   I booked this restaurant for 21 December, 6pm through Opentable. When I arrived there with my family for my sister's birthday, the place was completely shut. It was so disappointingly not to havr been told in advance. Opentable needs to take this restaurant off its books immediately.

   We booked a table weeks in advance for Diwali celebrations, we turned up on time and the restaurant was closed. We even received a reminder from OpenTable the day in advance asking to confirm if we were going and we said yes. There was no information on the restaurant door explaining why it was closed. Whilst we were standing in front of the restaurant reading our emails to double check, another group of family arrived looking equally confused as they had a reservation, too. We were left stranded, we had to go looking for another restaurant at 7.30pm on a Friday night in Covent Garden, Little Kolkata truly ruined our Diwali celebrations. Our advise - dont bother!

   They called us on the day to cancel this booking as they had a problem with the gas. I’ve not seen it open since so I don’t know if they’re permanently closed now?!

   We went with the Time Out offer so at £16.95 we found the food delicious and did not mind that the staff were lost, untrained, confused and food has not arrived for a while. We paid for thali, there were no thali dishes to serve it in. There were no prawns. Barman did not show up for work, so no drinks other than wine. Overall a confused mess. These guys should either sort it out or not run a restaurant. Which is a shame as food is lovely (but not at full prices).

   Food was really tasty... however, the dishes were overpriced for the portion sizes. Service really wasn’t great, but it wasn’t awful. When we arrived, the waitress didn’t seem to know we had a booking but it wasn’t busy and we picked our table - fine, but first impressions were that the staff weren’t on the ball. I’m not sure if the wait staff were trained well/know how to be actual wait staff because after we gave our orders they didn’t come back (I’ve worked as a waitress so I don’t think I’m being harsh). I had to stand up and walk up to them when we wanted more drinks/wanted our bill. They seemed like nice people but I think the restaurant owners need to give them more guidance on what to do. Restaurant has a shabby vibe inside, as if you’re in a genuine casual food place in india but it just felt shabby and not shabby-chic/shabby for ‘effect’. Poor ventilation, I was sweating during the meal and this was a rainy autumn evening. Also a couple dishes and few of the drinks on the menus were unavailable, this was a Friday evening but also the restaurant wasn’t that busy so I was just wondering why they didn’t stock up. Menus were also a bit tatty/dirty/had writing on them which just added to the shabby-shabby and not shabby-chic vibe. All in all, for the money we spent, I’d recommend going to one of the more higher end indian restaurants in the area such as Kricket/Tamarind Kitchen etc. This restaurant has lots of potential but definitely needs some refinement. When you’re spending money in central London it’s not just the food that’s important but the overall experience - service, atmosphere, value for money. Whilst I expected a casual meal, this experience is something I’d expect in Zone 6 London for around £15 pp and not £30 that we paid. I’d maybe come back for a light bite at lunch but probably nothing else when there are better options in the area.

   Fairly good food but very poor service - just seemed not to have any training (first rush to order, then no further service until we went to find the desert menus ourselves, very limited ability to make recommendations etc) - and to top it off, the card machine was broken ...

   It was a mixed bag. I'd been before and had an excellent meal but on the Saturday night I came back we'd booked a table but it took 30mins to get served. Half the dishes we asked for weren't available, though the ones we were served were nice. We got charged for something we didn't have, I was told I'd get an email about a refund for that item but nothing as yet! The staff were doing their best but seemed inexperienced and overworked. The portions have got smaller since my last visit too which is a shame. Paneer kofta continues to be excellent.
