Louie's by the Bay
Very nice restaurant. The food was excellent and the furnishings warm and inviting. Our waiter was especially attentive and because it was a birthday dinner, they added an extra level of care that was appreciated by our visiting guests.
We went for brunch. Very limited selection of food which was served lukewarm at best and the fish was not fresh.
I did like the restaurant and the staff and management were very kind, but it somehow missed the mark. We went for brunch and it was Mother's Day, however they were not busy, they had open tables and there was no one on line waiting for a seat. I thought the food was OK, nothing exceptional, but good. The drink list was great, nice traditional Italian Cafe favorites. The food took a long time and the manager did apologize, My wife had "eggs in purgatory", which had a ton of sauce and no bread, bread is part of it. My Eggs Benedict were nothing special, but good. Primarily, we saw a lot of our waiter hanging out at the bar, addressing a table next to ours, several times and then darting away. A simple "is everything ok?" would have been lovely. Even our empty glasses didn't seem to provide a clue.
I loved the interior, the seating was a little crowded. I don't think I'll be back, and if I do return, I'll sit at the bar.
Louie's By The Bay is a great addition to Newport. The interior is very well done and the food does not disappoint.
Really impressed - saw some mixed reviews, but for us, everything was quite good - very fresh food (Stuffed calamari, Branzino, Ravioli, Chicken Parm, Gelato all were quite good), quality drinks, solid service. Nice atmosphere, whether in the main dining room or in the bar area. Only possible minor quibble is that the food seemed to come out almost too promptly - no time to linger between dishes, but overall an outstanding dining experience. We look forward to returning.
Beautiful decor and waterfront views. Pierro is the ultimate host. A nice selection of wines and quality steaks, seafood and pasta dishes.
Requested window seat with reservation and again from server. Was told larger window seats were reserved for larger parties. Meanwhile a window seat was available at that time and not filled until near the time that our meal was finished. Also the remaining window seat set for four was given to a party of two.
Greet food and service. The owner was there and was very attentive.
Beautiful restaurant...breath-taking as you walk in through the entry. Our main concern was the service. Took too long to get menu and to order and an equally long time to get the check. Food was excellent.
This was our third visit to Louie's and we have enjoyed each experience. I'm in love with the warm ambiance, the very personalized greeting(s) from the hostess and the owner during dinner. Unusual in Newport to find a nice restaurant that you can actually enjoy a conversation with your friends!
I only have one complaint... On my first visit I experienced their mushroom soup, it was marvelous unfortunately they do not have it as a regular menu item. I keep coming back hoping it's a special but have not hit the correct evening to once again enjoy this magnificent soup.
Salt + Pepper = Basic seasoning
This is a formula that the individual running the kitchen at Louie's simply cannot comprehend.
Crudo of Hamachi, Salmon,...........flavorless. How did this get on the menu of what appears to be an Italian Restaurant?
Next,.....Risotto,...flavorless,.....zero seasoning,.......and I mean zero.
Grand finale,.......Lasagna,....which was gross. Totally gummy,....obviously made the day before,.......very very little tomato sauce. Menu said it had meat sauce,......no way. Gummy gummy gross.
The people that work here are super kind. Super good energy,....but being kind with good energy cannot save bad food.
If this joint pulled a kid out of a culinary school,...they could do a better job than what is happening in this disaster of a kitchen.
I had the osso bucco and it was fabulous
The filet and veal chop was served all alone on a large plate-just a little veal chop sitting there all alone 😳
Just a piece of meat. I thought it could have had a few veggies or dollop of rice. We ordered salad which was good
My husband told me we were charged for the bread basket. I still don’t believe him. Nice evening, but will not be going back.
First time there. Won’t be the last. While the kitchen needs to debug, all in all it’s a welcome addition to the OC dining scene.
Louie’s is a nice place, service was good, food was above average. Pricing a bit steep.
With 6 people eating bill was $400 plus.
Felt like we were “Nickle and dimed.” Charged a split salad fee which was 1/3 of the cost, charged $60 for corkage of one bottle (magnum) and $4 for extra Marinara.
After the meal I politely talked with the owner and voiced my displeasure. He said should have called him over and he would have taken off the $4! Told him I’m not the type to do that and said he’s missing the point-should have not been charged in the first place. That was it.
I really didn’t expect anything more, as this was the same owner that opened a $500 bottle of wine the last time I was in and dropped it/losing about a glassful of wine on the floor and on my guest’s suit. He “graciously “ offered to only charge 1/2 corkage fee. Don’t know why I went back. Probably because the staff, as opposed to ownership, is so very nice and the food is good.
Torn as to whether I’ll return.
Btw I’m not a complainer-this is my first review in 72 years!
Wonderful first experience. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. The Menu offers variety without offering too much. Food was great, and serving sizes were just right. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, and so did everyone else based on what we saw at other tables. Looking forward to arriving and leaving by boat at some point in the near future, as the sun is setting.
Louie's is our favorite reasons for all the above reasons. We have been there a dozen times (at least), & have invited family & friends & now they all love it too. Ben is a great sever & your bartenders are SO nice. Great food, atmosphere, service. Louie's is a 10! Thank you!!
