Local Union 271
First time at Local Union 271 and definitely enjoyed myself. Our server was great, and I appreciated her constant smile. Food was good, too. I had the turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich with country style potatoes. I should’ve listened to our waitress in choosing Tomato Soup to go along with my sandwich but I had to have my potato fix. My lunch partner chose a began option which she absolutely enjoyed. Beverages were also good; Wildcide cider and the DG Mexican lager.
Ambiance was great and the restaurant not crowded at all. I’ll definitely visit again.
Very attentive staff;
Overall great experience
We were excited to try this place because the menu looked great, however the food quality was very poor. Curry sauce was thin and not at all well balanced. Beyond Meat tacos were dry and not flavorful, Ahi tacos were also not flavorful. Service was not attentive. Restaurant was cold and noisy. I would not go back.
I was on the road, traveling from work and decided to stop for dinner since it had gotten so late. Despite the candlelit romantic type atmosphere, it appeared to be mostly coworkers that had just gotten off work having dinner together. I sat at a big, high top shared table with a group of tech guys that mostly talked about work. I had the salmon, which was good, and a side of brussel sprouts which were pretty good. Nothing super impressive, but a tasty meal that was better than I could do myself. It was a bit expensive for a single person having dinner, but probably better for shared dishes in a group.
We have only come for brunch, but have had 3/3 great experiences. It has been very very busy on two occasions, and once pretty empty (they were all Sunday brunch times so not sure what the difference was). Always happy with the food, drinks (thank you for having actual options for non alcohol preferences!) and service.
Made a reservation but have to share table with others. The server kept trying to take plates away. Food is ok, but Not a place for quiet dinner.
So far this is one of the poorest menu I’ve seen. Came here on Saturday, 4:30 pm. The entree menu doesn’t give much choice. Ended up asking for a burger. The worst burger experience in my life. Also, the ingredients is supposed to be organic but the ketchup on the table is not organic. So, what’s the point? If you offer me one year FREE lunch/dinner in this place, I would reply, no thanks! I’m good! Bad quality and limit poor choices I rather eat healthy and delicious food at home.
We went for Valentine's Day. Started with roasted little peppers and chorizo - delicious. Then I had NZ Salmon. With roasted endives. My husband had pasta. We had brussel sprouts which were fine - I could have had them a little less charred - but that's the trend and comparable with other restaurants that do them like that. Unfortunately, the dessert we wanted was sold out. However, the cheesecake was a real treat. My husband had a delicious blood orange tart with ice cream. I really enjoyed the Burrberry gin-based cocktail and my husband enjoyed a glass of wine. The music was ideal for the venue and put us in a good mood for Valentine 's Day. Receiving a single rose reminded me of Chantilly's so wonderful. The tall candle made the atmosphere quite romantic. We really enjoyed our evening from the friendly welcome at the door to the waiter who remembered our dishes without writing anything down. Details matter and the attention to them made it a great choice for Valentine's Day.
Not what was advertised at all!
Food is excellent. Communication with the restaurant is HORRIBLE. I emailed several times to make a reservation for 14 people and no one ever got back to me. I called the restaurant directly and was told I needed to email to make a reservation for such a large party. I explained that I did email 3x. The person who answered took my name and phone number however no one called back. I then booked 2 tables of 7 on Open Table which the restaurant cancelled the day before the reservation. I rebooked my 2 tables of 7 via Open Table and thankfully they did not cancel. They day of the reservation I received a phone call from the restaurant confirming my party of 14 for that night. Again, I had to explain no one ever called or emailed me back about the party of 14 so I booked 2 tables of 7 instead. What a poor way to run a business - it is so frustrating and they make it so hard to be a customer. The crazy thing was - the restaurant was not that busy that night. There were several open tables.
I had the opportunity to dine here two days in a row. The first was through a search on open table/yelp, the second was by choice after a good experience. The ambience is great. It’s well done with actual candlelight, good for conversation, but also relaxed in a way that keeps people comfortable. The food is local and well prepared. The staff is friendly, helpful and attentive. I would recommend Local Union 271 to anyone who would like to eat in downtown Palo Alto.
GREAT vegan and non vegan options and non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks!
My S.O. and I were very disappointed with our date night experience. We were ‘greeted’ at the door by the host, who handed us menus and told us to find our own seats. We were taken aback, but found a table as the restaurant was nearing the end of its reservations for the night (a little after 9). We ordered an app, entrees, and a side, and while we hoped the food would exceed the initial impression, every single dish was bland. Not one dish was worth the price. We were also happy we didn’t come at the peak of dinner service as most two-top tables are about 6 inches apart. Sad to say, we won’t be returning for the food.
One of my favorite in Palo Alto. Food is consistently great and the service is amazing. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food choices are creative and they appear to use local ingredients.
Lively atmosphere, candlelit tables, and good selection of menu items. Had lunch here previously and wanted to try it for dinner. Place was packed, busy, and a bit loud. Food was okay and service was nearly nonexistent. A good spot for lunch, not so hot for dinner...
