The place was not even open, and yet we were able to make a reservataion online.
Normally, I really love this restaurant. Their brunch is wonderful, and I've enjoyed small plates there. However, they have stopped offering wine flights- one of the really fun experiences that made them unique. On Saturday night after Valentines Day, they were out of nearly every wine I was interested in. Finally, the server suggested a wine comparable to one I had requested, and it was very good. I ordered the steak, medium. It was not overcooked, but it was extremely tough. I gave my husband a sample and he said I should have sent it back. I was disappointed with this very mediocre experience at one of my favorite places.
Food - other than appetizer of crab cakes - was basic. Steak was like bubble gum, fish was salty and presentation was far from what we paid for. I would not go back...which is unfortunate because location is convenient and overall ambiance was nice and quiet.
Worst Valentine’s meal ever. They had almost no selection and then ran out of everything. For a wine dive, the selection sucked and was over-priced. Someone came to our table and was rude about how they ran out of two of the total 4 dishes on their menu. Our server was good and the calamari was outstanding. I will never go back, though. Lex has too many choices and that place was one of the worst!
I came on Valentine’s Day, around 8 pm. A previous review said they ran out of everything which is untrue. We had an awesome selection of all food, they were not out of anything. Our waiter, Josh, was awesome and chef Carrie knocked it out of the park. Great valentines dinner!
Good bottle of wine, but the kitchen was a total mess. Couldn't get my wife's order right. The mussels I ordered were the worst I've ever had; terribly sour white wine broth. The waitress had done her best to be positive and accommodating, until she left us sitting unattended for 20 minutes after we'd finished our meal. It's a shame because this is a place I want to like, but experiences there have been very uneven. Life's too short for bad restaurants.
My husband ordered the chicken and dumplings and I had the mussels. We both absolutely loved our food. They suggested wines for us and chose perfectly. We also had their turtle cheesecake which was the best I’ve had. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. Awesome experience!
Went two days before Valentine's day. The wife and I were excited because we had a great experience 6 months earlier and don't get many date nights. My wife started by ordering a flight of red wine. The bartender (In the nicest way he could) came to our table and basically said he wouldn't open his nice bottles (they were saving for Valentines Day crowd apparently) for a flight sample and recommended 2 cheaper wines and 1 glass of champagne instead. I mean this place claims to be a wine dive and my wife wanted to do some sampling. I know flights aren't on the menu technically, but it wasn't an issue last time.
Steak was bland and a poor cut of meat, took almost a minute to chew one bite, fries were cold/soggy. Chicken n dumplings were recommended by waitress, but were simply biscuits and a few pieces of chicken, smothered in some sauce...nothing special.
Waitress was nice enough and checked on us regularly, but we couldn't get past the food quality compared to price. Louie's hasn't been very busy the last few times we've been there (maybe a few tables of people) so my guess is they aren't wasting their resources on the small crowds and reserve their A-Game for the busier nights.
My suggestion is to treat every customer the same regardless of whether it is a slow night. It is not the customer's fault if you only have a few people dining that night and you should never insinuate opening some bottles at a customer's request is not worth it. At the end of the night we paid $100 for a disappointing visit. We may have been just another young couple eating dinner to them, but it was supposed to be a special night for us. Our Valentines celebration was a bust this year unfortunately.
Great wine choices, but bottles are a little pricey compared to other restaurants. You would think being a "wine" bar, that you would get better deals and have more variety for pricing on the bottles of wine. The food is excellent tho and service is good. cozy atmosphere. But, until they get a better selection of bottles with lower prices, I will go get the same bottles at the liquor store for less than half of what they have on their menu.
This restaurant was better than expected. I had heard reviews that it wasn’t worth the money fo what you got. However, the food was great!! For three people, we got the charcuterie, a flatbread, and the gnocchi which were all delicious and filling. We ended with more wine and beignets that were so good! We will definitely be back!
Menu you see online is not even close to the menu at the restaurant. It is boring compared to places around. They mainly have burgers and pizza.... that’s about it. We ended up walking out because of menu and service.
The service is fine, but the food is just not good.
I tried the Steak Frites which came in a bowl with tomato sauce. The beef was really tough and the fries were all wilted. It was not what I expected.
My friend ordered the pineapple pizza which was just bad.
Relaxed but attentive service- love the devilled eggs. Comfort food entree with good use of herbs/spice.
Loved the brunch selections. The bottomless mimosa choices were great as well! Will definitely be coming back for brunch.
Not sure what kind of confusion was going on here. We waited an hour for drinks, and after two hours we were told that most of the food we had originally ordered was unavailable. Only three of our four people actually received food. The server tried his best to compensate with free drinks, but it took an hour for those to arrive. Seems to me something was going on behind the scenes that made life hell for our server and our table. They comped everything, which was a nice gesture, but I would not recommend this place to anyone for fear they'd have a similar experience.
This place is awful.