Way too loud, my husband enjoyed his food, but I had eggplant that cost $24 and it was horrible! Cold and tasted like they had just opened a can of tomato soup and poured it over it! Very expensive for what you get. We felt very rushed in the beginning and asked if we could slow down and enjoy our champagne toast for our anniversary, our waiter was nice and said of course. However, they must have left our already cooked food under the lights for 30 minutes. Usually you get a small special occasion dessert, but not here. All in all I was super sad we chose this place to celebrate our anniversary. I would not go back.
Absolutely beautiful remodel! The wine was amazing and the service was impeccable! I highly recommend Louie's! I look forward to going back.
Took 30 min to get drink Restaraunt was dead
Scheduled to close at 10 but we were informed at 8 that it was last call
For Easter we thought we’d go out and try something new. Louie’s has a spectacular view on the waterfront and it was a gorgeous SoCal day. The restaurant staff were quite nice. The brunch menu was very limited. The food preparation was very poor: poorly cooked (toast and bacon were burned, potatoes were over cooked and soggy), poorly seasoned (fries undercooked and pasta were unsalted), poorly balanced (e.g.,too much sauce on the burger, not enough meat in the pasta dish), poorly portioned (Rigatoni felt like an appetizer, the burger was not cooked as ordered. It was soaking wet and very messy. The French toast was tough and the inside was cold. I think Louie’s has a lot of work to do. I expected more from a restaurant company that’s been in business for nearly a century. I’m hoping by letting them know they will make some improvements. We are very reluctant to try them again but maybe they are still working out the kinks for a new place.
Later today we shared our experience with others in how disappointing this new restaurant was and suggested them to not to go there.
We dine out frequently and this is our first written complaint. Very disappointing.
Not a good place for customer service, management was not very customer focused.
I expect more of a fine dining restaurant. The food is at best pedestrian and at worst lacks creativity by the chef. The bread is a prime example--while seeming to be olive or some kind of Mediterranean it is more like Wonder white bread in texture and composition. Too bad--great setting and possibilities but it does not deliver.
Quality and ambiance that NB hasn't had present in years
Good first visit. Great recommendation by our waiter. We will return.
Beautiful setting with wonderful appetizers and dinner menu. Very personable and efficient staff. The owners are onsite to greet their guests as if it were their home. Very comfortable and welcoming feeling
We enjoyed Billie and loved Pierro. They really know their culinary and wines.
Booked a table for my anniversary. Was really looking forward to dining at Louie's , based on the buzz. Was asked at the time I made rez if it was a special occasion, which it was, yet no one mentioned it at the restaurant. Odd. The service was a bit rushed. Our appetizer, the burrata and Parma was not good. The burrata was rubbery and had no flavor. Our pasta in pesto sauce and NY Strip steak were pretty good.
I do not give poor restaurant reviews, Louie's was a disappointment.
Dinner was awesome Saturday night. Dessert Panna Cotta was the only thing marginal. Everything else great.
Beautiful restaurant with views of the harbor. Very fun atmosphere and bar scene. Highly recommend trying one of its signature cocktails. Decent wine list. The food was delicious and prepared healthy. I look forward to eating dinner again there soon.
As usual, the entire evening was great! Service, atmosphere, wine and food were superb? One of our favorite restaurants. Piero and Ron makes sure everyone feels welcome.
The Roast Chicken was unbelievable.
A wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was delectable, excellent friendly service and a beautiful atmosphere. What more can you ask for? ;-)
The whole experience was so amazing!
Thanks for making this an extra special birthday for my friend. We were a table for 7 and were seated at the round table. Perfect for all of us being able to converse! Lon was an amazing server and Piero even walked everyone to our table. Although I've been here before, it was a first time for the other 6 ladies. They all loved everything about Louie's! You have some new customers now who can't wait to come back! So glad that we have a nice waterfront restaurant that serves consistently great food and provides consistently great service! Very attentive staff!
We were referred to Louie’s by our neighbors who knew Piero. Beautiful interior, casual yet elegant, right on the water by the boat docks. Our 4 dishes were linguine with clams, vegetable risotto, veal chop, and sea bass - each one was excellent. Wines by the glass were very good. Wish we could have tried the Louie Salad with lobster but it was not available that night. We will definitely go back the next time we are visiting Newport Beach since all of the staff made us feel so welcome. And, Piero was gracious enough to stop by our table to meet us even though the restaurant was very busy. Thanks for the tiramisu, Piero, it was delicious!
Great place for brunch! Food, ambiance and view are great! Highly recommend!
Had 8:15 reservations on a Sat night. The entire Bar was marked reserved which is odd because you can't just go and have drinks unless you sit at the bar. Its very noisy with bad acoustics so having a nice quiet dinner isn't an option. Food and wine prices are sky high compared to other places that I frequent such as: Banderas, Gulfstream, and Maesto.
One and done for me Thank you
Service was horrible .
Service was lacking. Food tasteless. Crowd was not to our liking
Last time we went to this location it was the Ritz - went once and never went back. Now Louie's is in this location and it is truly a great restaurant!! Re-done interior is warm and cozy plus view of the bay is outstanding. Server (Billy) was excellent, food was done exactly as ordered. Would highly recommend Louie's!