We have been to Local Union 271 four times and to be honest this will be our last time. The ambiance is great, bar is good and service decent. However the food it very average given the location and price point they seriously need to up their game. We keep hoping it would improve but no need to visit again.
Nice, artichoke was yummy
what a great find!!! OUTSTANDING service. Great food.
The food was excellent, but the service was marginal. It started with us waiting for a waiter/waitress to come to our table. There was a man who might have been a manager or someone in charge who happened to be standing near our table. We asked who our waiter was and he was a bit snippy in his answer. He asked us, You want to order or something? Someone will be here. And he walked over to some of his staff but no one came over for awhile. Once our server came over, she was nice and all. Our food came out in good time, but if we wanted more water or anything else, it was hard to get someone's attention. Good thing the food is good, but they need to do something about their service. If they do this will be a top notch restaurant.
The people we were with have been here 2 different times. They also had terrible service both times. Theirs was during lunch service.
Come here for cocktails and the ambience. The food, at least at dinner, left more to be desired.
Attentive service and tasty, well-presented brunch faves (Avocado toast, eggs Benedict, omelet) in a light airy setting made it a great place for our friends’ brunch!
Service was extremely slow
Everything was under seasoned.
Food is okay but nothing extraordinary. We wanted to switch some sides but the server does not allow it. Very disappointing. There a lot of good restaurants in the area and this may not be my first choice due to limited options.
Great vibe. Great food. Greg clientele.
This is not the place for a romantic dinner. It's very noisy and very crowded. any conversations is a challenge. You have to speak very loudly. Great for a group or quick dinner date. Definitely felt like they were rushing to serve dinner to turn the table over for the next party. The food was delicious. We started with the avocado toast and the artichoke. We weren't even half done when the entree was served. The entree serving was small. We ordered the chicken and the cream sauce was delicious but far from creamy, very watery. The chicken was extremely moist and delicious. We added a side order of the brussel sprouts which were well cooked but bland. We used the left over garlic aioli from the artichokes to flavor the sprouts. For dessert we had bread pudding and there was almost no caramel sauce on it. It could have done with more caramel sauce. The staff was very attentive. The drinks were good. Parking in Palo Alto is always a challenge so plan enough time.
We celebrated my birthday at Local Union 271 on a Sunday evening. The restaurant had wonderful ambiance, service, drinks (!!), and the meal portions were very generous. I love that they source locally and support the farmers and Bay area producers. We will be back for certain!
Food is good. Tables feel right on top of each other. Been there twice, had two different tables, table was a little wobbly each time. We split a bunch of things. I highly recommend the artichoke and the burger. Was a little disappointed by the chicken tacos. Might return, but would want a table in the back or side of the restaurant rather than in the front.
An excellent menu that offers many interesting choices. I had a tuna melt, which is one of my favorite sandwiches, and a beet salad. Both were delicious.
The food was really mediocre. Was disappointed since I thought it would be good. The Brussels sprouts were so bitter and over salted, the chicken was rubbery and over salted and the beets tasted like nothing. Was pretty disappointed. It’s also pretty loud and tables were super close to each other.
I like this place and the menu changes regularly. Their website menu isn't what's offered though. I had the bucatini and it was okay. There are some other dishes I like better. Service was good. They finally added some vegan tacos to their menu. I'm waiting for the menu to change as I went there for the peas ravioli.
The burger was highly recommended, and I ordered it medium rare. However, instead of a single, thicker patty, 2 thin patties were used. It's essentially impossible to cook thin patties medium rare, and I should have been so informed. The side soup and my colleague's side-salad were both good, and the ambiance quite pleasant. Perhaps I should have ordered something different
I've been to Local Union 271 before and had great experiences both times. The food portions of the entrees were very small this time, which was the most disappointing part of our experience. Service and drinks were great, but we left hungry and wanting more. I may come back another time to give this place another chance.
Very chic casual atmosphere with great local fresh food. We went for drinks and a little bite and had the charred peppers and chorizo and the tuna sushi grade nachos - both were excellent and half price drinks . We will go again for dinner.
this is a really expensive menu for what you get. No fries with the $20 burgers.
I feel like the quality of the food is starting to suffer. It's unfortunate because it's a cool restaurant. Our food was only so-so and relatively uninspired. In addition, unfortunately, one of our entrees showed up way late (like after the rest of us were nearly finished eating). To their credit though, they apologized profusely and removed that meal from the bill. Hoping the quality picks back up. I want to love it.
The chicken tacos were so salty we couldn’t eat them.
Salmon was $36 and for that price we expected a bigger portion. The salmon was very small portion and came with no sides. Only the appetizers were good. The service was not consistent.
We will not return.
The food was good, but not great. The restaurant has a nice vibe, but what really let us down was the service. Our server would cruise by every once in a while, but without any real interest in how our meal was going or what we might need. Perhaps it was an off night. Would consider giving it another try...
The tables are ridiculously close together. Wine was oddly served in large carafes when a glass was ordered. The wine glasses were oddly shaped and difficult to drink from. We drank our water so we could empty the next carafe into water glasses to drink from. My niece is a grad student at Stanford. She thought it was an unusual place too. Too many better choices in Palo Alto.
Excellent food and ambiance.