My husband and I went two years ago and it was enjoyable. We took our family New Years Eve this year hoping for a great night. First we were seated at a table where the roof was leaking and water landed on our heads. We told waiter. He and manager moved us to another table that the roof was leaking at and we got water on our heads. Then we told them and they put us in another seat. We ordered food and drinks. Our wine never arrived my husband went and told them after 30 minutes and then we got our wine. When the food was delivered after waiting over an hour , one of our meals wasn’t delivered and one meal was raw. We told waiter and he said checked and said the one meal was never cooked. By this time the two that got their meals were finished. It took the manager some time before she came to talk to us. We will not return
Went for NYE and friends birthday. Spent an hour waiting for dessert. Poor service/. Our meals didn’t come out at same time. Got appetizers after our main course
We really like The food and atmosphere. Unfortunately, they were short staffed on NYE. Everything took twice as long. Our waiter was great but had too many tables to wait on.
Our experience left us annoyed and hungry. There was very loud live music mixed with the carrying of all the other voices, this made it extremely hard to speak to one another. Our waiter was unpleasent and inattentive, after being seated we waited for at least 15 minutes before being greeted and asked what we would like to drink. My husband ordered a beer and I just wanted a glass of water. We waited another 10 minutes for our server to return with no drinks to tell us that the beer my husband had ordered was not available on tap which was no big deal, he just ordered something else. We then had to wait another 10 to 15 minutes for his drink and to order our meals. Our meals tasted great but the portions were small. When we got our bill, we were charged for both beers ordered even though he only received on and charged for more expensive meals than we had ordered. Overall, we left feeling very unsatisfied and annoyed when it was supposed to be a nice night out for us.
I felt the value wasn’t the best for the quality and portion sizes. The service was absolutely terrible. I was really hoping for a great restaurant in that location but it was a total letdown.
Love it waiter was awesome
I love the wine selection at Louie's and the service is always helpful and friendly.
We had an excellent experience. Loved the menu and the service was fantastic!
Great food and service, music was a bit loud - good music, talented musicians, but would have been nice to have been able to have some conversation too.
Awesome Sunday brunch, I believe our servers name was Brad. He recommended great food and drinks to us, even at different price levels. You could tell he was recommending what he liked and not so much trying to sell us on the most expensive stuff. Genuine. Awesome menu. Food and timing was perfect. I’ve been wanting to come her for over a year now and so glad I finally got in here! Recommend to anyone and everyone. YUM YAY
Took a long time for food to arrive but it was good when we finally got it. Mgr. compensated for the wait so that was nice.
Great food, first-class service and a nice environment. Parking can be a challenge if you don’t know the area.
Just average. Wine was good food was average. The apps were good. Completely dead on a Saturday night, that says enough.
Very good service and food, with a simple, delicious menu and a new manager who cares. Welcome back, Louie's!
Although the salmon on toast I ordered was not as flavorful as I would have liked the rest of my experience made up for it. Would definitely like to return.
A wonderful spot with a great wine selection, good food, and seasonally changing specials.
As always , the food was pretty good. The service a tad slow and a little to infrequent. Have definitely had better service. Love the location and will definitely visit again.
The confeit chicken wings and beignets were great starters !
First time at Louie’s. It was amazing! Great service, drinks, an charcuterie. Will definitely come back on our next visit to Lexington.
We were served a raw biscuit, had very slow service, and this was the second time in a row we received something undercooked. Last time was raw beignets. Last visit for us on giving them a try. We want to enjoy them, as it’s a convenient and nice place - they unfortunately mess something up on every visit for us.
Menu is good, but food flavor fell a little short. One entree we had which was the chicken was undercooked. Good wine list but way overpriced by the glass.
Louie’s is a favorite of ours. This time, our main server was absolutely awful. He was put out that I asked him to stand next to me once when I ordered the table’s appetizers and again with my dinner. He wanted me to yell it across the table?! We were a larger party on a Saturday night, and we had two women in their 70’s who needed some care and attention. He had no interest and even forgot my mother’s drink. The other wait staff was great, as expected. Our main guy was a dud.
Celebrated a friends 60th Birthday here. Food was good and our waiter was very attentive.
Came to this restaurant during burger week and had the best burger and Brussels sprouts (they were caramelized and crispy and delicious). Our service was slow but we figured burger week was why. Thought we’d give it a shot for dinner. We were seated quickly in a fairly empty restaurant. It took eons for our server to acknowledge us. Service throughout the entire meal was painstakingly slow, as though no one was concerned whether we were there or not. Server was friendly but nothing should take this long.
I ordered those same Brussels sprouts, but this time they were limp and watery. I had an Emily salad devoid of flavor. We also had the million dollar chicken which lacked seasoning and the garlic it should have come with. Also a citrus pork chop that was straight up lemon juice with no other seasoning, with potatoes that were supposed to be garlic smashed that were in actuality fingerling potatoes drenched in vinegar. Not sure what has happened to quality at this restaurant, but I wouldn’t go back.
