good. I can also recommend the pea and mushroom soup.
Lunch was a disaappointment. The food and service were simply mediocre. I won't return.
Great for casual dining. Liked the pasta dishes and salad we ordered (I would mention them but I think the menu rotates with some frequency), unfortunately we were not impressed by the pizza.
I would give this restaurant top rating for food and menu but it is soooo loud it is impossible to hold a conversation. Unfortunately I probably won’t return because of the noise level.
Not good soundproofing here, so it can easily get noisy. I would request seating in the small room off the main area, or go in the late afternoon, when it's more quiet and you can still get the same good food, drinks and service.
First time here and had a great experience. The pizza is delicious. Lots of great wine options and some wonderful desserts.
The food and service at the table were excellent but the hostess leaves a lot to be desired!
A good neighborhood restaurant! The noise level is high. The food is also a bit on the expensive side, although delicious. The food arrives pretty quickly after you order which is something I always wonder about but of course it's better than waiting forever. Try to find a quiet time and take your time ordering!
A month ago my husband and I were in Italy. Missing the food, we decided to go out for Italian. We booked a reservation at Lucca. It did not disappoint!
Lucca serves authentic Italian food with layers of flavor. The tagliatelle al ragu rivaled some that we had in Italy. The chocolate decadent cake was rich and complemented with a huckleberry sauce over the top. We will definitely be dining here again in the future.
We love this place and feel privileged that it’s just a few blocks from us! The fall menu is wonderful!
Our waitress was wonderful. She made excellent recommendations and was very pleasant.
Overall, the entir experience wasn’t worth the time. I would recommend going, LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE!
The only thing I would not do again is an arugula pizza. There was close to 300 lbs of fresh arugula on it. Not good in any way. But I believe any of the other pizza's would have been awesome. The pate (chicken liver) was amazing!
We will go again...without arugula.
We love this wonderful spot right in our neighborhood. The service is great and the food is always amazing! A perfect place to celebrate something special, take guests or just enjoy a delicious meal with good friends and family.
Lucca is a great under-the-radar restaurant that doesn't seem to get nearly as much love as it should. Great entrees, sides, salads and soups. (The creamy roasted pepper soup sounded really good, it wasn't. It was incredible!) Our cocktails were excellent, and the deserts were wonderful. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Nice people here. All this in a really warm, relaxing atmosphere.....and the prices are absolutely reasonable.
Had to wait to be greeted upon arrival for several minutes. Didn’t like first table offered.
Wait person, owners son, was talkative & properly pointed out issue w wine list.
Food was excellent, portions were appropriate, interesting ingredients
Chef chatted with us for awhile as she knew I was a restaurant consultant & wanted feedback
I’d definitely go back Good neighborhood spot
Food was great, wonderful atmosphere, great service. Highly recommend for a quiet date night!
Delicious food, especially pizza. Servers seemed a bit stressed.
Appreciate efforts to seat us at quieter table. Immediate attention to order wine. Great service and hospitality from all servers.
Fabulous service and cuisine was wonderful; great flavors and presentation very impressive.
Our waitress was amazingly patient and attentive. Food is always great and a treat. Thanks!
We are long time patrons of Lucca. We hadn't been there in awhile so I was extra impressed that the young lady providing water and initial service remembered what we like to order to drink! That's nice. I have gone all plant-based in my eating since my last visit. I was disappointed to see that the roasted beet salad I normally order wasn't on the menu anymore, and pretty much everything had meat or dairy. My waiter was not to be deterred though! He got the chef to modify a pasta dish for me that had chanterelles and white beans, and did not use butter. It was delicious, and I really appreciated him helping me figure out something I could have. I understand from him that the chef is planning an all plant based pizza for the menu. That would be great!
Delicious dishes and a nice wine list. The noise level in the main room was too loud for an intimate dinner but was fine for a family event.
Solid neighborhood restaurant. The food was straightforward and delicious, but the service was a little rushed and we felt as though we weren't in her section but seated away from her other tables. Still, it was a very enjoyable meal from appetizers to desserts at a very reasonable price. I'm sure I'll be back.
The food was pretty good but they completely ignored my
request through my Open Table
reservation to acknowledge my guest’s birthday.
You don't last as long as Lucca has in that neighborhood unless you hit on all aspects of a great restaurant. Simply one of the best go-to restaurants in Portland proper. Oh...AND they make you feel like family...even when you bring your own!
Had the bursts salad, the prosciutto and fungi pizza, and the sausage pizza. Everything was yummy. Definitely a favorite neighborhood place.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Portland. Food is always excellent, cocktails are well prepared and generous. Service is fast and friendly. Never had a bad meal here.
